Ciejka Refreshed Computers: All 20 instructor/faculty classroom podium computers will be refreshed this summer. New Resource: Clinical Key is the next generation successor to the online resource, MD Consult. Clinical Key is available from the Library s home page and it contains a wealth of medical and surgical information. Books almost 1,200 titles Journals 500 journals including the Clinics of North America series First Consult over 750 point of care clinical monographs Procedures Consult over 300 multi media and textual demonstrations of medical procedures Drug Monographs from Gold Standard Vitals over 750 medical/surgical topics presenting point of care content distilled from the Clinics of North America series of review articles Patient Education handouts Multimedia content including videos and images Practice Guidelines Additionally, a Presentation Maker feature makes it easy to take images found in Clinical Key and imports them into PowerPoint slides, complete with the appropriate citation. If you need help with Clinical Key, contact a reference librarian at extension Exhibit: The Library is hosting the National Library of Medicine traveling exhibition, The Henkel Physicians: A Family's Life in Letters at the end of June. The Henkel family settled in New Market, Virginia in 1790, where generations of fathers and sons practiced medicine. These Shenandoah Valley physicians ministered to their community, tended to their countrymen on the battlefield, and testified in the nation s courts of law. And they wrote letters. The Henkel Physicians: A Family s Life in Letters highlights correspondence between Henkel family members, explores the daily life of men in medicine, and reveals the challenges of the profession as well as the rewards and responsibilities. As part of the holdings of the National Library of Medicine, the Henkel Family Correspondence covers more than a century of life in the Shenandoah Valley. The exhibition will be on display until August 1 st. 1

2 INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION C. Wiggs The first meeting of the newly constituted Interprofessional Education (IPE) Advisory Committee took place on June 20, The IPE Advisory Committee members expressed enthusiasm for the task ahead. The IPE Advisory Committee will be looking at a Strategic Plan for IPE at UTMB. OFFICE OF INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS J. McKee The table below uses just released IPEDS data. 4 Faculty Updates The Good Samaritan Foundation each year honors Excellence in Nursing in six categories, awarding gold, silver and bronze medals to the profession s best and brightest. This year The Good Samaritan Foundation s 2014 Excellence in Nursing Awards Selection Committee has made the following selections in the Nursing Education: Faculty Category to three of our faculty members. The awards are to be given at their awards ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston. Gold Medalist: Linda R. Rounds, PhD, RN, FNP, FAANP, FAAN DNP Program Director, Professor Bronze Medalist: Patricia Lea, DNP, MSEd, RN, CCRN Assistant Professor Ann S. Lovric, MS, RN Assistant Professor The Graduate Student Organization (GSO) President, Brian Mann, presented its Distinguished Teaching Award to Sheryl Bishop, PhD, Professor and Senior Biostatistician in the School of Nursing, Director of the School of Nursing Behavioral Laboratory. The GSO honored Dr. Bishop, Faculty globally Updates respected expert in her field of human performance and group dynamics among teams working in extreme environments, for her contributions as an performance as an innovative instructor and mentor. 1 Page

5 Faculty Updates - continued Patricia Lea, RN, DNP, MSEd, CCRN, Assistant Professor accepted into the inaugural class of the Texas Medical Center Nursing Leadership Institute to start in the fall of 2014 Suzanne Alton, DNP, FNP-BC, Assistant Professor June 2014: Selected to attend item-writing workshop for national certification exam of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program at the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Annual National Conference. Valerie C. Andrews MSN, RN, CNE, CHSE, Director & Assistant Professor Selected to present two simulation demonstrations at the Texas Academy of Health Science Education Annual Conference, February 20-21, She will present on Mock Room Simulation and Adult II, PA, and Respiratory Simulation. Laura King RN, MSN, CNE Passed the CNE (Certified Nurse Educator) examination in June 2014, administered by the National League for Nursing. She joins a long list of other faculty members who are certified nurse educators, demonstrating their expertise as a nurse educator. 2 P age

Two of the cohorts are on campus this month to meet with faculty for course work and consultation on their scholarly practice projects. Camp Blessing Pediatric Clinical Group 5 Page

9 Pediatric nursing students reported on a great clinical experience at Camp Blessing, a camp for disabled children. Almost 20 students along with two nursing faculty, Natalie Bachynsky MS, RN, and Laura Butler, MS, RN spent a week at the camp. Clinical Nurse Leader Alumnus Lynn Bell Received the Outstanding Leader of the Quarter Award from UTMB Health System. 6 Page
