1 TOBAGO REGIONAL HEALTH AUTHORITY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY The Tobago Regional Health Authority is responsible for the provision of healthcare throughout Tobago. Key services are offered at the Scarborough Regional Hospital, Tobago Emergency Medical Services and Primary Care Health Centres. At this time the Tobago Regional Health Authority is preparing to Commission its new Scarborough General Hospital Facilities, with state of the art technologies that would complement the integrative model of health care that is being rolled out. Once successfully implemented the TRHA would be much closer to actualising its Vision Statement of becoming the premier Health Care Provider. In light of this, the TRHA has engaged in a recruitment drive to fill positions that have been identified as necessary to implement the aforementioned objectives. However, the recruitment initiatives are based on a detailed implementation schedule. The following seeks to provide information on the various positions that the TRHA is seeking to fill. Suitably qualified professionals including nationals residing abroad who are interested in being a part of this experience are invited to apply. Candidates who are experienced in working in a healthcare environment that is undergoing rapid and multifaceted changes towards health service accreditation are especially encouraged to apply. SPECIALIST MEDICAL OFFICER (CONSULTANT) ORTHOPAEDIC, NEPHROLOGY, PATHOLOGY, EMERGENCY MEDICINE The successful candidate is required to lead the team responsible for providing health care services to patients. Duties involve providing emergency and elective care to patients accessing the Scarborough Regional Hospital; supervising the work of junior doctors and developing clinical protocols for the department as part of an integrated treatment team. The conduct of clinical audits would also be part of the duties required. - Training evidenced by a Post Graduate degree in specialist field from an accredited School of Medicine. - At least five years experience in specialist field - Current, full registration as a Medical Practitioner with specialist status in the field of study with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.
2 PAEDIATRIC & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST The successful candidate reports to the Head of Psychiatric Department, Scarborough Regional Hospital and relate to the Paediatric Department, the school system and the probation service in Tobago. The incumbent will be part of the Children & Adolescents Services of Tobago. Caseload will involve assessment and treatment of children and adolescents and their families. Training of staff and others will also form part of the duties required. - Specialist degree in Psychiatry with sub-specialty in Child & Adolescents Psychiatry from a recognized programme - Registration as a Medical Doctor and as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Trinidad & Tobago - Previous experience in a similar post will be an asset REGISTRAR (ANAESTHESIA, OPHTHALMOLOGY, PAEDIATRICS, INTERNAL MEDICINE, ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY) The incumbent will report to the Specialist Medical Officer (Consultant) in the department and will be responsible for administering medical treatment to patients at a Hospital in the specialist field of study. Work entails the conduct of medical procedures, assessments and tests and the evaluation of examinations for diagnoses. Work also involves directing and supervising the work of junior medical officers in the administration of medical treatment of patients. Training evidenced by a Medical Degree from a recognized School of Medicine Minimum five (5) years experience in the specialist field Post-graduate qualifications in this field of study or its equivalent from a recognized institution Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago Any equivalent combination of training and experience MEDICAL OFFICER (PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN) The Medical Officer reports to the General Manager, Primary Care Services, and as part of the primary care team, will be responsible and accountable for providing quality medical care within that setting. Work entails the assessment, diagnosing, treatment, and appropriate referral of clients attending community health facilities. Work also includes visits to homes and schools as part of a multidisciplinary team.
3 The incumbent is also expected to implement preventive procedures for the protection and promotion of a healthy Tobago population. This must be done in compliance with institutional, regional and national guidelines. - Medical degree with Post-graduate Diploma in Family Medicine from an accredited educational institution - A minimum of five (5) years post internship experience - Current full registration with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago - Any equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered PHARMACIST The Pharmacist is responsible for promoting the rational use of prescribed drugs, through the provision of the necessary education and information; providing an adequate controlled supply of prescribed medicines that are safe and effective whilst rendering general assistance in the clinical areas to which they are assigned. - Training as evidenced by the possession of a Degree/Diploma in Pharmacy, from an accredited educational institution - Registration with the Pharmacy Board of Trinidad and Tobago - Practicing certificate for the current year from the Pharmacy Board of Trinidad and Tobago PHARMACY ASSISTANT The Pharmacy Assistant performs pharmacy-related functions, in compliance with department policies and procedures that do not require the professional judgement of the Pharmacist. Some responsibilities include: - Assists the Pharmacist in filling and labelling processed prescriptions - Makes simple dilutions - Receives written prescriptions or refill requests and verify that the information is complete and accurate - Completion of certificate programme as a Pharmacy Assistant from College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago COSTAATT or, other equivalent qualifications from a recognized educational institution - At least one (1) year experience in a hospital environment - Current registration with the Pharmacy Board of Trinidad and Tobago
4 - Knowledge of computer operations - Knowledge of medication brand and generic names MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN III This individual would coordinate Laboratory activities; monitor supplies and give advice to and supervise other Technicians and support Laboratory staff. He/she would also be responsible for the management of quality and safety systems in the Laboratory. Training as evidence by the possession of a Medical Laboratory Technician s Diploma/Associate Degree/Degree from a recognized educational institution, in addition to a minimum of ten years experience in the field of Medical Laboratory Technician Either specialized training with a minimum of five (5) experience in one of the following areas: Medical Microbiology, Immunology, Haematology or Biochemistry Or three (3) to five (5) years experience in any two (2) the areas identified above Knowledge of the use of automated instruments in Medical Laboratory Technology Working knowledge and experience with respect to general Laboratory Management especially as it relates to internationally accepted standards for Quality Management Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN II An individual in this class is responsible for performing difficult and complex laboratory tests in the specialized field of Medical Laboratory Technology. This individual will be responsible for affiliated tasks such as quality control, operator maintenance of equipment, and liaison with Laboratory users and maintenance personnel. Inclusion on the emergency duty roster for weekdays, weekends and public holidays is compulsory. Duties also involve the supervision and training of junior staff. - Training as evidence by the possession of a Medical Laboratory Technician s Diploma/Associate Degree from a recognized educational institution, in addition to a minimum of five years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician. - Specialized training with a minimum of three (3) years experience in Medical Microbiology, Immunology, Haematology or Biochemistry.
