1 CEYLON ELECTRICITY BOARD VACANCIES Editor Ceylon Electricity Board intends to obtain the services of an Editor on contract basis to edit/ manage printed and web based publications of CEB. Applications are invited from citizens of Sri Lanka having the following qualifications and experience. 1. Duties and Responsibilities The Editor will function under the Deputy General Manager (Business and Operational Strategy) The Editor will be responsible for the functions enumerated below. 1.1 Printed Publications a. Create articles to be published in CEB publications b. Obtain, edit and improve the contents required to be published in CEB Publications c. Enhance and maintain the quality of all CEB printed publications d. Ensure proper page setting and layout designing of regular CEB publications such as ල ව Newspaper (Bi-monthly printed newspaper circulated internally), Annual Report, and Reports for Budget Debate, Corporate Plan, Diaries, and Calendars etc. e. Coordinate with printing, graphic design, page setting and other publication related organizations to ensure quality and timely delivery of CEB f. Coordinate with translators (where applicable) to ensure proper translation of CEB g. Offer other editing services as and when requested by DGM (B&OS) 1.2 Web Publications a. Ensure all content in the website are factually accurate, up to date and conform to cultural, ethical and legal norms applicable to such publications in Sri Lanka. b. Ensure all web content is up-to-date and all functionalities such as links, pop- ups, online forms etc. are functioning as intended c. Create or obtain write-ups, News items etc. to CEB website and publish them in the web after appropriate editing d. Ensure that the contents in the website conform to the CEB and government policies and compatible with information published by the Government, Ministry of Power and Energy, CEB and other relevant governmental agencies in Sri Lanka e. Advise DGM (B&OS) on any improvements to the content in order to make the website more useful and attractive to the general public f. Check the contents of incoming media for any factual or grammatical errors and edit same for improving the readability and removing any ambiguities g. Ensure that all content uploaded to the website is approved by DGM (B&OS) h. Remove outdated content from the website with the approval of DGM (B&OS) i. Assist users on the use of website; obtain their suggestions for improvement and advice DGM (B&OS) on necessary modifications or additions etc. to the layout, content and functionality of the website. j. Stay current on issues related to web site functionality and security, current trends regarding the web and other relevant matters and keep DGM (B&OS) informed. Page 1 of 5

2 2. Nature of Employment a. The service of the Content Editor will be obtained on fixed-term contract basis for a period of two (2) years. b. The selected candidate shall not be entitled for any claim for permanent employment in CEB as a result of obtaining his services. c. Any extension of the period of contract will be based solely on the decision of CEB. d. Selected Content Editor, during the period of contract, will be subject to all rules and regulations applicable to CEB employees. e. CEB reserves the right to demand terminating the contract for the services at any time due to poor performance, improper conduct and/or incapability of the selected person to carry out his duties. f. The Editor will function under the Deputy General Manager (Business and Operational Strategy) 3. Qualifications and Skills required for the post A successful candidate for the post is required to possess the following qualifications: 1. Candidate should have excellent writing skills in English and Sinhalese languages. 2. Ability to communicate in Tamil language will be an added qualification. 3. Candidate must have a proven track record in writing/editing articles in English and Sinhala languages. 4. Candidate should be conversant with basic technical jargon used in an electrical utility. 5. Candidate must ideally possess a degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, IT preferred) or Science or Media. 6. Candidate shall be computer literate and experienced in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Web Browsers etc. 7. Qualifications on desktop publishing are a definite advantage. 8. Should be sufficiently knowledgeable about social and cultural norms and legal restrictions of material published in media. 4. Limitations No financial or Administrative authorities are assigned to this post. 5. Contract fee The Monthly Contract fee should be negotiated based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate, subject to a ceiling of Rs 75,000.00: (In addition, the normal EPF contribution made by CEB to staff on contract basis would be applicable) 6. Mode of Selection: Selection would be by an interview. (A written test too may be held if required to ascertain the writing skills of the candidate). 7. Age limit: Below 50 years. Persons above 50 years will be considered when suitable candidates below 50 years of age are not found at the interview. 8. Closing Date: January 21, Terms and Conditions of Service: The appointment will be on contract basis for a two (02) year term. The contract may be extended for a further term depending on the requirement of the service. Page 2 of 5
