IMPORTANT INFORMATION This information must be read prior to participating in a ski training camp with us. You can also visit our website 1. SKI TRAINING EQUIPMENT Race-quality ski boots with appropriate size and flex GS skis with good edges and base, in the correct size SL skis with good edges and base (starting U-14) Ski poles Poles with slalom hand guards (starting U-14) Slalom shin guards (starting U-14) Helmet Slalom chin guard (starting U-14) Back protection Sun goggles Fog goggles Ski gloves with padded backs Training backpack with enough space for ski boots, jacket, goggles, helmet, water, snack Water bottle to take up to the slopes High-factor sun cream Ski repair material (Yellow and red wax, file, etc.) Ski Zenit can provide athletes with ski racing skis and boots from Fischer, with a special price deal. Any equipment must be ordered and paid at least 3 weeks in advance. We can assist you in lengths, sizes and model choice. Athletes will have their equipment ready upon arrival in the local shop Intersport Glacier. There they can also find ski poles, helmets, goggles and slalom guards with a 10% discount. 2. CLOTHING Racing suit (not mandatory) Training shorts (not mandatory) Training fleece (not mandatory)
Ski pants Ski jacket Windbreaker Thermal base layers Ski socks Neck warmer Underwear Tee-shirts for condition training Tracksuit Street clothes Sport shoes (trail-running type) Soap and shampoo Bathing suit Suitcase with wheels (pedestrian town) 3. TRAINING GROUPS Athletes participating in our training camps will be sorted out in training groups according to age and skills. Seeking the best possible individualisation of the training, groups could be changing daily in order to work on specific goals with each athlete. 4. PRIVATE TRAINING Athletes undergoing private training will have a coach assigned for them during the whole training period. The coach will design a totally adapted training program regarding technical, tactical and physical goals for that specific athlete or group of athletes hiring his services. 5. TRAVEL DOCUMENTS Switzerland is a member country of the Schengen Area meaning that travellers from EU countries which are party to that treaty can enter the country with their identity card. However, minors must always travel with a passport. Travellers from other countries will have to find out the conditions for entry into Switzerland before embarking on their trip. 6. INSURANCE All athletes participating in the Camp must be covered by current accident insurance valid for Switzerland covering at least civil
liability, rescue on the slopes, medical treatment and repatriation. We recommend insurance which also covers hired services not used due to injury (ski pass, training, lodging, etc.). Participants' insurance cards should be given to Ski Zenit leaders upon arrival or a copy sent before arrival. Switzerland has agreements with EU Member States for medical assistance at public hospitals. In order to take advantage of such agreements, you must have the European Health Card. You need to apply for this card well in advance at your local health centre. 7. SAAS-FEE. THE GLACIER The Saas-Fee glacier where the camps are held is at an altitude of between 3200 and 3600 metres. It has three T-bars providing access to 3 ski slopes in the free-access area, to 5 training slopes, to a snowpark with a half-pipe and to a small ski/boarder cross. In order to access the glacier in summertime, you must take two cable cars and an underground funicular train. The trip takes a total of 35 minutes. In a normal year, at the beginning of November, the vertical skiable area increases by 300 metres adding several more kilometres of slopes. Even during the Summer, weather conditions can vary quite drastically. That is why the choice of clothing to bring must include items suitable for warm and cold conditions. 8. SAAS-FEE. THE TOWN Saas-Fee is a pedestrian-only town where only certain electric vehicles are allowed. The atmosphere is very serene, clean, and the town is surrounded by an impressive landscape of forests, and glaciers up to 4400 metres. It has all of the necessary services and provides a host of facilities for the practice of sport. These safe and relaxed conditions make it an ideal place for children and adolescents. 9. HYDRATION, NOURISHMENT AND SUN PROTECTION Proper water intake is an important factor for any athlete. Athletes taking part in our camps must take special care with the altitude of the glacier and the low relative humidity. For training on the slopes and post-ski workouts, athletes must carry at least one litre of liquid in their training rucksack which must be consumed during the course of the training session.
