1 Instructions for assembly and use for HACA fixed two-rail ladders with / without rear safety guard and fall arrest system Englisch Please read before assembling! Caution: incorrect assembly can lead to a rist of death! Please contact our head office in Bad Camberg if you have any queries regarding assembly. 1. General information under consideration of regulations 1.1 Fixed vertical ladders must be connected firmly to the building structure. The surface must be sufficiently stable. Evidence of this and of correct assembly must be provided separately for every building project and must be checked and approved by a responsible technical expert in structural safety. The extraction forces of anchor bolts must be taken from Tables 5 and 6. Structural analyses of the individual components may be requested. 1.2 Planning aid The planning aid (Table 1) is designed as a point of reference when designing ladder installations When planning fixed ladders we recommend that the competent authorities be involved at the earliest possible stage. Transfer platform with/without fall arrest system under consideration of the standards. The manhole standard EN is included in the planning aid but is also described in greater detail in the separate assembly instruction MA Labelling In the case of fixed ladders with fall arrest system an identification plate (Fig. 2) must be legibly filled out and affixed to every access level that can be accessed without this fall protection system. The class according to which the ladder has been designed must also be made clear if the ladder has been designed in accordance with DIN This enables the user (A, B, C) to recognise whether he is authorised to use the ladder before ascending it. This may take place using the identification plate (Fig. 3). Labelling must be in the local language. The identification plates may be procured as adhesive film or as screwon labels. 4 2. Assembly 2.1 General information Measuring should take place starting from the top so that the top rung is at the height of the exit level and under no circumstances is higher than the exit level. Assembly should can at the bottom but should start at the exit level to avoid later differences in level. The shorter, retracted rail end is at the bottom (Fig. 12). (Fig. 13) should be heeded for offset ladder sections or when assembling platforms. The different lengths of standard ladder parts can be mounted in any order. The basic ladder parts have the following standard sizes: 4, 7, 10, 13 (see Fig. 12 for effective lengths). The distance from the top edge of the lowest rung to the ground depends on the standard according to which the ladder is assembled (Fig. 14). Cut surfaces should in general be painted with a thick layer of zinc coating Item No Care should be taken to ensure an even rung distance of 280 mm at the transit point from one ladder part to another (Fig. 12). We recommend that two 280 mm long spacers be inserted between the last and first rung when combining the separate ladders. This ensures an exact rung distance and the requisite clearance between the individual elements of the ladder. This clearance allows for the length of expanding material during temperature fluctuations. 2.2 Transitional sections The transitional sections are available in sizes 4,5,6 and 7. They are designed in the same spacing as the standard ladder parts (Fig.12).Assembling the transitional sections guarantees the required clear exit opening of 500 mm (Fig. 10) in accordance with DIN and EN ISO They are inserted into the top open end of the last ladder stringers. According to these standards the last rung must be at the same level as the edge of the building structure. 4 brackets must be mounted between the structure and transition piece. If ladder hooks with long side pieces are used (Item No. 01/ ) the maximum distance of the first brackets below the edge of the building structure may be (Fig. 9). When using ladder hooks with short side pieces (01/ ) the first brackets may be mounted a maximum distance of 185 mm below the edge of the building structure (Fig. 8). The bottom two wall mountings must be flush with the first rung of the transitional section (Fig. 8,9). See also table 2. The angled ends of the wall mounting can point outwards or inwards here. There are fix and adjustable wall mountings. In the case of adjustable wall mountings the wall distance must be set (see Tab. 5, 6 for the adjustment range). Therefore the wall mountings must be assembled with the two M10 screw connection to the ladder mounting part. The bottom wall mountings may be mounted at a maximum distance of 750 mm from the exit level. The bottom ladder part must be fastened at least twice and every other part at least once. The top wall mountings may be mounted max. 185 mm from the top edge of the building if no subsequent accessories are attached (point ) A Detail A Transition point Abb. 13: Distances ladder/platform Exit platform Ladder distance Ladder with rear safety and standing platform 760 mm 1000 x 1300 bis Mitte Podest 880 mm 1000 x 1000 bis Mitte Podest 880 mm 800 x 800 bis Mitte Podest 780 mm 600 x 800 bis Mitte Podest 680 mm 500 x 1300 bis Mitte Podest 630 mm 500 x 1000 bis Mitte Podest 630 mm Gangway made of platforms min. 760 mm Wall mountings Shorten here if necessary Standard Ground clearance Exit platform DIN mm 380 mm No DIN mm 380 mm Yes EN ISO mm Yes Fig. 14: Fastenings distances MA 5064 j UK 5

