4 Key applications This document describes the detail configuration in some of new features in NSA-220 PLUS. In final part, FAQ, you may also find more information in user guide or knowledge base in ZyXEL service portal. 1. Auto upload service ZyXEL NSA-220 PLUS provides users to automatically upload their pictures to Flickr website ( and video files to You Tube website ( Additionally, automatical FTP uploading is supported in NSA-220 PLUS. 1.1 Network topology The following network environment will be referred for the following auto upload scenarios. PC and NSA-220 PLUS connect to switch and access to internet through switch. 4

5 1.2 Auto-upload pictures to Flickr For sharing pictures in Flickr website ( ZyXEL NSA-220 supports automatically upload picture in given folder in NSA-220 PLUS. Configuration Procedure: Enable auto-upload in Flickr service. Configure the account Flickr account information. Link your NSA-220 with your Flickr account. Specify the folders which you want NSA-220 to automatically upload your pictures. Specify the grace period and other options in auto upload function. Move pictures to the folders you specify in previous step. Check the result in Flickr website. Check the system log in NSA-220 PLUS. First, log into the web GUI page in NSA-220 PLUS, go to \Auto Upload\Flickr/YouTube. Then, enable Flickr service as following figure. 5

6 After enabling the Flickr service, you will see two more icons in the same page. Press config icon to set more detail configuration. There will be several system notification to warn that you are going to link to Flickr website. In the meanwhile, please make sure you have Flickr account information. After configuring the account information, system will warn you that the connection to Flickr. In the following popup browser, you need to authorize the connection between your account and your NSA

7 The following figure shows that you agree this link after press OK button. After allowing the agreement in Flickr page, please also press the Get ready button in NSA-220 PLUS. 7

8 You also can check the service status in NSA-220 PLUS under Auto Upload/Flickr/YouTube In his case, we can see the storage status in your Fickr account. Afterwards, users need to set which folder(s) in your NSA-220 PLUS will be monitored and uploaded to Flickr website. In this example, we are going to set folder named as 2009_SpaceTraveling under public folder to be monitored and uploaded all the pictures to Flickr website. 8

9 In this example, we configure the grace period as two minutes. This means that NSA-220 PLUS will upload any new added pictures in the folder you specify after fifteen minutes since you press apply button. Please specify the given folder that NSA-220 PLU will watch and upload the pictures after applying configuration. PLEASE REMEMBER TO PRESS APPLY BUTTON. 9

10 Please remember to press APPLY button after specifying the given folder. NSA-220 PLUS will monitor any need added pictures in the folder you assigned after you press apply button. After fifteen minutes, NSA-220 PLUS will upload new added photos to Flickr website. IN this example, we can see one picture has been uploaded to Flcikr website. 10

11 Users also can check the system log in NSA-220 PLUS to see the status of auto-upload. In the following figure, we can see the picture is queued and uploaded to website. Tips: Please make sure you configure the setting first and then put the pictures in the folder(s) that NSA-220 PLUS will monitor. In other words, any existing pictures in the folder before you specify to monitor or before you apply the auto upload setting will not be uploaded. 1.3 Auto-upload video files to YouTube For sharing videos in YouTube website ( ZyXEL NSA-220 supports automatically upload videos in given folder in NSA-220 PLUS. Configuration Procedure: Preparing your gmail account. Link YouTube and gmail accounts Enable auto-upload in YouTube service Configure the account YouTube account information Link your NSA-220 with your YouTube account. 11

12 Specify the folders which you want NSA-220 to automatically upload your pictures. Specify the grace period and other options in auto upload function. Move video files to the folders you specify in previous step. Check the result in YouTube website Check the system log in NSA-220 PLUS. First, use your gmail account to login in YouTube website. In the meanwhile, please enable the auto upload service in YouTube in NSA-220 PLUS. 12

13 The following figure shows that the function of auto upload to YouTube is enabled. Afterwards, please set your gmail account after pressing the Config icon/ Tips: Users need to link his gmail and you tube account together. Please create gmail account first and then go to YouTube website to login by using gmail account. Here, uses need to specify which folder(s) will be monitored and uploaded to YouTube account. Additionally, users can assign the grace period time to begin the uploading and categorize the video files in YouTube. 13

14 Here, we assign the 2008_Formosa to be monitored by NSA-220 PLUS. PLEASE REMEMBER TO PRESS APPLY BUTTON. 14

15 In the following figure, we can see the detail configuration for auto upload in YouTube. Please notice that only the given file format will be uploaded to YouTube website. This includes 3gp, asf, asx, dif, dv, dl, fli, gl, mov, movie, mp4, mpe, mpeg, mpg, ogv, qt, wm, wmv, wmx, wvx. 15

