2 COMPETITION RULES 1. EVENTS The competition will consist in two independent ski events: a. on 27 March 2009 a ski mountaineering event will be held; two-person teams using ski touring equipment will be required to complete a designated route within a specific time limit. Additionally, four technical events will be held along the route. b. on 28 March 2009: two-person teams (the same teams as in the ski mountaineering event or others registered for the alpine ski competition only) will race a giant slalom with double handle rescue toboggan and, additionally, there will also be held an individual giant slalom event 2. COMPETITION PARTICIPANTS The competition may be participated by members of mountain rescue organisations, including in particular those associated in IKAR CISA. 3. AGE CATEGORIES a. The racers will compete in two-person teams. b. The age groups are based on the sum of the age of the team members. c. There are the following age groups: - up to 70 years - between 70 and 100 years - above 100 years d. in the giant slalom raced by individuals the age groups are as follows: - up to 35 years - from 36 to 45 years -from 46 to 55 years - more than 55 years. 4. THE MAIN PRIZE will be awarded to the team which will win the most points in the team competitions. PRIZES will also be awarded to the first three teams in each of the specific age categories, in the SKI MOUNTAINEERING AND ALPINE SKIING COMPETITIONS. Additional prizes will be granted to the teams which will win in the specific technical events. In the GIANT SLALOM race classified individually the prizes will be awarded to the winners of the first three places in each of the age groups. 5. The organiser provides room and board free of charge. The participants cover the cost of the journey to Zakopane. The participants should be insured by the organisation they represent. 6. Participants should register using the attached registration forms. 4 DETAILED RULES OF THE TECHNICAL SKI MOUNTAINEERING COMPETITION 1. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT EACH OF THE TEAM MEMBERS MUST HAVE - SKIS must be at least 62 mm wide, with metallic edges and with ski-touring bindings - BOOTS ski-touring boots on Vibram type sole (soles must cover at least 50% of the surface of the foot); boots must be adaptable to crampons - A PAIR OF SKI POLES - SKINS 1 pair - RUCKSACK allowing for mounting a single pair of skis, two pieces of climbing equipment (ice axes or hammers) and ski poles - CLIMBING EQUIPMENT (ice axes or hammers) two pieces. - CRAMPONS at least 10-point (if unused MUST be carried in the rucksack) - HELMET designated for climbing, UIAA or CE standard compliant; MUST BE WORN ALONG THE ENTIRE ROUTE - CLIMBING HARNESS UIAA or CE standard compliant - 2 PERSONAL SLINGS FOR SELF SAFETY (at least 50 cm long each) + 4 KARABINERS, including 2 with safety lock - AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVER (457 khz frequency) - AVALANCHE PROBE of at least 240 cm - AVALANCHE SHOVEL the shovel must be at least 20 cm x 20 cm and the handle of at least 40 cm - FIRST AID KIT (2 bandages, sterile dressing gauze, pain killers, NRC foil) - GLASSES or GOGGLES - HEADLAMP - CLOTHING: - at least three top layers including a Polar type jacket and a windproof shell jacket and at least two bottom layers including windproof shell pants (one of the layers may be a ski jumpsuit) - gloves; - cap. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT PER EACH TEAM: - COMPASS - BEVERAGES min 1.5 litres - SKINS additional pair - MAP will be provided by the organisers - ROPE at least 9mm dynamic rope of at least 25m GENERAL COMMENTS CRAMPONS (if not used must be carried in the rucksack) SKIS (if not used must be carried stripped to the rucksack) CLIMBING GEAR (ice axe or hammer), if unused may be carried either attached to the rucksack or in the rucksack. THE ORGANISE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CONTROL THE EQUIPMENT ALONG THE ROUTE. IF ANY ELEMENT OF THE EQUIPMENT IS MISSING 10 penalty minutes added to the time achieved in each of the technical events During technical events the competitors may use their own equipment only.

