2 There is an ongoing debate on how to improve efficiency and effectiveness of biodiversity conservation of European farmlands. This discussion seems to be a big challenge as biodiversity conservation strongly depends on the existing landscape composition and the current shape of the EU Common Agricultural Policy. There is also a new debate on whether we need different approaches to conservation policy in Central/Eastern Europe, where extensively managed farmlands are among the most biodiverse ones. In this conference and workshop we want to widely discuss these issues with scientists, advisers, farmers, conservationists and policymakers and identify the ways the biodiversity conservation of European farmlands should go. 3 Call for Posters There is a possibility to contribute to the conference in the form of poster. Proposals of poster titles and their short abstracts of maximum 300 words should be submitted via Registration form: no later than 30 th of June The abstracts will be published in the form of Book of Abstracts before the Conference. Preferred research topics for poster presentations 1. Effects of different agricultural practices on biodiversity on farmland; 2. Landscape structure and biodiversity on farmland; 3. Climate change and farmland biodiversity; 4. New geoinformatics tools for biodiversity monitoring and assessment, indicators of biodiversity; 5. Ecosystem services and farmland biodiversity; 6. Biodiversity value of European farmland; 7. Biodiversity conservation policy and strategies. Official Language The conference and workshop will be held in English, no simultaneous translation will be provided. Costs There is no conference and workshop fee for participants. Organizers cover the costs of accommodation for all participants of the conference and workshop. 4 Conference Venue The Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation State Research Institute (IUNG-PIB) Street Czartoryskich 8, , Puławy, Puławy is a city situated in the western part of Lublin province, about 120 km from Warsaw, 50 km from Lublin. Puławy is a well-known industrial, scientific and cultural centre. Together with neighbouring Kazimierz Dolny, Janowiec and Nałęczow, Puławy is considered to be one of the most interesting touristic attraction in the Lublin region. Workshop Venue Hotel Zajazd Piastowski, Str. Słoneczna 3, Kazimierz Dolny, The Hotel is located in the heart of Kazimierski Landscape Park near the historical centre of Kazimierz Dolny and is surrounded by sunny hills, orchards and gardens.