16 In the following figure, we can see the status in YouTube, it shows that file is queued and ready to be uploaded to YouTube website after grace period time. In the following figure, we can see the status in YouTube, it shows that file is uploading to YouTube website now. 16

17 Also, users can check system log to see the detail status of auto upload. The following figure shows that one video file named as SAMPLE-DIAMOND.avi is uploaded to YouTube website. 17

18 1.4 Auto-upload files to FTP server(s) (FTP uploadr) For sharing files to given FTP site, ZyXEL NSA-220 supports automatically upload files in given folder in NSA-220 PLUS. Configuration Procedure: Enable auto-upload in FTP uploadr service Configure the FTP account information Specify the folders which you want NSA-220 to automatically upload your files Specify the grace period and other options in auto upload function. Move files to the folders you specify in previous step. Check the result in FTP server Check the system log in NSA-220 PLUS. First, enable the FTP Uploadr under application\auto Upload. 18

19 Next, please assign the FTP server information that users want to upload their files. Users also can press the Test connection to see if the FTP configuration is correct. Please remember to press apply button to activate your setting in FTP. 19

20 Here, users need to specify the monitored folder and grace period in FTP auto uploadr. In the following example, we can see the folder named as 2008_Formosa is assigned to be monitored by NSA-220 PLUS. 20

22 2. Power management NSA-220 PLUS provides users to do power management. To schedule the power on/off regularly, users can use this function to shut down and/or reboot their NSA-220 PLUS. 2.1 Power control schedule First, enable the Power Control Schedule in Maintenance\Power Management NSA-220 PLUS provides three actions, Power On, Power Off and Reboot, to assign in schedule list. In the following example, there are two schedules in the control schedule list. First rule is to set NSA-220 PLUS regularly power off on 23:00 every Fridays for future 52 weeks. The second rule is to set NSA-220 PLUS power on 00:00 every weekday. 22

23 Tips: NSA system will skip a schedule restart or power off if the execution time comes wile the NSA is doing the following actions: Re-synchronizing a RAID Upgrading firmware Replacing the configuration file NSA system will suspend a schedule restart or power off if the execution time comes wile the NSA is doing the following actions until they are finished. Backing up files Restoring files from a backup Taking a snapshot 2.2 Power resume NSA-220 PLUS provides an intelligent hardware monitor for power status. Users do not worry about if NSA-220 PLUS needs to be manually boot up after encountering power shortage or power failure Keep former status In this function, there are three options to be set in NSA-220 PLUS. The first one is Keep Former Status. In other words, NSA-220 PLUS will back to the status before power outage. For example, NSA-220 PLUS will keep power off if it is power off before power shortage. 23

24 2.2.2 Always Power On The second one is Always Power On NSA-220 PLUS will keep the status of «power on even it encounters power shortage. For example, NSA-220 PLUS will automatically power on if any power outage happens. Users can apply this option to make sure the service(s) in NSA-220 PLUS running Always power off The final one is Always Power Off. NSA-220 PLUS will keep the status of power off even it encounters power shortage. For example, NSA-220 PLUS will always keep power off if any power outage happens. 24

25 3. Network Service 3.1 PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) Traditionally, users need an extra modem to deploy in their home environment if they use DSL service. Now, NSA-220 PLUS provides PPPoE service to replace the extra modem. Hence, users do not need any extra DSL modem for NSA-220 to dial up and then connect to Internet. The benefit for users can save the cost of modem. PPPoE To enable this service, users also need to provide account information for NSA-220 PLUS to dial up and then can link to Internet after successfully dialing up. 25

26 4. Link Capture After installing the plug-in, link capture, in the Internet Explorer, users can right click on the link in the IE and then users will see the option of Send to NSA. Afterwards, NSA will download the content of URL. Users can find the utility in the CD to install the link capture in their Internet Explorer. 26

27 At the time of writing, ZyXEL NSA-220 PLUS supports link capture feature in both of IE and Firefox. After choosing the kind of browser you want to install the link capture, press the execution file to begin. After installing Link capture plug-in for IE, you can right-click on the link in the IE and choose NSA Setting to setup the IP of your NSA. 27

29 FAQ 1. What is RAID? RAID stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. It takes two or more hard disks to achieve greater levels of performance, reliability and/or larger volume of data size. 2. Which kind of RAID is supported in NSA-220 PLUS? NSA-220 PLUS support RAID 0 and RAID 1. Additionally, NSA-220 PLUS also supports JBOD. 3. What is the file system supported in NSA-220? The internal file system used in NSA-220 PLUS is ReiserFS. 4. What is the file system supported in NSA-220 PLUS? The internal file system used in NSA-220 PLUS is EXT3. NSA-220 PLUS also recognizes the file system for EXT3, EXT2, NTFS, FAT16, and FAT What kind of operating system implemented in NSA-220 PLUS? The operating system of NSA-220\NSA-220PLUS is Linux, Montavista. The kernel version is What is Jambo frame? Originally, the MTU size in Ethernet is 1518 bytes. However, this will be time consuming while users need transfer large volume of data. Hence, the bigger size 29

