2 HYDRATION Water is a major element in the body, making up 70% of it, and is also essential for the well being of skin. Proper hydration depends on the barrier function. The more compact the stratum corneum is, the more hydrated skin will be. Several factors can easily disturb this protective system: harsh cleansers, environmental (smoking, pollutants) and weather factors (i.e. very cold weather, the sun). In time, these imbalances will lead to early ageing, thus need to be addressed. Everyone of us should start using cosmetic treatments in our younger years already, and every day.
