This year the organisational form of the Congress will be slightly changed due to the upcoming Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. Numerous international, high level events and intense competition for your attention resulted in a decision to merge the Congress with another, bigger event the European Forum for New Ideas. We invite you to join a very interesting debate on the recent crisis and economic evolution with Prof. Oliver E. Williamson, Nobel Prize winner in the field of economics, as well as other great panellists. The debate will focus on the evolution of economies and economic policies resulting from the recent crisis we will discuss how the experience of the past few years can influence the new economic order and re-define the role of the market and the state. Thanks to the new form your participation in the Congress will also mean taking part in a big, international event, and interacting with many distinguished business leaders, government and public administration representatives, scientists and artists, during 5 plenary sessions and 14 panel discussions. 4 Speakers Oliver E. Williamson 2009 Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics, USA Professor of the Graduate School and the Edgar F. Kaiser Professor Emeritus of Business, Economics, and Law at the University of California, Berkeley. Member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society. He has been awarded 12 honorary degrees. He has been a Fulbright Professor, a Guggenheim Fellow, a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, a Distinguished Senior U.S. Scientist, Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, and a John von Neumann Lecturer. He was awarded the 1988 Irwin Award for Scholarly Contributions to Management, the H. C. Recktenwald Prize in Economics for 2004, and was named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association in He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in He is the Honorary Founding Editor of the Journal of Law, Economics and Organization and is a past president of the Western Economic Association and the International Society for New Institutional Economics. He has published six books and over 140 articles. His book, The Economic Institutions of Capitalism: Firms, Markets, Relational Contracting, is said to be the most frequently cited work in social science research. Prof. dr hab. Jerzy Hausner Professor of economics, Faculty member of the Cracow University of Economics, Member of the Monetary Policy Council (since 2010) Prime Minister, Grzegorz Kołodko. Served as Deputy Prime Minister ( ), continued as the Government Plenipotentiary for Social Security Reform in Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz s government (1997), and Undersecretary of State, in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. Member of the Polish Parliament ( ). Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in the government of Leszek Miller ( ) and Marek Belka ( ). Served as Minister of Labour and Social Policy ( ), and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Labour and Social Policy (2003). From May 2004, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Labour. Author of the reform plan for public finances. Mirosław Kachniewski President, Polish Association of Listed Companies Responsible for managing the Association, regulatory initiatives and cooperation with SEG member companies. Earlier, he worked for the Commission of Securities and Exchanges ( ; spokesman and secretary) and the Ministry of Privatization ( ). Former faculty member of the International Finance Faculty at the Warsaw School of Economics ( ), holds a PhD in economics. Served many important functions in IOSCO. Former member of the Supervisory Council of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Author of numerous economic publications on capital markets, liberalization of capital flows and services, and integration of EU financial markets. A member of the governing bodies of EUROPEANISSUERS. From the mid 1990 s, served many important public and government functions. He led the team of advisors to the Deputy

He is a member of the Strategy Council which is the key global leadership body responsible for ratifying the strategy of PwC. His role includes working with the Global CEO to drive the firm s growth strategy in key emerging markets. He has been with PwC for over 24 years. Mike started his career in PwC in the USA. Prior to his appointment as CEO for Central and Eastern Europe, Mike had lead the firm s practice in Russia for 3 years and PwC Tax and Legal services in Russia before that. Mike spent 17 years in Russia serving clients in the energy and utilities sector. Mike was born in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Since 2008, he has been living in Prague, Czech Republic, with his wife and two daughters. Andrzej Lubowski Economist, writer, and commentator, Poland Polish-born, since 1982 residing in the United States, former banker, served on the boards of several American and European companies. Regularly contributes to main Polish newspapers on key economic and political developments, trends and interdependencies. Educated in Poland (SGH-Warsaw School of Economics and Warsaw University) as well as in the USA (Stanford, and the U.C.-Berkeley). The author of Kontuzjowane Mocarstwo ( The Injured Superpower ), a book on the strengths and weakness of the United States. Alan Mayhew Professor, Jean Monnet College of Europe and Sussex University, Member, International advisory panel to Polish Government for the preparation of the 2011 EU Presidency, United Kingdom An economist specialising in problems of economic transition and integration in Central and Eastern Europe as well as economic policy and budgetary issues in the European Union. As Jean Monnet Professor he runs the Wider Europe Research Programme ( and has wide practical experience in advising governments in the region. Tomasz Zadroga, President and CEO, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. Tomasz Zadroga has vast experience in business restructuring, strategic planning, and financial management. Served on boards of companies such as Inter Cars, IC Development & Finance, Adidas Polska, and as Financial Director of Papyrus-Stora Enso Polska and ABB Polska. He concurrently serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Polkomtel SA, the leading mobile telecom operator in Poland. Since 2008, he has been the President of the Polish Committee for Electrical Energy, organization of the power industry in Poland. In June 2011, he was appointed Vice President of EURELECTRIC, the most important and largest European energy organization, where he represents the interests of the Polish power industry.

Content Partner The National Depository for Securities (KDPW) is a central infrastructure institution responsible for the management and supervision of the depository, clearing and settlement system to enable the trading of financial instruments in Poland. As of 1 July 2011 KDPW has transfered its clearing functions for transactions executed in the regulated market and alternative trading system, as well as the management of clearing liquidity guarantee system to KDPW_CCP. KDPW_CCP performs the functions of a central counterparty (CCP) clearing house on the Polish market. Concurrently with the start of operations of KDPW_CCP, a new clearing guarantee system has been implemented. KDPW remains responsible for functions including the settlement of transactions (operations in depository accounts) and the operation of the central securities depository. The establishment of KDPW_CCP is one of the key projects crucial to the development of the Polish market under the KDPW Strategy

Thanks to its microclimate it is also a well known health resort. The Heroes of Monte Cassino street the main promenade of Sopot that leads all the way to the pier is famous in Poland and in Europe. On both of its sides one can find old apartments, galleries, pubs, cafeterias, etc. The longest pier in Europe is more than 511 meters long. It was built almost 100 years ago and is the most distinctive hallmark of the city. The sessions and panels will take place in the Sheraton Hotel conference centre and Grand Hotel facilities, which are both located right next to the pier. In addition, a special pavilion has been designed and built at the sea. Sheraton Hotel, Grand Hotel, and other high-standard hotels (such as the Resident, Haffner, Opera and Europa hotels) will be at our guests disposal. Accommodation is also available in Gdańsk (e.g. at Hilton and Dwór Oliwski hotels). Participants can register via Once registered, you can also book your hotel using the same website. Confirmation of participation will be sent after registration and payment are completed. Sopot is only 25 kilometres away from Gdańsk Lech Walesa Airport. The available routes include the biggest cities in Europe and the whole world just 1 hour from Warsaw, two hours from Franfurt am Main and Brussels, and not much longer from Paris or London. We have also arranged for special Warsaw-Gdańsk-Warsaw flights (28 September-1 October 2011) for our guests.
