1 POSITION DESCRIPTION I. TITLE: Senior Application Developer II. REPORTS TO: Manager of Application Development III. OBJECTIVES: Assist in defining, building, implementing and maintaining corporate data processing and reporting systems. The position has a significant impact on the Company s success and controls or is responsible for the Company resources. The impact of decisions primarily affects resource usage. Provides and interprets information. Participates with others in taking action or arriving at decisions. IV. DIMENSIONS: A. Lead Development Projects. 20% of job position. a. Participate the development, implementation and adherence to an application architecture b. Execute all phases of the life cycle in the delivery of application development software assets to support the business. c. Ensure that delivered solutions maintain a high level of application performance and reliability B. Deliver Assigned Projects 55% of job position. a. Deliver projects based on Maxum Prioritization b. Develop and execute detailed project plans to achieve deliverables. c. Adhere to coding and process standards in executing application development responsibilities 1

2 d. Manage application server configuration and code base for various development and execution development environments. e. Participate in and conduct code reviews for both internal and consulting projects f. Participate in the implementation and testing of a business continuity plan C. Manage customer relations. 10 % of job position a. Provide support and training on all Business Applications b. Resolve 75% of helpdesk calls within 48 hours. c. Proactively maintain integrity of Development, QA and Training/Staging and Production systems for greater reliability and availability D. Develop organization and technical knowledge. 10 % of job position a. Build insurance domain expertise by attending insurance related seminars or courses b. Keep technical skillset current by taking advantage of learning resources such as MSDN, websites (blogs, forums), seminars, coursework, etc. c. Support Disaster recovery planning d. Develop an understanding of business application content E. Execute and refine the application development process. 5% of job position a. Participate in identifying, developing and integrating new technologies within our application architecture. Suggest architectural changes as opportunities for improvement are discovered. V. Composition Senior delivery role on the application development team, providing delivery and improvement of Application Development projects and processes. Responsibilities and assignments are complex and require judgment and significant analysis to identify problems or to evaluate plans and programs. Solutions or varied courses of action are based on limited information and/or consultation with colleagues or superiors. Responsible for developing new and innovative methods, ideas, or products. May work independently or with others to design elements that represent a significant change in the Company s technology portfolio. 3

4 C. Know-How (Knowledge & Skills) A. Mastery of project management and Systems Development Life Cycle best practices including agile techniques B. Proficiency in Microsoft Development Tools including Visual Studio,.Net(framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5), ASP.Net, Team Foundation Server, Visual Source Safe C. Fluency in C#, AJAX, Javascript, MVC, MVP, JQuery, JQuery.Mobile D. Expertise in cross-browser compatibility, optimization; experience in mobile application development; and experience in test driven development E. Experience in analysis and design of web applications, architectural patterns, web services, COM/DCOM Components, VBA plugins F. Expertise in SQL Server including SSMS, TSQL syntax, ADO.Net, SQL Profiler, stored procedure development and optimization G. Proficiency in HTML5, CSS, XML/XSL H. Mastery of source code repository best practices including daily build procedures, labeling builds, building code from labels when required, understanding deployment impact of changes as they move through lifecycle I. Ability to perform requirements analysis, communicate with business users, produce effective requirements documentation and produce use cases J. Familiarity with document generation techniques including tools used for PDF generation K. Familiarity with end to end insurance business processes within which usage of Maxum applications resides as a step in an overall workflow. 4

5 L. Communications Required to respond to detailed inquiries in situations where others are only superficially aware of the subject matter. Identifies best format for written communication. M. Expertise in configuration management of Windows server OS and IIS application server (versions 6,7). D. Problem Solving 1) Possesses advanced architecture and application design skills. 2) Identify, research and recommend emerging development technologies and tools. Ability to translate business requests into technical specifications. 3) Ability to match programming techniques and tools to the requirements for new functionality and business processes. 4) Ability to develop strong vendor relationships. VI. FREEDOM TO ACT: A. Authority to create application code according to industry best practices. B. Authority to research, test and recommend development strategies. C. Conducts specialized projects under general guidance from upper management. Projects have an important effect on meeting corporate objectives. VII. QUALIFICATIONS: A. Four year college degree or equivalent experience. 5

6 B. Ten years experience in Information Technology, with a minimum of five years as an Application Developer. C. Effective communications skills: oral, written and listening D. Able to represent the company internally to management and staff, and externally to vendors, community and outside industry. 6