Also, and for the same reasons, sun protection using high factor sun cream is indispensable. You must also bring quick-energy salty snacks with you to glacier training (energy bars, nuts, fruit, sandwiches). There is always a break during glacier training to eat snacks. Kids staying in our hotel will be provided with options at breakfast time every morning. A full and abundant breakfast before training is also fundamentally important, and we will insist on this to all athletes in our camps. During the training days diet must be varied, healthy and abundant and it should include vegetables and fruits. 10. PHYSICAL CONDITION TRAINING All athletes taking part in our camps will undergo physical workouts throughout the week. These workouts will always be adapted to age and present condition of each athlete, but will very often be challenging and demanding as well as fun and creative. The post-ski workouts focus on recovery from the training sessions and protection against injury buy also seek to improve strength, coordination, balance, agility and flexibility. Those athletes undertaking a complete pre-season programme with a Ski Zenit trainer will have an ongoing physical training programme to follow in all of the sessions with their trainer which will continue once they have returned home. Saas-Fee is the ideal setting for the practice of a wide range of sports and physical training. 11. TIMETABLES AND DAILY ROUTINE Waking up time is usually at 6:15 am, sitting for breakfast by 6:30 am. Ski lifts open at 7:00 am in July and August. As from the end of August, the opening time is gradually moved back and is set at 8:30 by November. Summer training sessions end at around 12:00 noon. From the end of August onwards, the finishing time begins to gradually move back and by the end of November we train to approximately 1:00 pm. Training always begins with warm-up exercises and then a few easy runs. The training sessions will be divided in two parts, with a ten minute break in between to rest, drink and eat a small amount of energy food. Lunchtime is always between 1:00 and 2:00 pm, the exact time depending on the timetable set each day by the trainer.
After lunch there is always a rest period until 3:30 or 4:00 pm when the physical workouts begin. These workouts usually last for approximately 1.5 hours. Afterwards, there is time to rest and take a shower before the technique session, video analysis or equipment maintenance. Dinnertime is at approximately 7:30 pm followed by free time until bedtime. At least 8 hours rest each night is indispensable for suitable performance the next day. 12. IN THE EVENT THAT GLACIER ACCESS IS CLOSED AND DURING REST DAYS Those days when the skiable area is closed to the public due to meteorological or technical reasons, Ski Zenit trainers organise alternative physical and/or technical activities with the athletes. In no case will reimbursement be made for the days of the ski pass or ski training not used due to causes beyond the control of Ski Zenit. 13. TRANSFERS FROM/TO THE AIRPORT Ski Zenit offers its athletes and their chaperones a transfer service in comfortable mini-buses from/to the Geneva, Zurich, Basel or Milano airports. Transfer by motorway takes about three hours. These transfers are organized through a local company with professional drivers. 14. ARRIVAL TO SAAS-FEE BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT There are comfortable train services from the airports of Zurich, Geneva and Basel to the town of Visp taking about 2 hours and 45 minutes. From the Visp train station you must take a bus to Saas-Fee (one each hour) which takes about 45 minutes. You can buy both legs of the trip on a single ticket. The trip from the Milano Malpensa airport is the same length. From the airport, you need to take a bus to the Domodossola train station (bookings through There you take the train to Visp. Depending on which scheduled train you take, sometimes you may need to change connection in Brig.
From Visp train station you take direct bus or taxi to Saas-Fee (40 mins). For further information see LODGING AT THE SKI ZENIT HOTEL All rooms are double and single occupancy and have a full bathroom. The hotel is a 1 minute walk from the town centre and 1 minute to the lift (cable car). The hotel is equipped with a large restaurant, bar, living room, wellness area and a ski room. General cleaning and change of sheets and towels is done once a week. Every athlete must keep his own room tidy every day. The beds have Nordic comforters so bed-making is fast and simple. Towels are included. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared by the hotel staff. Any special dietary needs must be communicated to Ski Zenit in advance. Collaboration among all participants and teamwork are requirements for successful co-existence in the Hotel. Each group leader or trainer who comes with his/her athletes must take responsibility for compliance with house rules. Each house guest is economically liable for any damages caused. 16. NON ACCOMPANIED MINORS Non-accompanied minors will constantly be under the supervision of the Camp leaders. Our philosophy is to give children freedom in exchange of responsibility. Saas-Fee is an ideal location for that, as well. From September to November, afternoon study times will be set aside for school-aged racers. Racers should bring a summary sheet from their parents or teachers outlining the subjects and topics which they need to study and the homework they are responsible for. If a participant does not have to study, they must bring a written dispensation to that effect. Ski Zenit Hotel guardians can be contacted on a phone number every day between 7 pm and 9 pm.
