1 August 13, 2012 SHALE PRODUCERS IN U.S. TOP 35,000 WELLS, 23 TCF GAS & 682 MMBO The Powell Shale Digest was requested by one of the largest shale operating companies in the U.S. to answer a request from a newspaper in Paris, France. They desired to know the number of shale gas and oil producers in the United States. We estimated 40,000 wells. Our final research numbers were 35,996 producers, 22,970,801,142 MCF gas + 682,073,803 BO/BC. 2 POWELL SHALE DIGEST HOSTS INTERNATIONAL JOURNALISTS The Office of International Visitors, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State invited 24 journalists from newspaper, industry periodicals and/or television to the United States under the International Visitor (IV) Leadership Program. They were sent to different cities as three teams. Team A is comprised of eight journalists and one English Language Officer (ELO) for the U.S. State Department which came to the Fort Worth/Dallas area August 11 August 15, These are journalists that specialize in oil & gas, economics and all speak English. The program for Team A in the DFW area centered shale development in America. It was planned by Gene Powell in conjunction with the North Texas Council for International Visitors. On Monday, August 13, 2012, a program was presented by Powell Shale Digest editors Gene Powell, Will Brackett and John Evans, P.E. entitled Evolution of Shale Plays in the United States with emphasis on economic benefits and how the oil & gas industry has not contributed to noise, air or water pollution. Included in the presentations was Private Property Mineral History & Rights by Dr. John S. Baen, Baen & Company and the University of North Texas. Today, Monday, August 13, 2012, began with a morning tour of the FTS International (formerly Frac Tech, Inc.) worldwide manufacturing facilities here in Fort Worth. After the tour, the group proceeded to the Derrick Room at the Fort Worth Petroleum Club. The middle of the afternoon was set aside for the eight international oil and gas journalists to spend several hours with Jim Fuquay, Business and Oil/Gas Editor, Fort Worth Star Telegram and Bob Francis, Editor, Fort Worth Business Press, as one of the U.S. State Departments goals was for the international journalists to visit financial news media outlets to explore journalistic best practices in covering economic and business news. 2

4 These visitors were invited to the United States under the auspices of the United States Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program. There were no representatives of the oil and gas industry present during the private presentations and meetings today at the Fort Worth Petroleum Club. The staff of the Powell Shale Digest was honored to have been chosen to plan the events and program for the international oil and gas journalists. Tuesday afternoon, the group will be presented a program by the Editorial Staff of the Dallas Morning News in Dallas. 4