5 2. THE SCORE The score of the teams for the overall competition score and for the technical events is counted OVERALL (WITHOUT ANY DIVISION INTO AGE CATEGORIES). For the first place in each of the technical events the winners will be awarded 60 points, the second team will get 55 points, the third 50 points, the fourth 49 points, the fifth 48 point, etc. THE OVERALL WINNER WILL BE THE TEAM WHICH WILL GET THE MOST POINTS. 3. TIME LIMITS: Up to 70 lat 6 hours From 70 do 100 lat 6.5 hours Over 100 lat 7 hours (All the time spent waiting for the technical events will be added to the limit) IF THE LIMIT IS EXCEEDED the time by which it has been exceeded will be added to the time in each of the technical events 4. TECHNICAL EVENTS A. TECHNICAL TIME-TRIAL (CROSS) The teams will start within a certain time. I section ascent on skis, II section wearing crampons, along a rope, using belaying devices III section off-piste descent IV ascent on skis V section off-piste descent. The winners will be the team which completes the route in the least time. PENALTIES (added to the times of ascent); - leaving the designated route -10 minute penalty - no belaying devices on the roped section disqualification. B. ICE CLIMBING (maximum about 80 degrees), or mixed climbing of up to IV according to the UIAA scale (depending on conditions) The team will climb along a rout of between 20 and 40m with an interim belay stand and change of the leading climber. The climbing route will have permanent belaying points with anchor positions. Crampons and climbing equipment (ice axes or hammers) are provided by the competitors themselves. The winners will be the team which completes the route in the least time. PENALTIES (added to the times of ascent): - AVOIDING THE BELAYING POINT 5 minute penalty - THE CLIMBERS IN THE TEAM DO NOT CHANGE IN THE LEAD 15 minute penalty - no belay DISQUALIFICATION - active use of belaying (A0) points 5 minute penalty - fall (load on the rope), use of an unscrewed karabiner at the belay point 10 minute penalty

6 C. SEARCH USING THE AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVERS Within a designated area of about 100 x 100 m the competitors must find two hidden avalanche transceivers. A transceiver is considered found if the avalanche probe hits the training device (30x30 cm) hidden at 1 m below the snow. The time of the hit is automatically displayed on the judge s control device. The winning team is the one which hits two of the hidden devices in the least time. The competitors use their own transceivers and probes. After a start signal they change their transceivers into the search mode and unfold the probe. Time limit 10 minutes. If the time is exceeded 0 points. D. OFF-PISTE DESCENT The competitors go down in two-person teams. The duration of the descent is counted from the opening of the photocell by the first of the team members up to the crossing of the finish line by the second of the team members.

7 ALPINE SKIING TEAM COMPETITION 1. GENERAL COMMENTS The event consists of two giant slalom runs. First run of the team with the toboggan (empty). The rescue toboggan will be provided by the organiser. Skiing with a lifted toboggan is admissible. PENALTIES: - Both competitors drop the toboggan or the toboggan capsizes, or a gate is omitted - disqualification - hitting a gate with the toboggan 15 s for each hit Second run two-person team without the toboggan. The start is opened by the first of them and closed by the second on the finish line. PENALTIES: - omitting a gate disqualification START according to the drawn start numbers The team with the best time of both runs, subject to the penalties, wins. 2. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT The competitors must have skiing equipment (skis, bindings, poles) and protective helmets. Competing in ski jumpsuits is permitted. 3. THE SCORE For the purposes of the overall score in the entire competition the team s score in the alpine skiing competition is counted in the overall category (NOT DIVISION INTO AGE GROUPS). For the first place the winners get 60 points, the second team gets 55 points, the third 50 points, the fourth 49 points, the fifth 48 points, etc. ALPINE SKIING INDIVIDUAL RACE (competition independent of the team events) 1. GENERAL COMMENTS The event consists of two giant slalom runs. - omitting a gate disqualification The winner is the racer with the best time of both runs. START according to the drawn start numbers 2. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT The competitors must have skiing equipment (skis, bindings, poles) and protective helmets. Competing in ski jumpsuits is permitted.