30 of frame exceeding 1518-byte per Ethernet packet is introduced. The Jambo frame size can be extended to 9000 byte but also depends on related network devices. 7. Does NSA-220\NSA-220 PLUS support Jambo frame? What is the benefit for using Jambo frame? Yes, NSA-220\NSA-220 PLUS support three kinds of Jambo frame, 4K, 8K and 9K. Once users activate Jambo frame setting in NSA-220\NSA-220 PLUS, then the transfer rate between NSA and another device will be faster than using normal traffic size (1518-byte). 8. Does the size of a Jambo frame automatically negotiate with NSA-220? Since there is no mechanism in negotiating the size of a Jambo frame, NSA-220 cannot dynamically change the size of the Jambo frame once a user sets the size to be 4K, 8k or 9K. In other words, it is possible to lose data if the sizes of the jambo frame supported are not the same in clients and NSA How does the file transfer by USB port in NSA-220? The file transfer is used at FTP mode once users attach their storage in USB port of NSA How does it work after pressing copy button in the front panel of NSA-220? When pressing the copy button, it will initiate the process copying from the one USB device which is last recognized by NSA220. In other words, users might link two USB storages in both of USB ports of NSA-220 at the same time. At this moment, if users press button "COPY", NSA-220 does not copy files into NSA-220 from both of USB devices together, but only from the USB storage which is the last one recognized by NSA

31 11. What is the difference between "Scan" and "Repair" on NSA-220 PLUS? "Scan" is a defragment tool on NSA-220, it is similar to the defragmentation tool on Windows PC. "Repair" is used to resynchronize a RAID. For example, when the status of a volume shows "Degraded", we have to replace the problem disk, and click "Repair" to resync the RAID. If the disk inserted is a new one with no data on it, the repair process will automatically start. 12. I do not want the Hard Disk idle time shutdown feature, how can I disable it? By default, NSA-220 PLUS will shutdown its hard disks after 3 minutes of idle time. Users cannot change this feature by settings. The value can be set from 0 to 300. When users set the idle time as 0, it means that hard disk will never be idle even there is no activity in hard disk for a long time. 13. Which kind of the media server does NSA-220 PLUS apply? The media server used in NSA-220 PLUS is Mediabolic. 14. Does NSA-220 PLUS support DLNA media server? NSA 220 PLUS support DLNA 1.5 compliance media server. 15. Which kind of video file formats are supported by NSA-220 PLUS? NSA-220 PLUS supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (MP@ML) (Audio:LPCM/MPEG Audio Layer 2/Dolby Digital), Windows Media Video 9, AVI 31

32 16. Which kind of audio file formats are supported by NSA-220 PLUS? NSA-220 PLUS support the following audio file formats: MP3, Windows Media Audio 9, WAV, LPCM (44.1kHz Stereo only), M3U Playlist 17. Which kind of image file formats are supported by NSA-220 PLUS? NSA-220 PLUS supports the following image file formats: JPEG, PNG, BMP. 18. What is the button in the front panel of NSA-220 PLUS? It is Copy/Sync Button. Users can use Copy/Sync button to copy or sync data from USB drive to NSA or from NSA to USB drive. By pressing Copy/Sync button shortly (without hearing any beep), it will copy data from public directory by default. There is a led to cooperate with Copy Button. When there is a external storage, this led will show green. When system is copying data from USB storage to internal storage, it will be blinking green. When the copy is complete, it will be back to green. It there is something wrong, it will show red, user can press copy/sync button shortly again to make it back to green. By pressing copy/sync button and hold until you hear a beep, NSA will execute Sync feature. User can use WebGUI to setup the setting of Copy/sync feature. 19. Will all files in the monitored folder(s) be uploaded to Flikcr? No, NSA-200 PLUS will monitor the file with the extension of gif, jpg, png and tif. 20. Will all files in the monitored folder(s) be uploaded to YouTube? No, NSA-220 PLUS will monitor the files with the extension of 3gp, asf, asx, avi, dif, dl, dv, fli, gl, mov, movie, mp4, mpe, mpeg, mpg, ogv, gt, wm, wmv, wmx, and wvx. 32

33 21. Does auto-upload function can be activated for Flickr and YouTube at the same time? Yes, there is no problem when users activate these two services together. 33
