5 Defining Real Time Comm s A Broad definition: any kind of instant and immediate sharing of meaningful information among two or more endpoints. Meant to be consumed immediately Requires: low latency in the transmission of information, fast processing maximum integrity of its content. There are forms of Real-Time Communication that do not involve humans, such as those related to Energy Smart Grids 5

6 «Webification» of Communication Current definition of Real Time Communication by Wikipedia is already assuming it s WebRTC, with some wills : Real-time communication (RTC) is a new integrated communication medium based on the upcoming W3C standard WebRTC, making use of other components likehtml5/javascript, the ilbc audio codec, and the VP8 video codec. It is adopted by major browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera. It will permit computer users to exchange multimedia and audio content in real time. It will integrate as well gateways to telephony networks using the (VoIP) SIP protocol. 6

9 IoT and Real Time Communications: what synergies? WebRTC is the most disruptive technology the Telecom industry is dealing with it s a technology, NOT a solution or a service perse. However, it has the potential to become an integral component of many IoT applications. 9

10 The potential of WebRTC WebRTC enables real-time communications on the front end via just a browser and without having to download special client software. But WebRTC is also extremely useful in the creation of real-time applications. developers can build real-time communication into web pages, existing software applications, or even IoT environments and do so more easily and affordably than they could have in the past.
