1 Proposing an Exhibition About the Residential College Art Gallery The recently renovated 500 square foot gallery is suitable for both traditional exhibitions and alternative site-specific installations. Each semester the gallery holds two professional art exhibitions of four to six weeks duration, along with one show of student art work from within the Residential College. The gallery primarily supports the Residential College Studio Arts Program through exhibitions of contemporary art in a range of disciplines that reflect the diversity of the program. Additionally, the RC Art Gallery serves the broader mission of engaged and interdisciplinary learning common to other programs in the Residential College. The gallery seeks to provide aesthetically compelling exhibitions that actively engage the community in questions of cultural, artistic and social relevance. About the Residential College The Residential College (RC) is a four-year interdisciplinary liberal arts program within the College of Literature, Science and Arts (LSA) at the -Ann Arbor. Founded in 1967, the RC is often described as a living-learning community; this is because RC students live and learn in the same physical space: East Quadrangle Residence Hall. The RC community encourages and welcomes participation by everyone associated with it staff, students, faculty, friends, and alumni. The RC curriculum is interdisciplinary and engages students in creative exploration of the humanities, the social and natural sciences, intensive foreign language study, and the visual and performing arts. We seek to foster a genuine appreciation and lifelong passion for learning; not merely individual quests for knowledge, but preparation and encouragement that lead to effective and responsible engagement in the real world. Application guidelines Exhibition proposal narrative (2 pages maximum) Describes the concept or theme of the work or exhibition Provide an explanation about how the proposal supports the gallery s intent to provide aesthetically compelling exhibitions that actively engage the community in questions of cultural, artistic, and social relevance. Artists: describe your current work, proposed work, any significant new directions for your work Curators or installation artists: demonstrate your ability to execute the exhibition If work samples submitted are representative, indicate how the proposed exhibit will differ Describe any special installation support or technical equipment required Work samples (10-15 images) jpeg images, 800x600 pixels maximum size mp4 or m4a move, 5 minutes maximum length file naming convention: Lastname_Firstname01.jpg List of works, including thumbnail image, title, date completed, size and medium Applications may be submitted via as a single PDF document to, or by mail to Residential College Art Gallery, 701 E. University Avenue. Applications submitted without sufficient SASE will not be returned. Applications are accepted year-round, and reviewed twice a year, in April and December.