The tightening torque of the fixing screw of the ladder fixing bracket is for steel 35 Nm for stainless steel 40 Nm. 2.5 Base plates These are required when using very long wall anchors that are bigger than 400 mm. For the assembly of fall arrest systems with from 200 mm wall distance.. A pair of ties can also be mounted to the bottom wall mountings if the ladder cannot run right down to the ground (Fig ). Fig. 23: Base plates Fig.. 24: Connecting bracket 2.6 Connecting Are used for attaching a bend ladder system which does not end at a servicing level. The connecting bend is no wall mounting and consequently no static support. The ladder system must be assembled as described in point 2.3 wall mounting 2.7 Safety cage general information(abb. 27) The rear safety guards should be connected to the ladder rails at maximum intervals of 1.5 m. The top rear safety guard must be mounted such that the opening facing the platform or edge of the building structure so that there is no danger of falling (Figs. 26 and 27). When using ladder hooks the guard must be attached 100 mm below the top edge of the ladder hooks (Fig. 5). The vertical rear safety guard tubes in the rear safety guard must then be attached to the pre-drilled points with the U-bolt and M 18 nut (Fig.27),, ensuring that the bolt heads are always outside due to risk of injury. Under some circumstances the rear safety guard tubes are supplied in part lengths and must be put together using the enclosed connectors. The joins should be arranged so they are offset in terms of height, i.e. between different safety cages. They must not lie between the two bottom and the two top rear safety guards. For reasons of safety the rear safety guard tubes must end flush with the top and bottom rear safety guard and must be shortened where necessary. The open top tube ends must be closed using plastic caps. The bottom tube ends should remain open for avoiding water within the tube Fig..25: Assembly rear safety Fig. 26: Rear safety guard in accordance with EN ISO und DIN ,1m 5 4 1,60m 1,68m 7 1,1m 2,2m bis 3m 2,2m bis 2,3m 1 7 Fig. 27: Rear safety guard in accordance with DIN MA 5064 j UK

13 3 Anchor bolts Specific values for anchor bolts can be found in table 7. Heed the information in the tables or the specifications of the anchor bolt manufacturer if using other anchor bolts to those recommended by HACA. If the stud anchor Model / is used then washers Ø 35 x Ø 13 x that are at least 4mm thick and are hot-dip galvanised or made of V4A stainless steel must be provided (Fig. 31). Stainless steel anchor bolts made from V4A Model are suitable for rooms prone to moisture, outdoor and indoor use (but not for indoor swimming pools, road tunnels, seawater atmospheres and similar). Zinc-plated anchor bolts Model are only suitable for interior use (with the exception of rooms prone to moisture). The anchor bolts have been approved for cracked and non-cracked concrete. Requirements for correct assembly in accordance with stud anchor certification: Installation must be carried out by correspondingly trained personnel under the supervision of the construction manager. Components must only be installed as supplied by HACA without exchanging the individual parts. The stability of the assembly surface must be checked. The suitable mounting materials should then be selected. Ensure that the anchoring surface is not weakened by radiators, recesses or similar. In this case the anchoring points must be moved. By way of alternative a substructure planned by an engineer may be deployed. The correct assembly must be checked and approved by a responsible technical expert in structural safety. The surface must be checked to establish whether any significant hollow areas are present. Drilling dust must be removed from the drill hole. The effective anchoring depth must be adhered to. This condition is satisfied if the setting depth mark of the anchor bolt does not protrude above the concrete surface. The specified edge and centre distances of the stud anchors must be adhered to without negative tolerances. Drill holes must be arranged such that there is no damage to the armouring. Nuts must be tightened to the torque specified in Table 7 using a checked torque wrench. A hammer drill that is suitable for anchor bolts must be used. Carbide hammer drills with the sign must be used. If a hole is drilled incorrectly the new hole must be drilled at a distance that corresponds to at least twice the depth of the incorrect drill hole. If the distance is less than this the incorrectly drilled hole must be filled with high-strength mortar. This also applies if the traverse or inclined load does not lie in the direction of the applied load. Obtain written confirmation that the relevant assembly instructions have been read and understood and that assembly has been performed according to them.
