1 STaR Quick Start Guide How to Record a Collaborate Session Collaborate sessions can be recorded and provided to students for playback. Collaborate can also be used to record lectures and linked next to related course materials/ac9vi9es within the course. This Quick Start Guide will explain how to record a session and provide access to students for viewing. See Collaborate Resource Guide for more tutorials. Overview Adjust Recording Settings Select Record to Start/Stop Allow Recording to Process Provide Access to Recording March 2013 DOI: Related Resource Guide: Collaborate
2 Step 1: Access Blackboard Collaborate Navigate to Control Panel > Expand the Course Tools menu > Select Blackboard Collaborate. Step 2: Select Create Session or Edit Session Select Create Session from action bar on the Bb Collaborate List Page.
3 Cop Or select the action link next to the session and Edit from the drop down menu. Step 3: Adjust Settings Under the Information tab > #3 Session Attributes change recording to be automatic, manual, or disabled. If recordings are set to automatic, each time the moderator accesses the session recording will automatically begin. If set to manual, the moderator can start and stop the recording during the session.
4 Step 4: To Record Manually, Access the Session The moderator will be prompted to begin recording upon entry. Select the Record button to start or stop the session. Press OK to confirm start/resume recording.
5 Button indicates Recording. Press again to stop recording. Press OK to confirm stop/pause recording. To process the recording, close the session. Processing could take up to 24 hours. Return to the Collaborate List Page to access the recording after this time. Step 5: Return to Collaborate List Page Select the Recordings tab from Collaborate List Page
6 Step 5: Search for Recordings Adjust start and end date to search for recordings. Press Go Step 6: Provide Playback Option for Students There are many options for recording playback: 1. Provide Direct Access to Collaborate List Page 2. Add a Single Recording to a Content Area Add Direct Access to Collaborate List Page 3. Enable Guest Link and Share URL 4. Convert to MP3/MP4 Each option will be explained below.
7 Option 1: Add Single Recording to Content Area Select the plus sign to add a Tool Link to Course Menu. Select Blackboard Collaborate Scheduling Manager from the drop down list and rename according to intended use. Make it available to users and press Submit.
8 Option 2: Add Single Recording to Content Area Select the action link next to recording title and choose Add Content Item If desired, rename the content item. This is how the recording will display in the content area. Place a check mark next to existing content area to add the recording. Or select the expand icon to access folders within content areas.
9 Add a description or comment to display in the content area. Restrict the availability of this content item (recording). Press Submit. Recording will display in content area. Click on recording title to launch recording. Option 3: Enable Guest Link and Share URL Access the recording from the Collaborate List Page. Select the action link next to the title and select Edit.
10 Under #3 check Enable Guest Link and press submit. A message indicates guest link created and provides a URL. Access the recording and select the action link to retrieve the guest link again.
11 Option 4: Convert to MP3 or MP4 Access the Collaborate List Page and select the action link next to the recording to convert to MP3 or MP4. The Convert option can also be selected from the column to the right of the recording. Once converted, select the green play button to view or download.
