3 OVERVIEW

4 HEALTH CARE SYSTEM The first day of your clerkship you will have to bring appropriate indoor shoes, your stethoscope and your name tag. No white coat is needed. Please ask your contact person were you will find hospital clothes during your clerkship. Normally you could find them at the storage room for hospital clothes (The textilförråd).

5 MEDICAL EDUCATION Swedish medical school is 5½ years long and can be studied in seven different cities, from the south of Lund to the very north of Umeå.We also have LCs in Uppsala, Stockholm, Linköping, Gothenburgh and Örebro. Clinical rotations generally start around the 3rd year and we can practice as junior doctors after finishing the 9th semester. After 11 semesters, students gradaute and do a month long internship at different wards before taking the licensing exam. After minimum 7 years since beginning medical school, we get to call ourselves medical doctors. Sweden can also offer superb research opportunities in both basic science and clinical research. Professors at Karolinska Institutet are for example the ones who decide who will ge the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine every year. We are positive that you will make great developments both as an individual and as a future doctor or researcher together with us!

6 TRANSPORTATION Sweden has an developed transportation network of trains, buses, subways, trams, cars, boats and airplanes. You could easily move within the city or even travel to other parts of Sweden for a small ampount of money. It is easy to take the plane or boat to the rest of the nordic contries such Norway, Denmark, Finland, Island but Sweden is also close to the Baltic countries and you could easily go there with boat or plane.

7 SOCIAL PROGRAM Sweden have a exeptional social programme and we try to show you the best of Sweden when you are here. Each city offers a unique social program every year. All our cities will arrange a joint social program between SCOPE and SCORE exchanges. Many activities are paid for by the local committee, but some costs may not be included in the program. The social program is unique to each city and will differ dependeing on the capacity on the LC. A national project called MRSB (Meeting rest of Scandinavia and Balticum) were we arrange a trip to one country in either Scandinavia or Balticum and all the LCs together go there and explore the contry.
