Course Description: The course is designed to introduce student in Educational Technology Programme to the meaning and Historical Development of Photography and it s relevance to Educational technology, students would be exposed to the meaning of photography, Development of Photography, History, Features, effects and benefit, Digital photography and it s terminology, digital and traditional cameras compared, how Digital Cameras work, types and levels of Digital Camera, Advantages and Disadvantages of Digital Camera, solarization in digital media and time lapse photography. 1

Course Justification: Modern methods of teaching demand for the use of appropriate instructional material on the part of the teachers who are supposed to assist the learners to understand some of the basic concepts. There is a need to make the teaching and learning of various school subjects much more interesting, motivating, and stimulating to the learners. One of the ways of achieving this is the adoption and utilization of educational media of which photography is an example. One of the major objectives of the teacher education programme is to produce competent professionals who will be capable of making teaching and learning easier for the students. Effective teaching and learning cannot take place without appropriate and judicious use of instructional resources and equipment. In the light of this teacher s ability to produce and utilize equipment and materials for teaching and learning will depend to a great extent on his interaction with and continues use of media for teaching and learning. Course Objectives: The general objective of the course as an integral/part of the B.Ed (Educational Technology) is to produce graduates in Educational Technology who will be competent to provide adequate support services in the area of instructional educational materials for practicing teachers at all levels of education. At the end of the course, the students will be able to: i. Define photography. ii. Trace the Historical development of photography. iii. Explain the relevance of photography to educational technology. 2
3 iv. Explain the various types of camera and terminologists. v. Define the concept of photography and also explain the Historical development of photography. vi. Discuss Photography and Art. vii. Explain the various types of camera i.e. black and white, Digital Camera, History, Features and Effects benefits. viii. Explain Digital (Photography and its terminology). ix. Distinguish between Digital Photography and Traditional Cameras i.e. the body, the cost, the quality capture rate. x. Describe the mode of operation of Traditional Camera and Digital Camera. xi. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of Digital Camera to Educational Technology. xii. Explain solarization in Digital Media. xiii. Explain and describes time lapse photography, and its mode of operation. Course Requirement: This is an elective course for all students studying Educational Technology. In the light of this, students are expected to participate in all the course activities, including the practical and have minimum of 75% attendance to be able to write the final examination. Practical production of educational materials will be conducted by the students. They will also be expected to treat the study questions and assignments. 3

The delivery strategic will also be supported by tutorial session and review of study question. Practical Schedule: The practical session involves introduction of Educational Technology laboratories to the student and the various equipment available for production of instructional e-resources.
