2 2 Information leaflet - suppliers What are suppliers? Suppliers are operations or operational sites actually transporting sustainable biomass, biofuels or liquid biomass to each next recipient. Concerning the transport of sustainable biomass, two types of suppliers are distinguished: 1. Suppliers before the last interface: They supply the actually cultivated biomass, from the arable farms via first gathering points up to the last interface, to each next recipient. 2. Suppliers after the last interface: They supply liquid biomass or biofuels, from the last interface to the plant operators or to the operator under obligation to provide proof, to each next recipient. Suppliers themselves are not an interface, but are, however, subjected to the requirements of a certification system recognised by BLE provided that they are not under the control of the main customs offices. In Germany, suppliers after the last interface transporting biofuels are controlled by the main customs offices. In this case they don t necessarily have to join a certification system.

Task Suppliers before the last interface Suppliers after the last interface In-house tracing: Internal mass balance system Input and output of sustainable biomass, liquid biomass and biofuels with documentation of data of upstream or downstream operation Kind and scope volume of sustainable biomass, liquid biomass and biofuels Registration number of the certificate of the upstream / downstream interface Person responsible for the sustainability within the operation or operational site Calculation of greenhouse gas emissions Fuel consumption and other energy consumption Covered kilometres (loaded with sustainable biomass and deadheads) Volume of the transported biomass Supply within the scope given by the proof/ partial proof of sustainability only

4 4 Information leaflet - suppliers Task Splitting, merging or transfer Suppliers before the last interface Merging is possible Balancing is only possible if the determined emission values are used for production. Suppliers after the last interface In the case of splitting, merging or transfer of liquid biomass or biofuels: Application for a partial proof of sustainability via the BLE web application (nabisy) For this purpose suppliers have to apply for access! Transfer of documentations and documents Transfer of relevant data to downstream operations and operational sites as well as to interfaces for calculation of the accrued GHG emissions in the area of electricity to EEG - plant operators Proof / partial proof of sustainability confirmation that the requirements are complied with at delivery to the EEG - plant operator in the area of fuels to proofs of compliance Proof / partial proof of sustainability confirmation that the requirements are complied with at delivery to the operator under obligation to provide proof

Suppliers, which aren t interfaces, are randomly controlled by certification bodies according to the specifications of a certification system In the area of fuels, suppliers after the last interface are controlled by the main customs offices for reasons of fiscal supervision. Where is further information available? Suppliers obtain concrete information from their upstream interfaces or from the certification systems or from the certification bodies recognised by BLE using those.
