6 CONTINUING EDUCATION OFFERINGS The Continuing Education Office for credit courses is located in room 2H.1 at 4001 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West, near Atwater Avenue, with direct access underground from the Atwater metro station. Registration for most credit courses takes place by Internet before the start of classes in the fall and winter sessions. There are three different categories of students who register for Continuing Education credit courses: students in Springboard to a DCS (D.E.C.), students taking university prerequisites, and students who have applied and been accepted to a program. LE FRANÇAIS POUR LA VIE! Dawson offers a variety of credit and non-credit courses to meet the needs of those who want to study French. Courses start at very basic introductory levels and go to the highest college-level French. Credit: See pages for course list and schedule. Non-credit: Five levels offered. For details, go to: APPLICATION PROCEDURES Returning Continuing Education students registered in Winter 2016 can register through the Internet Registration system WITHOUT completing a Continuing Education Application Form. Dawson students who have not been registered at the College for one semester or more as well as new Continuing Education students must complete a Continuing Education Application Form online prior to registering. For additional information regarding this procedure, please contact the Continuing Education Office, room 2H.1, or visit our website at: Information Session Continuing Education New students are invited to attend an information session on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in room 4C.1. Topics will include: Services available Course selection The registration process SPRINGBOARD TO A DCS (08125, 08128) Springboard to a DCS (D.E.C.) is designed for students who want to take CEGEP credit courses in order to explore CEGEP studies; complete prerequisites required for admission to a CEGEP program; upgrade their academic record to improve chances of admission or readmission to a CEGEP program; upgrade language skills; or complete a CEGEP program. You cannot graduate from Springboard to a DCS (D.E.C.). Admission Requirements To be admissible to Springboard to a DCS (D.E.C.), students must have the Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies (D.E.S.) or equivalent. Students with a D.E.S. missing any of the following subjects will be required to complete remedial courses in their first semester: Secondary V Language of instruction, Secondary V Second Language, Secondary IV Mathematics, Secondary IV Science or Physical Science and Secondary IV History. Status Students may register in Springboard to a DCS (D.E.C.) for a maximum of three (3) consecutive semesters. Students registered in Springboard to a DCS (D.E.C.) can be either part-time or full-time. Note: Full-time status cannot be guaranteed. If you were formerly in a program and have now completed all the required program courses through Springboard to a DCS (D.E.C.), you must apply to graduate. Please see the Graduation Officer in room 2D.6 as soon as possible. The graduation will only take effect the following semester. UNIVERSITY PREREQUISITES (08040) Students who already have a DEC or equivalent and who wish to complete courses specifically required by a university for admission to a program must register in (08040). Please see page 47 to view a complete list of courses available. Students registered in (08040) can be either part-time or full-time. Note: Full-time status cannot be guaranteed. 7 Please note: You cannot register as a Continuing Education program student regardless of your program status in former semesters unless you have applied and received a letter of acceptance. You cannot graduate until you have officially applied and been accepted to a program. D.E.C. Admission Requirements The basic requirement for admission to any D.E.C. program at Dawson College is a Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies (Diplôme d'études secondaires or D.E.S.) that includes Secondary V Language of instruction, Secondary V Second Language, Secondary IV Science, Secondary IV Mathematics and Secondary IV History. Applicants with an academic background judged equivalent to the D.E.S. may also apply. For certain programs, specific prerequisites are required. Students in a D.E.C. program may register on a part-time or a full-time basis. A full-time course load is 180 course hours or four courses. There is no guarantee of a full-time course load as this is subject to scheduling and space restrictions. It is not possible to complete all courses required for graduation through Continuing Education. If you are in a D.E.C. program (any program code beginning with 200, 300, 500) you will be expected to register for courses in your program and you should be aware of your program requirements. Science and Social Science program requirements are listed at the back of this timetable. You can also refer to your progression chart that was sent by mail. Feel free to meet with an academic adviser should you require additional information. Programs Leading to an Attestation of College Studies (Attestation d'études collégiales - A.E.C.) LCA.6X Accounting Principles & Related Computer Applications NTA.1A Commercial Photography NWE.33 Independent Video Game Design ELJ.3B Network Administration & Support A.E.C. programs are designed to provide adults with the training they need for today's job market. The A.E.C. program descriptions can be found on pages of this timetable. For more information please refer to the website: Application Deadlines Application deadlines for A.E.C. programs vary. Please consult the A.E.C. Office if you