1 Admin: Joe Lipari Preparing to Upload Panopto - Video Upload Instructions If you create a video using a cell phone, tablet or still camera with video capabilities, you will need to copy those files from the device to a computer with a USB cord. Most of these devices create.mp4 files. If you create a video using an editing program, we recommend exporting an.mp4 file. Click on the Windows Explorer folder to gain access to the device and your video file. Click on the source of your video file, i.e., iphone, Android, or SD Card. In this case, we are accessing an SD card called CANON (E:) Double click 101CANON to open the folder. Double click the DCIM folder to access the.mp4 video files. Drag the video to your desktop. Note: Most devices have a DCIM folder where the videos can be found.

2 Cell Phone Quality Settings When videos are recorded using a cell phone or a tablet, the default quality level is set to the maximum HD quality level and the file size can end up being quite large. This can create problems when uploading these massive.mp4 files into Panopto or other streaming video sites. Changing the settings from 1080p to 720p can cut the size of the video files in half and allow you to directly upload a video to Panopto without the need to convert the files. Video Conversion Tools If you can t change the high settings on your cell phone, the use of compression software, like Any Video Converter (AVC), reduces the size of files so they can easily be uploaded. Any video longer than 5 minutes should be converted. Please see the Convert and Compress Video Files using Any Video Converter Help Guides for Mac or PC to properly reduce the size of your video. Log in to Panopto In order to upload videos, you will need to log in to Panopto. Students and Professors accessing Panopto from a link within D2L o o Use Firefox or Chrome URL: Log in to D2L, navigate to your class content, open the Panopto Portal, and then click on the Panopto link. You will be automatically logged in. Professors and individuals with a Panopto account, URL: stkate.hosted.panopto.com o Log in with your Panopto credentials

3 PC Upload Instructions The D2L class will open and that class Folder is now available for upload. Note: Students can upload videos to Panopto, but they will only be allowed to upload to a sub-folder of their class that is indicated by the words [drop box]. The professor will need to set this up before you can upload. Students: Click on the class name. A drop down folder will reveal an arrow. Click the arrow to select the [Dropbox] folder. Click on the Create button. Select Upload video.

4 On a PC, open the folder with your video file. Drag and drop your video to the upload box. Note: Some smart phones will not allow you to drag and drop directly from the phone. This is why we recommend moving your video to the desktop before dragging and dropping into Panopto. Your video will start uploading. Caution: DO NOT CLOSE WINDOW WHILE UPLOADING

5 When uploading is finished, the following message will appear. To close the window, click on the X. Final step for uploading from both PC and Mac Return to the D2L/Panopto webpage and refresh the browser page. The video will encode into Panopto and when ready to view, the title will turn blue. Note: This process can take some time, so be patient. Uploading and processing can take twice as long as the length of the original video.

6 Mac Upload Instructions If you are using a Mac computer, uploading requires that you click on the Choose video or audio files box. This will open a finder window. Drag and drop doesn t work on Macs. On a Mac, select your video from the folder, and then click Open to start the upload your video will automatically start uploading. Caution: DO NOT CLOSE WINDOW WHILE UPLOADING When uploading is finished, the following message will tell you it s safe to close the window. To close the window, click on the X.
