This month's HoCoHRS Chapter Meeting is focused on changes in legislature that may affect how work gets done in your organization. It brings to my mind a quote from Tom Peters, "Excellent firms don't believe in excellence-only in constant improvement and constant change." As an HR practitioner, this is where you get to prove your strategic value for maximizing excellence in your organization-through your knowledge of changing employment mandates-internal and external: State and/or Federal. You know that it is your job to be up-to-date with best workplace practices and with changes in employment laws--both having impact on how work gets done in your organization or your clients' organizations. This is where HoCoHRS and SHRM can make your life easier by virtue of your memberships. You get to take advantage of on-line and in-person programs that can help you be the expert and go-to person in your organization when it comes to determining innovative approaches to engaging the workforce toward changing organization priorities. And this month, Melissa Hammock, Esq. will be presenting the Chapter's Annual Legislative Update on May 15. Our Next Meeting: May 15, 2014 Meeting Legislative Update Location: Ecker Business Training Center at Howard Community College (6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, MD 21046) **Note: we are back at our usual location this month.** Time: 8:00-10:30am This session will provide an update on legislative developments and significant court decisions, with practical advice and analysis regarding the implications for human resources professionals. Speaker: Melissa Hammock, Esq. Ms. Hammock is a member of the employment law group with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP. She focuses her practice in employment litigation and counseling. Her experience includes discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, wage-and-hour violations, and other employmentrelated matters. Ms. Hammock has successfully tried to verdict both jury and non-jury trials. In addition to litigation, Ms. Hammock is also experienced in employment compliance issues, including litigation avoidance strategies, matters of employee discipline, enforcement and implements of employment policies, and workplace investigations. Next, you will be taken to the Meeting Payment page. If you want to prepay for the meeting, use the pulldown menu to identify yourself as either a chapter member or non-member. If not, you can exit this scree and pay at the door; your preregistration will be recorded. 6. If you do want to prepay, click the "Buy Now" button to enter your payment information. Follow the prompts on the PayPal site. (Note: the "Buy Now" button will take you to the PayPal website.