are applying to an A.E.C. program. Applications are accepted after the deadlines but are only considered if there is space in the program. A.E.C. Admission Requirements Admission to an A.E.C. program may be granted to a person who has: a Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies or instruction deemed sufficient by the College for potential success in the program and who meets one of the following requirements: his/her studies have been interrupted for at least two consecutive terms or one school year; or he/she is covered by an agreement entered into by the College and an employer or by a government program; or he/she has completed at least one year of post-secondary studies over a period of one year or more. Note: Some A.E.C. programs have specific admission requirements in addition to those listed above. Check program descriptions on pages The College will grant an A.E.C. only if a minimum of 50% of the required courses are taken at Dawson College. Students registered in the day division in Winter 2016 If you were registered in the day division in Winter 2016 but now wish to study in Continuing Education only, you must complete a Program Transfer Form through the Omnivox portal prior to registration. Students from other colleges with a "cours commandite" form You must submit your Commandite form to the Continuing Education Office, room 2H.1*. The earlier you submit your form, the better chance you have to find space in the course you need. 9 REGISTRATION INFORMATION INTERNET REGISTRATION Reminder: You must apply online by 11:30 p.m. August 17, 2016, to be able to register using the Internet. For additional information regarding this procedure, please contact the Continuing Education Office, room 2H.1, or visit our website at: Timetable updates, including sections taken off reserve and any sections added, will be posted on the College website at: INTERNET REGISTRATION To register by Internet: Access Dawson's website at: then click on MYDAWSON (top right). If you haven t yet set up your password, you will need your Dawson College student number, your permanent code and your date of birth. Scroll down and log in using this information to create a password. Your permanent code appears on most of the official documents (e.g. transcripts) that have been sent to you by any Quebec educational institution and it also appears on your student ID card. Once you have entered the correct information you will be prompted to choose a security question (which will be used in case you forget your password) and then you can create your Password. Click on Course Registration (under My Omnivox Services). To add a course you will need the 8-character course number and the section number. If no seats are available in a given section of a course, try another section, if applicable. To ask about waiting lists you may call the Helpline (Continuing Education) as indicated in the box below or you may call the Continuing Education Office at Don't forget to finalize. Finalize your registration only when you are sure that you do not wish to add or drop any more courses, but no later than August 22, You can only finalize once, and when you finalize, all your selected courses are finalized at the same time. If you are having problems with your registration, for example, the system does not recognize your prerequisites, CALL THE HELP LINE (Continuing Education) BEFORE FINALIZING. See details in the box below. You will know you have finalized your registration when you see your confirmation number. Please keep your confirmation number for future reference. Students who do not finalize their registration by Monday, August 22, 2016 may have their temporary course registration cancelled. Fees must be paid in full upon registration. See pages for fees information. Students who do not pay their course fees upon registration may have their course registration cancelled, and will remain liable for the nonrefundable fees. HELP LINE (Continuing Education) Remember that only Continuing Education students from Winter 2016 who have an appointment for Fall 2016 registration, and others who apply online before 11:30 p.m. August 17, 2016, are eligible to register by Internet. If you have difficulty with your registration, please call the Help Line (Continuing Education) : Monday, August 8 to Monday, August 22 Monday to Thursday, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. If you do not pay your registration fees in full upon registration your course(s) may be cancelled and no course seat saved for you. 11

10 LATE REGISTRATION/COURSE CHANGE (in person): Wednesday, August 31 Late Registration and Course Change will take place in room 5B.16 on Wednesday, August 31, 2016: 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.: by appointment only for students who applied August 18 to August 25, :00 to 6:00 p.m.: first-come, first-served, for all others eligible to register and for those requesting a course or section change Limited space may still be available for students who do not register online by August 22, 2016, or for those who wish to add a course. Students may attempt course or section changes on the date (and at the times) specified above. Fees for additional courses must be paid in full at Late Registration/Course Change. Please note that students who register on August 31 will be starting classes one week after classes begin. If you register for a Wednesday class, you will need to attend immediately after your registration is complete. Fees must be paid in full upon registration. NOTE ON COURSE CREDIT It is the student's responsibility to ensure that he or she is officially registered and attending the correct course and section, i.e. the same course