4 Summer Business School: Programme Structure The full Summer Business School programme lasts 4 weeks, and covers the following 4 topics: Marketing & Strategy Course dates 7 July - 11 July New Media & Communication Marketing success and business success are inseparably linked. Survival in the new media environment now puts even greater emphasis on intelligent use of marketing s essential tools. Without agile strategies to implement these tools, most products and services fail. Throughout this course you will be introduced to the purpose, processes and methodologies of marketing strategy. Through presentations and discussions on examples of best practice, you will develop an in-depth understanding of the purpose of marketing planning. You will also engage with the various strategic, operational and tactical issues surrounding marketing and strategy. Course dates 14 July - 18 July 2014 The power of the digital media is virtually limitless - as is evidenced by the pervasiveness of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. However, the most suitable strategy and digital platform must be assessed on a case-by-case basis according to both topic and positioning. Through a variety of case studies you will examine different situations, products and services and their ultimate goals. You will analyse the pros and cons of various new media approaches, alongside ethical considerations and the future of the new media itself. Leadership & Organisation Course dates 21 July - 25 July 2014 Are you a leader? Do you want to become one? Will you ever be a leader? Effective leadership is a deciding factor in the success or failure of a business. Leading organisations therefore make a major investment in training in leadership and management techniques. This course will guide you through an exploration of the key factors in effective business management. You will have the opportunity to test different approaches to leadership and will conduct real-life case studies to illustrate the diversity of possible scenarios and outcomes. Global Business Environment Course dates 28 July - 1 August 2014 To succeed in today s global economy, you require an excellent working knowledge of key markets and economies. You also require insight into the thought processes and communication skills of industry leaders. The success stories in this area, such as Zara, Shell, and Body Shop, have thrived not only through accurate business sense, but also by knowing exactly how to tackle new international ventures. Throughout this module, you will examine case studies to develop your own critical thinking and analytical skills, as well exposing you to new ideas.

In this course you will explore the intellectual and practical background to the concept of corporate governance domestically in the UK and internationally. You will also review the legal and extra-legal solutions for perceived problems with past and present corporate governance regimes. Proposed future developments and monitoring of corporate governance compliance will also be critically examined. 7 Global Finance Law Course dates 23 June - 27 June 2014 Global Finance Law provides interdisciplinary skills with a focus on the global financial system which includes banks, markets and investment funds, covering multi-level legalities. The two key international institutions of global finance are the IMF and the World Bank. This module will also examine new forms of global financial law. You will be introduced to the basics of the global financial system including the issues of systematic risk and the global nature of legal structuring and regulation of the global financial system and organisations. This course will require you to consider the pros and cons of global governance in the context of the global financial system and organisations. International Trade and Competition Law Course dates 30 June - 4 July 2014 This course provides an introduction to the legal framework of international trade and competition, drawing upon primary and secondary sources of law as well as international treaties.
