1 How to upgrade Java software for MAP When logging into MAP on Monday, Aug. 10 and thereafter, all MAP users will be prompted to upgrade their Java software version from SE6 to SE7. Most Business Offices will receive a Software Center notification when they log in on Aug. 10, but instructions for upgrading Java directly from MAP are also included below. WARNING: DO NOT UPGRADE JAVA UNTIL MONDAY, AUG. 10. A premature upgrade could affect your ability to use MAP applications. 2 Installing Java for MAP through Windows Software Center If MyID credentials are used to access your computer, you should see the following prompt on Monday, Aug. 10. Please note that it may take a couple minutes after login for this to appear. Click the notification bubble and follow the installation instructions below. Exception: If the new software icon does not appear after a few minutes, open your Start Menu and navigate to the Software Center under Microsoft System Center and Configuration Center. You can also type the words Software Center into the Start Menu search bar. Click to open the Software Center. When the Software Center opens, click on to highlight the WVU MAP Java 7 Update 75 Install item and then click INSTALL. Please be sure that it has MAP in the title. Your Software Center will tab to the Installation Status screen. Please let the Software Center remain open until the WVU MAP Java 7 Update 75 Install has completed. Once completed, MAP should perform normally with the newer version of Java. The older Java versions have been uninstalled and the Java security setting is now at Medium. If MAP opens normally, you may disregard the remainder the instructions below. Page 2 of 5

3 Installing JAVA through the MAP prompts using Internet Explorer Navigate to your appropriate MAP responsibility in Internet Explorer as you normally would. A prompt will appear for the Java SE Runtime Environment 7 Update 75 at the bottom of your browser. Click Install. If your computer prompts you to allow the update, click Yes so the installation can continue. Click Install and allow the Java screens to complete before closing or canceling any of them. You DO NOT need to change the destination folder. Click Next to move through any additional screens with their defaults and then click the Close button on the final screen. *Continue with instructions on next page. Page 3 of 5

4 Setting Java Security for MAP This is a required step to allow proper access into MAP. If your Java security settings are not correct, the following prompt will appear. Follow the rest of the instructions in this document to adjust your Java security settings to Medium. Accessing the Java Control Panel Open your computer s Control Panel and choose Java, or use Ctrl + Click in the following links for assistance. Windows ( Mac OS X ( Setting the security levels through the Java Control Panel In the Java Control Panel, click on the Security tab. Select the Medium desired Security level. Click Apply. Click OK to save changes made to the Java Control Panel. You should now be able to open MAP. If you are unable to perform necessary tasks in MAP, contact the ITS Service Desk using the information the first page. Page 4 of 5

5 Uninstall old versions of Java If you manually installed Java by following the MAP prompts, you should uninstall all old versions of Java. Older versions may appear in the program list as Java Runtime Environment SE5 or SE6. Uninstall Java Windows ( Uninstall Java Mac ( Normal Java pop- up for MAP Check the Do not ask again box and then click Later. WARNING: There are newer versions of Java that are not supported by WVU systems at this time. DO NOT CLICK UPDATE. Check the I accept box and then click Run. This Security Warning may appear twice before MAP opens on your screen. Page 5 of 5
