4 Air Berlin is approved by the LBA to conduct GLS approaches down to CAT 1 minima airport. Additionally the following terms must be redeemed: All Boeing 737 aircraft which are equipped with the Multi Mode Receiver are GBAS capable and approved for CAT I operation. The Decision Height must not be less than 200 feet and the RVR not be less than 550 m. Nevertheless the applicable minima for a specific approach is published in OM/C respectively by means of Notam. The approach flown is published in OM/C. The flight crew is trained to conduct GLS approaches (Self Study). The DFS has published a Notam to inform about GLS System Status in Bremen Note: The GBAS Signal will be monitored by the DFS Bremen. Flight Crews will be informed immediately about an inoperative or faulty signal. The Flight Crew must request the GBAS Approach by the Approach Controller Flight Crew: ATC: Air Berlin 1, request GBAS [ dʒi:bλs] Approach RWY XX Air Berlin 1, expect GBAS Approach RWY XX Dipl.-Ing. 6 Because GLS Flight Procedures are almost the same as ILS Procedures we will only point out differences to ILS Procedures. Standard Nav Setup: The approach selection for GLS is accomplished by selecting the GLS approach in the FMC and tuning a GLS channel using the Multi-Mode Navigation Control. 9 Approach MCP mode selection requires the same actions for ILS and GLS approaches. pilot GLS annunciations are identical to those used for ILS except that GLS is shown as the navigation reference on the PFD. Crew actions while flying a GLS approach are just like those when flying an ILS approach. Normal and Non-Normal Operations for GLS approaches are aligned with the Normal and Non- Normal Operations for an ILS approach. Note: GLS approaches have been demonstrated through autoland and rollout; however due to certification status Autolands are currently not permitted. 10 After completion of any GLS approach the GLS Monitoring Form must be filled out Additionally Air Berlin is approved by the LBA to conduct GLS Evaluation approaches at Malaga. This Evaluation phase has started on August 1st, The following constraints by the authority must be redeemed: Pilot Monitoring (PM) will set the GLS channel. Due to the Ground Station prototype system design Air Berlin is only allowed to monitor the GLS Signal by the PM. The PF will set and fly the ILS. A GBAS clearance will not be available by ATC! The GLS Signal in Malaga is for monitoring purposes only! For further information on GBAS procedures airberlin pilots can refer to their OM/B Volume 1 / Chapter 2.7: Dipl.-Ing.
