Using Google Drive! Your Name

1 Google Drive: If you are not familiar with Google Drive, please take some time before the start of the course to try it out. You will be using Google Drive for most of the work in your program including turning in assignments. Google Drive is where you will find class notes, readings, assignments, and resources. address is already connected to Google Drive. There are two ways to sign in: Signing In Through Gmail: 1. Open 2. Login in 3. In the top right corner click on the square and click on the Google Drive icon (see image to the right) 4. Google Drive will open in a new window Through Google Drive: 1. Go to drive.google.com 2. Login in with address. (You will then be re-directed to the NAU login site). 3. Login in again 4. Now you can begin to use Google Drive Using Google Drive Move files into folders shared with you At the beginning of your program you will receive notifications that folders have been shared with you. The first will be a notification that the folder named 'CSTL General has been shared. This is where information for your courses will be kept. The second notification will be for a folder with your name on it. This is a private folder between you and the program instructors where you will keep course work and turn in assignments. All students in the program will have access to the CSTL General folder, only you will have access to your personal folder with your name on it. Once these folders have been shared with you, you will want to move them to into My Drive for easier access. Your Name

2 Here's how: 1. Click on Shared with Me in the left-hand sidebar. You'll see all the files and folders that have been shared with you. 2. Find the folders in question. 3. Click and drag each of them into "My Drive" in the left sidebar. Alternatively, check the box next to each folder, click the folder icon at the top of your Drive, and select "My Drive" to move those folders into My Drive. Now that you have moved these shared folders into My Drive, you can start to add files into those folders. Note: You may need to select the small arrow next to My Drive to see the list of folders. **You will want to do this for the CSTL General folder as well as your personal folder. Create a folder/document in Google Drive Once you have access to your personal folder, please create a folder for each class you are taking inside this folder. Please title them with the name of the class. Example: SCI 613, SCI 610, SCI 508. To create a folder or document in your Google Drive on the web, follow these steps: 1. Click the red Create button at the top left of your Google Drive. 2. Select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu. (Folder, Document, Presentation, etc.) 3. Enter a folder/document name into the text box and click OK. 4. The folder/document will be created, and you can find it in the folder it was created in. If you have Google Drive installed on your desktop, the new folder or document will sync automatically to the Google Drive folder on your computer. (See Install Google Drive on your computer at the bottom of page for instructions) Delete a folder/document from Google Drive To delete a folder or document, go to My Drive and follow these steps: 1. Check the box next to the folder/document you would like to delete. 2. Click the Trash icon. 3. The folder/document will be moved to Trash, all items in a folder will also be moved to Trash. If you've chosen to sync all items in My Drive, the folder will also be moved to your computer's trash bin. Move a folder within another folder 1. Select a folder in Google Drive on the web and click the Organize icon 2. Select the folder(s) that you'd like to place the folder in.

3 3. Click Move to complete changes. Tips for using folders Share a folder or file so you and others can work on files together. When viewing the folder/file, simply click the share button to give access to the files within your folder to collaborators by typing the person s name or address. Once a collaborator has been given access their icon appears as a circle and will show up to the left of the share button. Seeing people in the file you don t recognize? Users with "Can edit" access can grant access to additional users and you can track activity of the folder to see exactly who has access. **When you sync a folder to the Google Drive folder on your computer, changes made to a folder online will be reflected on your computer and vice versa. If you remove a file from a shared folder, collaborators with access to the folder but not the individual file will no longer be able to see the item in their Google Drive. Install Google Drive on your computer If you would like to, you can install Google Drive for your desktop (Mac or PC) as soon as you have access to Google Drive on the web. Installing Google Drive to your desktop will allow you to access most files (Word, Excel, PowerPoints, and pdf s) without an internet connection (documents created in Google Drive cannot be modified without an internet connection). Windows: 1. Go to 2. Click Connect Drive to your desktop below the list of Drive views on the left side of the screen. 3. Click Download Google Drive for your PC. 4. Open googledrivesync.exe to automatically install and start Google Drive on your PC. (You may receive a warning that Google Drive is an application downloaded from the Internet. Click the Open button.) 5. Enter your Google Account username and password in the window that opens. This will be the account associated with Google Drive for your PC. 6. Complete the installation package instructions. 7. Launch Google Drive for your PC from the Start menu. Drag files and folders into your Google Drive folder to begin syncing items to My Drive (part of Google Drive on the web).

4 If you re having trouble signing into Google Drive on your PC, make sure that both cookies and Javascript are enabled in Internet Explorer and that the URLs that Drive for PC/Mac depends upon are listed as Trusted Sites in your IE settings. Mac: 1. Go to 2. Click the Download Google Drive for your Mac button. 3. Open installgoogledrive.dmg. 4. Open the installation file and drag the Google Drive icon to your Applications folder. 5. Open Google Drive from your Applications folder. (You may receive a warning that Google Drive is an application downloaded from the Internet. Click the Open button.) 6. Enter your Google Account username and password in the window that opens. This will be the account associated with Google Drive for your Mac. 7. Complete the installation package instructions. 8. Launch Google Drive for your Mac from the toolbar. Drag files and folders into your Google Drive folder to begin syncing items to My Drive (part of Google Drive on the web) Video files in Google Drive You can upload, sync, and even play videos in your online Google Drive. Google Drive gives you control over all of your file types in a single place, including video files. The videos appear as YouTube style videos although they remain private. With Google Drive, you can: Sync or upload video files up to 10GB in size Sync or upload video files in the following formats: WebM files (Vp8 video codec; Vorbis Audio codec).mpeg4, 3GPP and MOV files - (h264 and mpeg4 video codecs; AAC audio codec).avi (MJPEG video codec; PCM audio).mpegps (MPEG2 video codec; MP2 audio).wmv.flv (Adobe - FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio) View all of your videos at a glance Share videos with other people without ever having to use an attachment Add caption tracks to your video files. Tips and notes Sync or upload your video in the original format and in the highest quality possible. The maximum resolution for playback is 1920x1080.

5 Audio and video lengths should be the same, audio and video should start and end at the same time. Preview and play a video All of your uploaded videos can be found when you search Google Drive for Videos using the drop-down arrow in the search box. Click a file name to open and play the video using the Google Drive video player. Or, you can watch a video preview in the preview pane. When you open a video, you'll also see additional information about the file: Owner Sharing settings When the file was synced or uploaded Download previous versions of the file (you can t view these versions in the video player).