and section that appear on the student's registration form or individual schedule. Students who do not attend the correct course and section will not receive credit for work done. CANCELLATION OF COURSES The College reserves the right to cancel any course section for which enrolment does not reach the required number of students. Should a course be cancelled, students will be contacted and informed of alternative courses that are still available, or offered a full refund. COURSE WITHDRAWAL In accordance with regulations established by the Ministry of Education, students may officially withdraw from a course until Monday, September 19. Courses dropped by this date will not appear on the students' records. In order to withdraw from a course, students must fill out a Course Withdrawal Form at the Continuing Education Office. Failure to attend a course does not constitute an official course withdrawal and will result in the student receiving a failing grade. ATTENDANCE VALIDATION All students must confirm their attendance each semester after the course drop deadline. Failure to attend a course or courses may affect your status and may result in part-time fees being applied as per the Ministry of Education regulations. REQUEST FOR AN AUTHORIZED ABSENCE FOR MEDICAL REASONS After the official course drop deadline, an Authorized Absence may be requested only for serious medical reasons which prevented the student from attending school for more than three weeks. Supporting documentation from an independent medical professional is required. Other requests will be considered in exceptional cases for grave and serious reasons. Students must submit their request before the last day of classes. CHANGE OF ADDRESS Please advise the College of any change to your address and/or contact information by going to the Dawson website at Click on MYDAWSON, then on Personal file under My Omnivox Services. This will allow us to update your Dawson student file, and also to contact you should there be any change to your course schedule (e.g. class cancellation). CLASS CANCELLATIONS If a teacher has to cancel an individual class during the semester the cancellation is usually posted on the Dawson website. Check the course and section number under Class Cancellations on the home page. 12

11 COURSE SELECTION Tips for success Be realistic about the number of courses you can handle. It is recommended that you schedule a minimum of one hour of study time for every hour of class time. For example, a 75-hour Biology course should be allotted 10 hours a week in your schedule 5 hours of class time (as per the timetable) and 5 hours of study time. Register in the appropriate course level. If you plan to register for an English and/or French course, please see below for information about placement. If you are unsure of your level in other subjects and need more information call for a referral to the appropriate person. You may also check the Science Sequence chart on page 49 and/or refer to previous final examinations on the Dawson website (see the bottom of page 49). If you are registering in person, bring all records of grades (non-dawson) to registration. Plan ahead. Make sure you are aware of the prerequisites for CEGEP or university programs for which you intend to apply. If your English skills are weak, consider starting with an English course to improve your skills before taking other courses. Consider your budget and remember that the fees do not include textbooks and materials. These can be quite costly. ENGLISH & FRENCH PLACEMENT English Placement Students who plan to register for an English course this semester and who have not completed an English course at Dawson College or an English course at the 101 level at another English CEGEP, must write a placement test in room 4C.1 on one of these dates: Tuesday, June 14 at 6:00 p.m. or Tuesday, August 2 at 2:30 p.m. or Wednesday, August 3 at 6:00 p.m. or Monday, August 8 at 2:30 p.m. or Wednesday, August 10 at 6:00 p.m. or Monday, August 15 at 4:00 p.m. or Thursday, August 18 at 2:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary, but please bring your Dawson student number. For placement after August 18, please contact the Continuing Education Office. Please note: It is possible to write both the English and French placement tests the same date. Each test takes about 30 minutes. French Placement Students (except those on commandite from another CEGEP) who have passed their Secondary V French (Language of Instruction or Second Language) in a Quebec educational institution in the last three years, will automatically be placed in a French level according to their grades and do not require a French placement test. French placement results will be available on the Dawson website prior to registration. See instructions below. All other students who plan to register for a French course but have not recently completed a credit French course at an English CEGEP, must write a placement test in room 4C.1 on one of these dates: Tuesday, June 14 at 6:00 p.m. or Tuesday, August 2 at 2:30 p.m. or Wednesday, August 3 at 6:00 p.m. or Monday, August 8 at 2:30 p.m. or Wednesday, August 10 at 6:00 p.m. or Monday, August 15 at 4:00 p.m. or Thursday, August 18 at 2:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary, but please bring your Dawson student number. For placement after August 18, please contact the Continuing Education Office, room 2H.1. To know your English and French placement, go to Click on MYDAWSON, then enter your student number and your password. If this is your first visit to MYDAWSON, click on the link at the bottom of the page next to First time visiting MYDAWSON? You will need your permanent code, date of birth and student number. Once you log in, find My Intranet (on the left), and click on Placement Test Registration and Results, and then on Results. Be sure to read the front and back sections of the timetable. 