1 Vacancies Advice Workers- Edinburgh 2 Full Time (Job share might be considered) (36.25 hours a week/ 20,931 per annum ) FAIR is an advice and information service for people with learning disabilities and their families. We are looking for Advice Workers with knowledge of the current welfare benefits system and financial capability advice. The posts are funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund for 4 years. Application packs from FAIR, 95 Causewayside, Edinburgh, EH9 1QG. 2 Post: Advice Worker (Welfare Rights and Financial Capability) Job Description We are looking for an Advice Worker who will assist with the expansion of our unique and innovative advice and information service. The Advice Worker will: Deal with enquiries on a daily basis, especially welfare rights and financial capability enquiries Arrange appointments to meet people with learning disabilities and their carers which may include home visits. Support clients to attend medical assessments and various appointments Deal with follow-up work resulting from enquiries, up to and including representation and advocacy Maintain accurate records of all enquiries, advice and casework, using a database Submit and present reports to the FAIR Management team and the Board of Directors Raise awareness of the service with other voluntary and statutory organisations by letter, publicity campaigns, presentations or other appropriate means Assist with the development of new outlets for advice and information and new ways of getting information to people Attend staff meetings Make regular contributions to the monthly newsletter Adhere to FAIR policies, particularly those dealing with confidentiality and equal opportunities The Advice Worker will be expected to keep up to date with changes in welfare benefits, pensions credits, tax credits and social work services, in relation to their effect on people with learning disabilities and their carers. 3 Person Specification It is essential that the person appointed has Sound current knowledge of the welfare benefits system and welfare reform Experience in assisting people to manage their finances. Substantial experience of working in an advice service Knowledge of the issues affecting people with learning disabilities and carers Excellent communication skills Excellent social skills Experience of working with a range of external agencies and organisations Good IT skills It is desirable that they have Worked with people with learning disabilities Some development work experience Experience in representation work, particularly Social Security / Disability Benefit Tribunals A full driving licence and use of a car for work Protecting Vulnerable Adults Scheme This post involves a high degree of contact with vulnerable adults.
