The machine can get viewed also before the SMT show in our subsidiary Paderborn, it is available only after the show in a configuration of your wish - we also have WPC, MTC etc. available. 2 15 Years ADOPT ADOPT Advanced Optimisation GmbH are celebrating their 15th anniversary this year. Today ADOPT is one of the largest and well-established companies specialized in used equipment for the PCB Assembly Industry. Of course this was not always this way, here a short review: In order to afford his university studies (Mathematics and Computer Sciences) Erhard Hofmann was working part time as a programmer for a company developing software for the automatic generation of placement programs. This company filed for bankruptcy end of Erhard Hofmann decided together with a colleague from the former company to start with their own company. Beginning of 1991 the ADOPT GbR in Freilassing, Germany, was set up and in May 1991 all formalities were finished and also the ADOPT GmbH in Salzburg was set up. The company name stil reflects the start as a software developer - the main product at this time, the software package LP-OPT, did not only generate the placement programs and setup lists but also optimized the placement programs for placement time, collission checks and setup minimisation. This is the origin of the name Advanced Optimisation and the abbreviation of it as a play of words - ADOPT. As a software developing company ADOPT rented rooms at the Salzburg Techno-Z. The idea to offer used machines to the same customers as the software products, came after a first broker business worked out ok: A customer of ADOPT was already using LP-OPT for their Universal axial and DIP inserters. In 1993 this customer was planning to buy in addition a used inserter for radial components and was together with ADOPT already planning to also integrate this machine into the software environment. When they finally got the budget for the inserter - at this time many large companies were organized very inflexible - this machine was already sold to someone else. This was in October 1993, the budget was approved only for this year, the budget planning for the next year was finished, so the company could have invested into another radial inserter only at least 1 1/2 years later if within the remaining two months of 1993 there was not found a replacement. Also ADOPT was informed of this dreadful situation. ADOPT was trying to know the machine park of the potential customers already at the time of offering only software, so after implementing the output processor for another machine type the users of this machine type could get informed. Erhard Hofmann sent a fax to all companies listed in ADOPTs data base as users of Universal radial inserters and asked if they would want to sell a machine. There was one positive feedback, a German company had a few of these inserters in use and wanted to sell one of these. Erhard Hofmann signed a commission agreement with them. The Viennese customer inspected the machine and bought it still in ADOPT-NEWS Page 2 of 20

3 This was the start of the ADOPT Used Equipment Market which was made public first at the SMT show in Nuremberg in At the beginning of the show ADOPT had listed two Wanted and one For Sale entries on a flip chart, after the three days of the show there were over 200 items wanted and for sale. There was an enormous demand for this brokerage service which ADOPT subsequently intensified further. Still in 1994 a warehouse outside of Salzburg was rented because it was not always possible to move all equipment directly from one user to the next user. The new business segment Used Equipment grew rapidly and soon replaced the software as the main business segment. In the process of this new orientation Erhard Hofmann took over the shares of his partner and is since 100% shareholder of ADOPT GmbH. Beginning of 1997 office and warehouse were brought together when ADOPT moved to a new address in Salzburg. The rental agreement was signed for 5 years, at ADOPT everyone thought the room would easily be sufficiant for this period, after all the 490m² were double the combined area occupied before. But already two years later the area was far too small. Many machines had to get stored at two external warehouses. When one of these machines should get shown to a customer it had to be transported from the external warehouse to the workshop, in many cases at the same time another machine had to get moved out of the workshop to make room for this machine. Erhard Hofmann found a solution to these space restrictions in the fall of In Grödig, just outside of the city of Salzburg, he was able to buy one half of a former TV factory where at the best time 1100 people were working. The office moved during the productronica show in November 1999, during the show a stop of the server etc. was least problematic. In spring and summer 2000 the building was essentially renovated, since then ADOPT can use more than 4000m² heated area. Since beginning of 2005 ADOPT is additionally renting two halls with a total of 2600m² only 400m away from the main facility. When moving to Grödig in 1999 ADOPT had 6 employees in Austria, now there are over 30 people working in purchasing and sales, service, logistics and cleaning. Since 1998 ADOPT has in addition a subsidiary in Paderborn, Germany. 4 Our Customers Gebauer was founded in 1978 as a typical southern German one-man company in a basement and already back then developed and produced special purpose machines and customer specific test adapters for the electronics industry. In 1986 the company moved into their own building at today s location in Neuhausen. In addition to the original products Gebauer also started to produce mechanical components for electronic devices, like front panels, fastening angles and enclosures. The logical next step in further developing the company was to start electronics manufacturing itself. The start was done in 1994 by investing in a used Universal SMT line supplied by ADOPT. Already at this time ADOPT did not only work as a broker but also supported Gebauer with setup and installation of the line and training. Parallel to the Manufacturing Services segment also the medical segment was pushed starting in The expertise in the medical department is the development and manufacture of surgery devices for ophthalmology (operations at the eye) like among other instruments and devices for LASIK (laser vision correction). Gebauer has their own product line but also in this segment operates as an OEM developing and manufacturing partner for the medical industry. In the following years Gebauer moved on to become a competent industry partner for Enhanced