12 FEES Registration Payment All fees are due in full upon registration. Students who do not pay their course fees may have their course registration cancelled and will remain liable for the non-refundable fees. Students who register in person must pay their fees in full by cash, debit card, Visa, MasterCard, money order or cheque when registering. Post-dated cheques will not be accepted. Late payment fees of $25.00 will be applied to overdue accounts. 13 Application Fee Program applicants and all those who were not registered at Dawson College the previous semester shall be charged a $30.00 non-refundable application fee. Course Change Fee An additional fee of $20.00 is payable for course change. This fee does not apply to course changes required under academic regulations. International Document Analysis Fee Program applicants presenting academic credentials from international jurisdictions will be required to pay an additional non-refundable fee of $50.00 for the analysis of their files. Hourly Fee Students who register part-time (fewer than 180 hours or four courses in their program) must pay $2.00 per course hour upon registration. All students registering for Independent Studies (08072) are charged hourly course fees, regardless of the number of courses they are following. Late Attendance Validation Fee A fee of $25 will be applied to students who do not validate their attendance by the Attendance Validation deadline. Fees for Students Residing Outside Quebec Canadian Students: Canadian citizens and landed immigrants who register for out-of-program courses or parttime in a program, and who are not Quebec residents, pay an additional amount of $5.21 * per course hour for part-time studies. The fee is in addition to all other applicable fees including other hourly course fees. Full-time students in a program pay an amount of $1,477.00* per semester. This amount is in addition to other applicable fees (excluding hourly course fee). *Refundable if a student officially withdraws from his/her course(s) by Monday, September 19, International Students: International students who register for out-of-program courses or part-time in a program pay an additional amount of $27.19 * to $43.25 * per course hour depending on their program/course. The International Student fee is in addition to all other applicable fees including hourly course fees and other fees listed. Full-time students in a program pay an amount of $6,000 * to $9,301* per semester depending on their program. This amount is in addition to other applicable fees (excluding hourly course fee). For detailed information, see the International Students Fees link at the following address: International students in Continuing Education must have a visa valid until the end of December 2016 for the institution they are attending. *Refundable if a student officially withdraws from his/her course(s) by Monday, September 19, Commandite Students All commandite students will be assessed all fees, including hourly fees, paid by part-time students in a program, as well as the application fee (if applicable). In the case of full-time or Fin de D.E.C. / A.E.C. commandite students, they will be reimbursed their $2.00 hourly course fee towards the end of the SIGDEC transmission period (October 2016), subject to a final confirmation of their status by their home college. Only students from public colleges (not private colleges) are entitled to the above refund. Convocation Fee All potential graduates will be assessed a convocation fee once per diploma or attestation. Assessment of Fees The fees are determined by Government regulations and College Bylaws and are subject to change without prior notice. Up-to-date information on fees is available from the Administrative Services Department (Room 4B.5) or from the College Student Fees Web page: Refunds Refunds are not automatically issued. Students may claim the refunds on their account at the Student Fees office in room 4B.5 by presenting two pieces of photo ID. Refunds will be issued on the original credit card used for payment or any debit card. There are no cash refunds. Requests for cheques may also be made at the Student Fees office or by calling , local Tax Receipts For tax compliant receipts, please ensure that you have added your S.I.N. to your account prior to printing your tax receipts. AWARDS Every Fall, Dawson gives an award to a student who obtained the highest average in a minimum of four courses taken over the Fall and Winter semesters. 15 FINANCIAL AID (2E.15) Full time students wishing to apply for the Quebec Loans and Bursaries program must be in a recognized program of study. Full-time is defined as 180 hours/semester, 12 academic hours /week or 4 courses. The programs supported by the Ministry are: (08106) Springboard, (08004) University Prerequisites, (300A0) Social Science and (200B0) Science. Applications are available on-line at or at the Financial Aid office 2E.15. There are part-time loans for students who do not meet the requirements for full time status; please inquire at the Financial Aid office for information about these loans. FOOD AND BEVERAGES Refreshments are available in the 2nd level Atrium cafeteria Monday through Thursday until 8:30 p.m. and on Friday until 4:00 p.m. There are also coin-operated vending machines. STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES (2D.2) Julie Drolet (nurse), Dr. Quiros (gynecologist), and Dr. Finkelberg (general practitioner) are available for different health issues.
