1 Basics of Fastlook Where you can use Fastlook Many different document types can be viewed using Fastlook, from drawings (.dwg) to scans (.tiff) Fastlook can be used to view drawings and scanned documents. These documents can be CD s sent from Facilities Records or documents stored on the Group directory. I. Logging in Fastlook Icon If no icon on your desktop, create a shortcut. Go to Start Button. Left mouse click and select programs. Locate FastLookV10.0 folder. Go to drop down arrow and right mouse click on FastLook V bit. Select create Shortcut. This creates a shortcut, click and drag this out to your desktop. Before you Begin Viewing I. Configure Fastlook Before viewing a drawing or document, set up the font. This setup prevents a font not found prompt from appearing when viewing a new file. Login to Fastlook by double clicking the icon. Go to Options > Configuration Unclick the box next to Prompt for Fonts not Found Press Save Options buttons. Click OK buttons. Page 1 of 10

2 II. Load FastLook Help files The online help files in FastLook are not automatically available when you login for the first time. You can load them and make them available after your first login by doing the following: 1. Click on Help in Fastlook menu. 2. Setup the path to the help files by typing in C:\Program Files\fastlook\fastlook.hlp 3. Click the OK button. Page 2 of 10

3 Using Fastlook 1.Login to Fastlook by double clicking the icon. Fastlook Screen 2. On the left hand portion of the screen is the Navigation Panel. This is where you can select the file Type you wish to view and then navigate to the drive where the files are located. The black area is the drawing window where the drawings or other files are viewed. I. Viewing a Document 1. In the Navigation Panel, click on the button marked *.DWG and select the type of document. To view all file types select All Files. Page 3 of 10

5 3. Open the document to view by double clicking. Page 5 of 10

6 4. To select an area on the drawing, use the left mouse button. Click a beginning point, then drag the mouse until you have a selection area. This is called marqueeing II. Zooming into an Area and Printing 1. Within a drawing, marquee an area. Page 6 of 10

7 2. To print this go to the File Menu 3. Select Print. 4. In the Print window click Window under Selection. 5. Click OK. III. Zoom tools Use these tools to focus into a selected view area. Zoom In. Zoom Out. Zoom Previous. Page 7 of 10

8 Zoom Extents. Scales the image to fit inside the drawing window. IV. Viewing Records Drawings in Fastlook Records Drawings are kept in the I:\groups\fac\records\approved\ directory. Inside this directory are folders ra, rb, re, ect. These abbreviations indicate what type of drawing is inside the folder: ra Architectural rb Background rc Parking Stall Configuration re Electrical rm Mechanical rr Roof ru Utilities sp Space Planning V. Turn Directory List On or Off. To the left of the file type in the Navigation Panel, click on the push pin icon. This will change the icon to a push pin out. Page 8 of 10

9 Moving your cursor over the drawing view will hide the directory list. Page 9 of 10

10 Move the cursor to the left edge of the drawing and the directory list will return. To keep the directory list showing, click the push pin icon in. Page 10 of 10
