1 GALÁPAGOS SAFARI CAMP: A Return to Eden When was the last time you saw something for the first time? July 16 th to the 23 rd, 2016 A Small Group Tour for Alumni, Family and Friends of the University of Wisconsin
2 Dear University of Wisconsin-Madison Alumni, Create lasting memories for your family this summer in the Galápagos Islands: July 16 23, 2016! This wonderful journey will feature delightful nature walks, private yacht excursions to nearby islands, and exotic birds on beautiful beaches. Snorkeling, bicycling, kayaking, child-friendly activities, and the guidance of expert naturalists are included. On these legendary islands 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, the rich abundance of wildlife inspired Charles Darwin to formulate his theory of natural selection. Widely considered the world s most important center for the study of evolution, the Galápagos are home to a unique variety of flora and fauna. Among the spectacular geology of these rugged volcanic islands, we will have the opportunity to observe the Galápagos giant tortoises, flocks of frigate birds and Blue-footed Boobies, Darwin s finches and Galápagos penguins, colonies of marine iguanas and sea lions, along with sea turtles and other fascinating sea life. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with animals found nowhere else on our planet. Our home among the islands will be the Galápagos Safari Camp. The tented camp borders the Galápagos National Park in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island s transition zone, close to the tortoise reserve with magnificent views. The camp s main lodge features a lounge for relaxation, a cozy fireplace, and bar. The dining room serves local and international dishes created by the chef using on-site, farm-grown produce. Nine luxury tents, erected on wooden platforms, are composed of three layers: one to protect against the sun, another against the rain, and an inner canvas shell. Inside they are a spacious 387 square feet, and their en-suite bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets, and custom-made furniture were designed with comfort, practicality, and elegance in mind. All the tents have a large balcony with a hammock and chairs from which to take in the wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean. Travelers wishing to extend their sojourn in South America will have the option of a post-trip extension to the mysterious citadel of Machu Picchu. The extension will also include time in Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire, and the Sacred Valley. Sincerely, Paula Bonner MS 78 President and Chief Alumni Officer Wisconsin Alumni Association
