Inspec the premier source for telecommunications research The Inspec Database has nearly 11 million records, containing abstracts and indexing to global literature covering physics, electrical and electronic engineering, computing and control, information technology, mechanical and production engineering. Its comprehensive coverage of telecommunications includes everything from information theory to the development of communications equipment and systems, and includes the closely-related fields of electromagnetic waves, antennas, internet, radar, radio and television. Information is available on topics such as: modulation techniques, speech, image and signal processing, protocols, packet switching, telephony, electronic mail, local area networks, mobile communications, satellite communications, optical fiber communications and manufacturing and testing equipment, as well as documenting the rapid changes in the field. Currently the database contains more than 900,000 records on telecommunications research, with a further 56,000 being added in the course of each year. The screenshots shown in this brochure are from Inspec Direct, the IET s own innovative and highly functional online platform. Topics covered include: n Antennas n Audio signals and systems n Bandwidth allocation n Codes and coding n Cognitive radio n Computer networks n Cryptography n Electromagnetic waves and fields n Filtering and prediction theory n Free space optical communications n High-definition TV n Image processing and recognition n Internet n IP networks n ISDN n Mobile radio n Modulation n Multi-access communications n Multimedia communication n Multiplexing n Optical fibre communications n Power line communications n Protocols n Radar n Radio and television broadcasting n Radio transmitters and receivers n Radionavigation n Radiowave propagation n Satellite communications n Semantic web n Signal processing n Speech processing and recognition n Subscriber loops n Switching systems n Teleconferencing n Telemetry n Telephony n Television n Video signals and systems n Voice mail n Wireless networks 2

What information can you find in Inspec? Search by topics Find articles on hot topics such as cognitive radio and then further refine your search results with Inspec Direct. 4
Search for author Search for high-producing authors in the free-space optical communications field using the classification scheme (b6260s) and analysis tools. Analyse your results to find the number of papers produced by each author over several years. Choose between chart or report format, save the data and analyse at your leisure. 5
Search by classification code Use Inspec classification codes to search the database for optical fibre subscriber loops. ( b6260f Optical fibre networks, b6220b Subscriber loops ) Mix and match the codes to find exactly what you are looking for. 6
Search by company subdivisions and fields Carry out research on companies by subject areas or company divisions: AT&T and Nokia 7
Company comparisons As your technological requirements grow and change, Inspec analysis tools keep you up to date with any current trends. DoCoMo Use the Inspec Thesaurus to see where research at DoCoMo and Ericsson is heading. Ericsson 8
Search by Inspec Thesaurus Visualise connections between thesaurus terms associated with radiofrequency identification (RFID) using Inspec Direct s analysis tools. Inspec Thesaurus is regularly updated with new terms. 9
Search by classification code and free indexing Combine classification codes with free indexing to carry out a more precise search on acoustic communications, and analyse the results to see how research in this field is evolving. 10
