3 Brief History of Chennai Founded in 1639 when Bri-sh East India Company acquired and built city founda-ons on the site of Fort St. George Founding of The Corpora-on in the 1800 s enabled the city to substan-ally officiate on consolida-ng key infrastructure beyond its roads and arterial lines of transport.
