1 Paper 1: extended task Level 6 Your grammar, punctuation and vocabulary will be tested in a piece of extended writing. The focus for the task should be on the range of sentence structures and punctuation marks you use to control your writing. Spelling will not be assessed in this task. Try to use a wide range of ambitious vocabulary in your response. You will have 30 minutes for this task. Stop thief! You were walking home from school and you noticed a person loitering outside of the bank. Your attention was drawn to that person because you had never seen them before. They seemed to be anxious and slightly nervous. However, you continued on your way and reached home safely. The next morning you heard on the news that there had been a bank robbery in your very own town, in fact, at the bank you walk past every day on your way home from school. Your thoughts turned to the person you had seen acting suspiciously. You decide to go to the police with your information. Before you go, you decide to write a detailed description of the person that you saw and the way they were acting. The description must include: What the person looked like What drew your attention to the person Key details that might help the police trace them. Your task is to write a description of the person you saw. page 1

2 Paper 2: short answer questions Your grammar, vocabulary and punctuation will be tested in this task. You have 20 minutes to complete this task. Level 6 1 Insert a colon in the appropriate place in the sentence below. I enjoy lots of sports badminton rounders cricket (indoor) and netball. 2 Write a sentence containing a superlative adjective. Underline the superlative adjective in your sentence. 3 A semi-colon can be used to separate two main clauses that are related. Insert a semi-colon in the correct place in the sentence below. On the Saturday, it was sunny and warm we had great fun at the beach! 4 Put a tick in each row to show the type of adverb. 3 5 This sentence is made up of two clauses: a main clause (MC) and a subordinate clause (SC). SC The house, which stood at the top of the hill, was said to be haunted! MC Add a subordinate clause to the sentence below. The popular school,, was oversubscribed for yet another year. 6 Rewrite the sentence below, changing the verbs to the past tense. The children are travelling to the zoo so that they can see all of the animals. 7 A pair of commas can be used to separate words or groups of words and to clarify the meaning of a sentence. 7 Paper 3: spelling Your spelling will be tested in this task. Level 6 There are 15 spellings and you will hear each spelling 3 times. This section should take approximately 15 minutes to complete, although you will be allowed as much time as you need. N.B: The answer lines only are given below. You will need to ask someone to read the instructions and sentences out to you.
