3 Headcount/Credit Hours The unduplicated Spring 2010 headcount is 16,140, up 9.7% from last Spring (+1,427 students). This is not only the largest Spring census headcount in JJC s history, it is the highest unduplicated census headcount for any term. Credit hours for Spring 2010 are up 13.1% from last Spring (+16,971.5 credit hours). This is not only the largest Spring census credit hour count in JJC s history, it is the highest census credit hour count for any term at JJC. The number of students enrolling in at least one web based course (excludes blended course sections) has decreased from 2,499 students for the Spring 2009 census to 2,467 students in Spring 2010 ( 1.3%). Table 1. Unduplicated Headcount Spring Census Unduplicated Headcount Credit Hours Spring /26/ ,713 Spring /26/ ,224.5 Spring /25/ ,140 Spring /25/ ,196.0 % Difference 9.7% % Difference 13.1% Enrollment by Full Time/Part Time Status Part time students represent 65.8% of the Spring 2010 census headcount, this is a 9.9% increase (+955 part time students) from Spring JJC witnessed a 9.4% increase to the number of full time students for Spring 2010 (5,515 full time students), this is an increase of 472 full time students from the Spring 2009 census of 5,043 full time students. Females makeup 56.0% of the Spring 2010 census headcount, this represents a 0.7% decrease from the 56.7% represented in The minority population at JJC represents 25.9% of the total census headcount for Spring 2010, the decrease in the minority population can be slightly attributed to the required changes to the federal racial/ethnic data coding structure/reporting (change effective July 1, 2009 NCES/ICCB). For the Spring 2010 census Black Non Hispanic students witnessed a decrease of 6.2% ( 103 students) from the previous Spring census, while the Hispanic population has seen a 13.8% decrease for Spring 2010 ( 356 students), and the White Non Hispanic student population has decreased by 8.0% ( 801 students) over the last Spring census. The total minority population for the Spring 2010 census is 4,185 down 10.5% from the prior year s census. 4 Enrollment by Age Just over thirty eight percent (38.4%) of the Spring 2010 credit students are 25 years of age or older representing a 1.7% decrease from 40.1% at the 2009 Spring census for the 25 and older population. The largest number change is represented by the age category with an increase of 904 students (+15.4%). The overall average age of credit students at JJC for Spring 2010 is 26.4 years of age. The overall average age decreased by 1.3 years for the previous Spring census of 27.7 years Please note small number changes can result in large percent changes for groups with low counts. Table 4. Average Age Spring Census Status Spring 2009 Spring 2010 Overall Average Age Enrollment by Registration Status The number of continuing students has increased by 329 students (+3.2%) from the previous Spring term. JJC has witnessed a 31.2% increase to the number of returning students (+690). The dramatic shift in transfer students may be mostly attributed to census computer programming change. Data definitions: New Freshman A student not previously enrolled in college; New Pre College includes early entry and dual credit; Transfer a student entering JJC having earned credit at another college/university; Continuing A student who has enrolled at JJC the previous term; Returning a student who has enrolled at JJC previously but not in the previous term. 5 Enrollment by Top 25 Cities Joliet continues to have the highest proportion of students for Spring 2010 (22.2% of total Spring 2010 census). Table 7 represents the top twenty five cities for Spring 2009 and Spring 2010 census. The following cities represent 93.8% and 93.9% of the Spring census headcount respectively. Table 7.
