7 9.30 am TOUR AND TASTING AT CHÂTEAU LATOUR PREMIER GRAND CRU CLASSÉ IN PAUILLAC, MEDOC Classified as a Premier Grand Cru in 1855, Château Latour is located in the middle of the Medoc winegrowing area, about 50 km (30 miles) north-west of Bordeaux. The Enclos is at the heart of the Latour vineyard and overlooks the Gironde estuary. 8 11.30 TOUR AT CHÂTEAU MONTROSE SECOND GRAND CRU CLASSÉ IN 1855 IN SAINT ESTÈPHE Château Montrose, a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, is a 95-hectare (235-acre) winegrowing estate overlooking the river. It is located at Saint-Estèphe on a hill of deep gravel beds. 60% of its area grows Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. It extends right to the river and benefits from the soothing micro-climate afforded by this massive watercourse. Apart from the main wine, the estate produces a second wine, La Dame de Montrose. 9 12.0 midday TOUR, TASTING AND LUNCH AT CHÂTEAU TRONQUOY-LALANDE SAINT ESTÈPHE The single sweep of a 29 hectare parcel surrounding the château is the wine s historic birthplace. Château Tronquoy-Lalande is one of the oldest estate in Saint-Estèphe, formed in the 18th century, in the reign of Louis XV. It was built in accordance with the plans of the most famous architect of the period : Victor Louis. It takes its name from the fact that François Tronquoy, creator of the estate, lived in La Lande, a hamlet in the parish of Saint Estèphe. Over three centuries, the Tronquoy, Célerier and Castéja families, and now Martin and Olivier Bouygues, have perpetuated the winegrowing tradition. The brothers Bouygues acquired Château Tronquoy Lalande in July 2006, a few months after buying its neighbour, Château Montrose. They immediately embarked on a renovation programme to expand and modernise the working buildings. At the same time, the wine has made a quantum leap in quality hailed by the Bordeaux wine trade. A second wine has made its appearance, Tronquoy de Sainet Anne, it represents up to a third of the harvest. 10 3.0 pm TOUR AND TASTING AT CHÂTEAU DE ROUILLAC GRAVES, PESSAC LÉOGNAN Château de Rouillac is a magnificent 19 th century building, which belonged to Baron Haussmann, who undertook major works here to produce a delicious wine, which Napoleon III loved! He also introduced horses into the history of the property by building some beautiful stables. The property is located in the southern part of the greater Bordeaux area. It consists of 36 hectares (89 acres) with 16 hectares (40 acres) of vines for red wine and 2 hectares (5 acres) for white. All the vines grow in exceptional soils made up of tertiary gravel, a mix of rounded pebbles and smaller stones. Since January 2010, there have been some important changes made to the estate to restore this exceptional Graves terroir to its full expression and produce excellent wines: 4 hectares (10 acres) were added to the vineyard, which were newly planted with the aim of attaining a total production area of almost 25 hectares (61 acres) in the next three years. 12 Chemin du 20 août CANEJAN Tel Website:

11 4.30 pm TOUR AND TASTING AT CHÂTEAU OLIVIER GRAND CRU CLASSÉ DE GRAVES, PESSAC-LÉOGNAN Situated in the middle of an enormous wooded estate in Léognan, Château Olivier is an ancient manor house, which has belonged to an old Bordeaux family, the de Bethmanns, since the 19 th century. The family entrusts the general management of the estate to Laurent Lebrun an agronomic engineer and oenologist. Just 11 km (7 miles) from Bordeaux, the vineyard covers 55 hectares (136 acres), made up of 45 hectares (111 acres) of vines for red wine and 10 (25 acres) of white. Both red and white wines were classified as Grand Cru Classé de Graves in 1953 and are Pessac-Léognan AOC. Château Olivier produces a second wine, Seigneurie d'olivier. 12 6.30 pm TOUR AND TASTING AT CHÂTEAU SMITH HAUT-LAFITTE GRAND CRU CLASSÉ DE GRAVES, PESSAC-LÉOGNAN The tasting will be followed by a dinner in the cellars of the chateau, served from 8.0 pm. Château Smith Haut Lafitte has a philosophy: To do the utmost so that every vintage of both red and white wines reflects the full potential of this magnificent terroir. Château Smith Haut Lafitte is located just 20 minutes from Bordeaux city centre in Martillac on a 78-hectare (193- acre) winegrowing estate with 67 hectares (166 acres) of vines for red wine and 11 hectares (27 acres) of white. The vineyard management and winemaking techniques were completely reviewed by Daniel and Florence Cathiard in order to get the best out of the terroir with its enormous potential. Smith Haut Lafitte is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves within the Pessac-Léognan appellation. 14 10.30 am TOUR AND TASTING AT CHÂTEAU D YQUEM PREMIER CRU CLASSÉ SUPÉRIEUR SAUTERNES Château d Yquem is one of the most iconic estates in the Bordeaux area. Its history is one of passion. For four centuries, the vineyard has been cultivated following ancestral methods, while the harvests and winemaking are carried out according to family traditions. This is an outstanding terroir with vines that have been scientifically selected and expertise that has been handed down and perpetuated from generation to generation. These factors all contribute, year after year, to the miracle of Yquem. The estate produces sweet white wines with the Sauternes appellation. It is the only wine in its appellation to have been awarded the Premier Cru Supérieur classification and for many people, Yquem is considered to be the greatest sweet white in the world. The greatest vintages can be at their best after 50 or even 100 years of cellaring! Remember! There will be no 2012 vintage of Château d Yquem, deemed to be of insufficient quality by CEO Pierre Lurton. 15 12.0 midday TOUR, TASTING AND LUNCH AT CHÂTEAU GUIRAUD PREMIER GRAND CRU CLASSÉ SAUTERNES Château Guiraud, initially called La Maison Noble du Bayle in the 18 th century, is located 45 km (28 miles) south of Bordeaux on the River Garonne s left bank. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé Sauternes in 1855 its estate covers a total area of 128 hectares (316 acres) all of which are located in the commune of Sauternes. This magnificent property is well known for its natural approach to winegrowing. For 25 years, Château Guiraud has striven to apply methods that contribute to building up a balanced ecosystem in which plant and animal species can coexist in harmony. Every year, about 100,000 bottles of the 1 er Cru are produced from the 85 hectares (210 acres) of vines in the Sauternes appellation. 16 3.45 pm DEPARTURE FOR THE FINAL OF THE CUP HELD AT CHÂTEAU LAFITE-ROTHSCHILD - PREMIER CRU CLASSÉ, PAUILLAC The final will be followed by a dinner. Located in Pauillac, Château Lafite- Rothschild produces one of the most prestigious wines of Bordeaux, whose reputation as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 has been long established. Produced from an outstanding terroir of gravel on limestone, its legendary wine is often held to be the quintessential Pauillac. A point to remember: the average annual production of Château Lafite Rothschild and its second wine, Carruades de Lafite, has been 45,000 cases for the last ten years! Baron Eric de Rothschild has presided over The Left Bank Bordeaux Cup since it began in His aim is to enable the future international elite to be more familiar with the great Bordeaux left bank wines. It has therefore become a tradition for the Commanderie du Bontemps to organise each year s final of the contest at Château Lafite Rothschild, followed by a prestigious dinner in its cellars. The vineyard consists of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot alongside them.
