Polish Geological Institute Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny ANALYSIS OF THE PSI DATA FROM THE UPPER SILESIA (SW POLAND) Marek Graniczny Zbigniew Kowalski Magdalena Czarnogórska Andrzej Leśniak
Polish Geological Institute Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny coal mines in Upper Silesian Coal Basin
Polish Geological Institute Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny Beginning of mining exploration in Dąbrowa Górnicza region in the end of XIX century
Polish Geological Institute Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny Upper Silesian Coal Basin comparison of mining activities between
Polish Geological Institute Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny Values of subsidence in Upper Silesian Coal Basin as a result of mining exploitation: 5 mm/24h ( in 70 s) Ćmiel 1995 (levelling) m to 20 m locally long-term data- Łabanowicz 1991 (geodetic measurements) cm ( ) Perski 2000 (DinSAR) Uniform data on the ground movements do not exist
Polish Geological Institute Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny North-Eastern part of the Upper Silesian Basin PSI data PSI data processed by TRE Milano, Italy
Poland Southern Part of Upper Silesian Basin between Rybnik and Ostrava PSI data processed by Gamma Remote Sensing Gümligen, SWITZERLAND Czech Republic
The comprehensive analysis of PSI dataset of the NE part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin has covered: 1. Statistics 2. Landuse 3. Mining areas 4. Digital Elevation Model (slopes) 5. Lineaments 6. Geology 7. Seismicity It was performed in PGI and Mining Academy in Cracovia
PS spatial distribution of coherence between Total number of PS
Values of ground motions in A, B, C, D areas PS selected on the basis of different characteristics of ground motions (A, B, C, D)
Statistical analysis of PS ( points ) Landuse classes PS number Percentage % Urban and industrial areas ,5 roads 153 0,5 Open-cast mining and waste-dumps 144 0,5 Green urban areas, sport and recreation infrastructure ,0 Arable lands and pastures ,5 Other crops ans sparse buildings ,0 Forests 583 1,9 Surface water 24 0, Spatial distribution of PS versus landuse
PS spatial distribution versus DTM and slopes > 8 o Generally, the limited correlation was found. Some relation exist in zone of the Bedzin fault
PS spatial distribution (< -1 and > +1 mm/yr) versus mining areas.
Polish Geological Institute Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny Generally, no clear correlation is visible. However, in some mining areas the negative PS prevail. It is observed in Halemba, Murcki, Sobieski Jaworzno III, Wujek and Kazimierz Juliusz mines
Spatial distribution of PS versus linaement s interpreted at the satelite images Several interesting correlations were found mainly between negative PS and some regional zones
Spatial PS distibution versus faults Very interesting correlations were found. Among them in the cases of: Klodnica fault, Bedzin fault, synclinal structure of Bytom, regional geological boundaries of the coalbearing series (sandstone series show subsidence) and several smaller faults.
Spatial distribution of PS versus induced seismic shocks Seismic shocks are grouping in three zones - north from Klodnica fault, north from Bytom syncline and along the Bedzin fault
Geological interpretation of PS Defined mobile zones are very important for determination of areas for detailed studies using different methods
Jastrzębie Zdrój (Spa) is located In the southern part of the Silesian Voivodeship close to the Czech border. The area of the town covers about 85.4 km² The hard coal mine exploitation takes place within the town agglomeration, since Four coal mines are under operation: KWK Zofiówka, KWK Jas- Mos, KWK Moszczenica, KWK Borynia.
The mining activity has strong and negative impact at the surrounding environment. The following phenomena were noticed: Relief changes, leading to the development of depressions without out- flow. Inundations etc. Development of the surface water basins, due to subsidence, related to mining operations. Rate of the subsidence, since the beginning of the mining operations results from 0.5 up to 8 meteres Changes of the profiles of the running water. Soil degradation leading to unfavorable changes of the vegetation growth. Hazards related to pollution of groundwater. Induced seismic shocks and material looses due to rock bursts.
PSI data-set of Jastrzębie Zdrój
The following PS showed maximum subsidence at the rate 10 mm/year, in the Jastrzębie Zdrój region: Settlement Zofiówka (crossroad of the Rybnicka and Obracaj streets) coordinates; i Crossroad of Pszczyńska and Rybnicka streets coordinates; i Settlement Chrobrego, crossroad of Jana Pawła II and Jagiełły streets coordinates; i Kyndry Forest, crossroad of Graniczna and Podhalańska streets coordinates; i Settlement Zdrój, crossroad of 1 Maja and Dębowa streets coordinates; i Settlement Bogoczowiec, crossroad of Wodzisławska and BoŜa Góra streets coordinates; i
Protective anchors on the buildings
Protective anchors on the buildings
Cracks on casing of the sewage well - evidence of ground motion
Hooked shape of the trees trunks - evidence of ground motion
Preliminary results 1. The correlation between negative PS and objects showing small amplitude of motion 1 cm/year was confirmed. 2. The most probable reason of that motions is creeping (at the slopes of the subsidence basins), indirectly related to mining activity. 3. The positive correlations were founded at the areas above the bottom pillar. 4. The areas characterized by much bigger amplitude of motions related to mining exploitation as well as rock bursts were not indicated at the interferometric data.
