1 Mastertech Diagnostic Software Quick Start Guide Installing the GM MDI Manager and Mastertech Diagnostic Software on your PC Note: You will need Adobe Flash Player version 9 or higher installed on the PC to run the Mastertech Diagnostic Software. Adobe Flash Player can be downloaded from the adobe website ( by selecting Get Adobe Flash Player. 1. Before installing any software on your PC, verify the GM MDI Manger software on your PC is at version or higher. To confirm GM MDI Manager version information, connect your MDI to the PC via USB cable, run the MDI Manager software and connect to the MDI. Once connected, select the Help tab. Defer Note: If the MDI Manager is not at version or higher, download and install the latest MDI Manager version located on the GM techline website then update your MDI to the latest version. 2. Download and Install the latest Mastertech Diagnostic Software (MDS) from the GM Dealer Equipment website ( 3. Select Download from the MDS page on the GM Dealer Equipment website. Follow instructions on the Mastertech Diagnostic Software (MDS) installation screens, selecting all of the default options. 7. After Mastertech Diagnostic Software (MDS) is installed on the PC, the next step is to update the Mastertech Diagnostic Software (MDS) on your MDI. Connect your MDI to the PC using the USB cable. Launch the MDI Manager by double-clicking on the GM MDI Manger Icon located on the desktop. 8. Click the Connect button from the MDI Explorer tab. A green check mark appears on the icon to indicate the MDI is connected. Note: If you have problems connecting to your MDI, refer to your GM MDI User s Guide for assistance. 9. 3 10. The Mastertech Diagnostic Software application is not installed on the MDI message will appear. Select OK to continue. 11. Select Mastertech Diagnostic Software version X.X.X then select the Start Update button. 12. Select OK from the GM MDI Manager Information dialog. 4 13. Wait while the MDI is updated. The Component and Total progress bars will indicate the status of the installation progress for each of the Mastertech Diagnostic Software components being updated. 14. When completed, a message will be displayed, as shown at right. Click OK and wait until you hear the Beep from the MDI before continuing. Suggested Tip: ETAS recommends that you physically mark the MDI that contains the Mastertech Diagnostic Software for quick and easy identification in the future. 15. To launch the Mastertech Diagnostic Software, double-click on the MDI icon in the MDI Explorer view. Note: The default browser will run and a license page will be displayed. 5 LICENSING YOUR SOFTWARE Free Trial License A trail license is available by calling by calling ETAS-INC ( ) for using the Mastertech Diagnostic Software. The trail license is valid for 30 days or 15 runs of the Mastertech Diagnostic Software. Follow the instructions below to request and activate your trail license: 1. Call the number above and request a trail license 2. You will need to provide the serial number of your MDI before a trail license can be generated. 3. A trail license key will be provided over the phone or ed to you. 4. Copy and Past or type in the trial license into the Enter License Key field and select the OK button. Purchase Permanent License To purchase a permanent software license, follow the steps below: 1. Call GM-Tools 2. Indicate that you want to purchase a license for the Mastertech Diagnostic Software. 3. After paying for the license, a license key will be generated and either provided over the phone or ed to you. 4. To activate your Mastertech Diagnostic Software license, copy and past the license key in the Enter License Key field and select the OK button.
