1 Support for Mental Health and Wellbeing Mental health is about how we cope with life s stresses and strains. We all haves days when small things feel overwhelming and we need some help and support. Our mental health is affected by a number of factors including social, economic, environmental and biological causes. It is also influenced by our ability to talk about problems and find the right kinds of support. This information has been produced to make it easier to find support available for patients living in the Eccleshill area. MIND: Guide-Line (Helpline) A telephone information and helpline available 365 days a year 12:00 9:00. Offers support to those in mental and emotional distress along with family members, carers and professionals. Assists people on an ongoing basis as well as those in crisis. Languages: Punjabi, Urdu Tel: alex@mindinbradford.org.uk MIND: Bradford Ground Floor, Tradeforce Building, Cornwall Place, Bradford BD8 7JT A mental wellbeing drop-in service providing social, practical and emotional support. This consists of various therapeutic and recreational activities; learning and volunteering opportunities; trips out; men- and women-only groups. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 5:00 9:00, Wednesday 11:30 3:30 (men only), Friday 11:00 3:00 (women only). The organisation also offers a health and wellbeing service providing a range of activities in the community to help people maintain mental wellbeing. Tel: Web: Day Centre: Naye Subah ( New Dawn ) Quaker Meeting House, Russell Street, Bradford BD5 OJB Offers day care and support services for Asian women experiencing mental health difficulties. Provides therapeutic and support groups, drop-in groups, ESOL classes (via external organisations), advice sessions, advocacy, information and outreach. There are ongoing opportunities for Asian women to do voluntary work with the project. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30-5:00. Statutory advocacy services for people subject to sections under the Mental Health Act and for people who are unable to make specific life-changing decisions (assessed as lacking capacity) under the Mental Capacity Act. Link Project feeding back views of service users and carers about the services they receive in to service planning. Training and support for people who wish to be volunteer advocates. 4 Cruse Bereavement Care: Skipton 1D Royal Oak Yard, Raikes Road, Skipton BD23 1NP Cruse Bereavement Care promotes the well-being of bereaved people and enables anyone bereaved by death to understand their grief and cope with their loss. As well as providing free care to all bereaved people, the charity also offers information, support and training services to those who are looking after them. We offer a one to one counselling service to bereaved people either at our office in Skipton, at other venues in the Craven & Bradford Area or in their homes. The service is free and confidential. We also offer children s counseling and pre-bereavement support. Works with children from 5 to adults. Works one-to-one, with parent and child and with families. Offers minimum of 6 sessions with a range of client-centred approaches including solution-focused, CBT and animal-assisted therapy. It offers free counselling to carers over 50, caring for a family member, partner or friend who is confused or suffering from dementia, is frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems. Counselling can help carers deal with difficult feelings such as guilt, anger or resentment and also enable them to look at their own health and wellbeing and plan for the future.
