2 Vision One of Finland s most important values is wood! The annual wood raw material use in Finland is around 60 Mio. m3, where at the same time the annual growth is 100 Mio. m3. It is therefore the vision to increase the use and the value of wood by prioritising it s material use and influencing the whole value chain from forest to end-use. Stefan Winter

3 Vision A close cooperation between wood science, wood product technology, civil engineering and architecture shall be further developed to support wood and forest industry in developing products and processes as well as the building sector to increase the sustainable use of wood in structures and create energy-efficient, healthy and intrinsic valued buildings. 4 Wood Construction Education in Finland There are three demanding jumps in wood construction business in next years: Starting high rise apartment building activity Increasing energy efficiency of new houses Developing workable solutions for renovation of old houses This all competitively! 4

5 The share of construction with wood is growing fastest in highrise building It will be about 10 times more than today! 5

6 FISE Qualification of Professionals in Building, HVAC and Real Estate Sector in Finland, (There are 18 stakeholder organizations in FISE Ltd.) The highest AA qualification is needed for planning of high rise apartment buildings in Finland we have all together 35 Structural Engineers with AA qualification for wood constrution (updated on ) 6

Next 5 years city of Kouvola, Finnish Forest Foundation and The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK) Foundation are donating 1.4 Million to support The Professorship for the wood construction. 15