Electronic Manufacturing Services which means that not only classic PCB assembly jobs are performed but also all mechanical aspects of a product are being taken care of. Over the years Gebauer improved the manufacturing equipment permanently and ADOPT was again the competent partner for this, no matter if it was concerning stand alone machines like wave solder machines or the integration of newer machines like placers and an oven into the existing SMT assembly line. Because of the experience gained for medical products and their development, regulatory approval and manufacturing complying with all relevant legal requirements and quality standards (MPG, EU directives, US-FDA-standards etc.) and because of the high quality level in the electronics manufacturing Gebauer positioned itself over the years more and more as an industry partner for high-class assemblies and devices for the medical industry but also for the areas measurement and testing technology and aerospace. Today Gebauer is a reliable and competent partner for development (electronics and mechanics), engineering and product support, manufacturing and logistics for many customers In order to keep up with Gebauer s demands for quality, production capabilities and production costs the company set up a Fuji SMT line with a Soltec reflow oven in a new hall in beginning of Again the line was purchased from ADOPT. Through precise planning the new line was installed very fast and production was able to resume after a very short down time. With today s production environment Gebauer can handle all popular devices in leaded and lead free technology, in SMT and through hole. 5 Dismantling and Disposal, Hybrid Production We are also offering to our customers to clear out complete production areas including dismantling and disposal of machines. On this page we are showing some devices which we will dismantle at a customer in their production hall on the third floor, we will have to move the machine parts through elevators. The customer has one contact for all the dismantling and transport - ADOPT. The risk which machines will find a second user and which will have to get scrapped lies with ADOPT. If you are interested in devices for the thick film production or for screen manufacturing for this technology then please contact us, we can still organize to see the machines in the production environment during May. The machines are set up for 4x4 ceramic substrates and Koenen type 2 screen frames, we also have a few 100 screen frames available. 6 Spare Parts and Feeder We have more than 280,000 spare parts in stock, partly unused, partly used. You can check on our home page which parts we have in stock and in which state these are, for this select on the homepage Spare Parts from the menu column on the left side. On a new page you will then see a filter and the start of the spare parts list, the first 20 of currently more than 9500 different article numbers. Of course it is not practical to search through all pages to find a certain part, this is why you can use the filter possibilities. The entered words in one field are getting combined with OR, the different fields are combined with AND. The percent sign % can get used as joker for any number of signs. Of course it is the best if you know the article number of the manufacturer, then you can enter this number or a part of it in the first field of the filter and start the search by pressing the button Search for Spare Parts, like shown in this example for Siplace 2x8mm Schulz 1 feeders: If you don t know the article number you can still use the filter, for example you could try it for these feeders by selecting Siemens from the list in the field Manufacturer, selecting Feeder from the list in the field Category and entering 8mm in the field Description. This shows 20 different article numbers including some of feeders which can only get used on older Siemens machines but not on Siplace models. To further narrow the search result you could in addition choose a machine type which the part can get used for. (Attention, mapping parts to machines has only been done for most of the feeders, for spare parts we still have to do most of this classification. So if you don t get a search result using the Machine Type filter please try the search also without using this field.) ADOPT-NEWS Page 6 of 20

7 In order to choose a machine type please first choose a manufacturer like in the example Siemens and then press the button < Fill to the right side of the field Machine Type. After the page gets opened new you can choose a machine type from the list, the list you see after pressing the on the right side of the field Machine Type, for our example for instance SIEMENS -> SIPLACE 80 F3. After pressing Search for Spare Parts you will now see a list of the 14 articles which match the filter, each of them listed with the number we have in stock in the different conditions. Please then contact us for a quote for the number of parts you are interested in. This is the easiest if you are registered on our homepage, then you can mark the wanted parts by checking the check button on the right side and then pressing Add to Request Page on the bottom right side of the page. Then you can us the request page without having to enter your contact data each time. Here is an example for another filter. Remark: the entry in the filter for Descriptions gets used for both the english and the german description with an OR. In this example this helps if you search for the German term Pinole rather than for nozzle sleeve which is not used consistently in the english descriptions of the original manufacturer. You are looking for nozzle sleeves (in German Pinole ) for a 12 nozzle revolving head of a Siplace machine? Here is the matching filter and the search result: In the description there should be the terms Pinole and 12 no matter in which order. 8 Siemens Siplace We are selling our Siplace 80xx machines in overhauled condition and perform installations, service and training from our service locations in Grödig near Salzburg and Paderborn. Machines of the generation S-15/F-3 we are also offering now low cost in as is or running condition without overhauling if the customer wishes so. 10 Philips FCM 1 and FCM 2 Chip Shooter and Assembleon Topaz Xi The FCM machines can place 60,000 or more SMD per hour (theoretical maximum 95,000). By using 16 independant placement modules each of these is traveling relatively slow and therefor very secure. The moving parts (PPU) can be easily dismounted and overhauled offline. Component range: 0402 to SO-16 with standard placement heads, with wide vison modules also larger components can get mounted.