5 - Registration as a Laboratory Technician with the Medical Laboratory Board of Trinidad and Tobago. - Working knowledge and experience with respect to International Laboratory Standards. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I The successful candidate is required to perform analytical chemical tests using specialized computerized equipment/technology and is expected to conduct, analyze and report his/her findings independently. Duties must be performed completely, timely and accurately using appropriate methodology. Supervision of support staff is also required. - Training as evidence by the possession of a Medical Laboratory Technician s Diploma/Associate Degree or any equivalent combination of experience and training from a recognized educational institution. - Knowledge of relevant computer applications and automated instruments related to medical laboratory technology activities. - Registration as a Laboratory Technician with the Medical Laboratory Board of Trinidad and Tobago. - Working knowledge and experience with respect to International Laboratory Standards. - Any equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST This job is a full-time position and the incumbent is expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of registered therapists, music therapist and rehabilitation assistants. There is also a sound professional structure and a commitment to CPD and student training. The successful candidate is therefore required to work with colleagues to provide a high quality Occupational Therapy service to patients at the Psychiatric In-patient Unit, Psychiatric Out-patient Clinic in the community. The incumbent will also be required to provide Occupational Therapy work which include; assessment, group therapy and individual interventions. There is close collaboration with other mental health colleagues in the community. Evidence of good interpersonal skills Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy Valid registration in country of origin Valid registration with the Council for Professional Related to Medicine (CPRM) and Trinidad &Tobago Occupational Therapy Association (TTOTA)
6 2-3 years post graduate experience in hospital and community multidisciplinary team, at least one (1) year of which should be in Mental Health. Clinical experience in a range of Mental Health specialties including Adult-in-Patient and Community. (Knowledge of physical specialties would be an asset) Dynamic, able to identify, initiate and facilitate service developments Good communication and negotiation skills Candidates must be physically fit and able to work in a subtropical climate. It is also essential that you wish to work in, and adjust to the culture of a Caribbean Island PHYSIOTHERAPIST The TRHA seeks a full time Physiotherapist to provide physical therapy services for their clients with impairments, functional limitations, or challenges resulting from injury, disease or other causes. This position covers the provision of acute care and outpatient services mainly at the Scarborough Regional Hospital and works closely with all members of the Rehabilitation team. The incumbent will also provide services related to health promotion, prevention and wellness programs within the TRHA and will be expected to work within the standards of practice guidelines as defined by the Physiotherapy Association of Trinidad and Tobago and the Physiotherapists Board of Trinidad and Tobago. CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE - B.Sc. in Physiotherapy from an accredited educational institution. - Possess at least three (3) years experience - Current unrestricted Registration with the Physiotherapists Board, Council of Professions Related to Medicine Trinidad and Tobago. - Current Healthcare provider BLS certification - A valid driver s licence will be an asset BONE DENSITOMETRY TECHNICIAN The Bone Densitometry Technician is responsible for performing bone densitometry imaging of various body parts for diagnostic purposes with the use of a bone densitometer in order to assist in the effective management of patients. The incumbent would also be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the Dual-emission X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) equipment and performing quality control tests on the equipment. - BSc. in Radiography from an accredited educational institution having completed the required clinical rotation/internship period with a minimum of three years functioning as a Radiographer in a clinical environment or Associate s Degree in Radiography from an accredited educational institution with a minimum of eight (8) year s experience in a similar field
7 - Cross training and/or certification in the field of Bone Densitometry - High ethical and professional standards - Mechanical ability and manual dexterity for operating complicated equipment - Sensitivity to patients physical and psychological needs - Registration with the Councils of Profession Related to Medicine (Radiographer s Board) DISTRICT HEALTH VISITOR The District Health Visitor will be responsible for performing advanced community nursing work including the management of the operations of the clinic in the assigned district health facility. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Identifying health needs of the community - Directing the activity of the Health District and implement the operational plans/ programmes for the Health District - Maintaining surveillance on children according to policy guideline procedures - Conducting age appropriate health education at clinic sessions, schools, homes, work places and to community groups on lifestyles and environmental practices - Visiting homes to attend to antenatal and post-natal cases, child welfare and other cases - Preparing monthly reports and maintaining case records CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE: - Diploma in District Health Visiting - BSc. Degree in Nursing from an accredited educational institution - Licensed Midwife - At least five (5) years midwifery experience - Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago DISTRICT NURSE The District Nurse will be responsible for performing advanced community nursing work including the management of selected clinics and domiciliary nursing service in the assigned district health facility. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Identifying health needs of the community and makes appropriate intervention - Participating in health surveillance/ non communicable diseases - Conducts pre and post natal clinic activity in the district - Health education at clinics, schools, groups - Executes home visits with emphasis on antennal, postnatal women and family CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE - A Nursing degree from an accredited educational institution - Licensed Midwife
8 - At least five (5) years midwifery experience - Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago REGISTERED NURSE (Specialised in the areas of Dialysis, ICU, Trauma or Midwifery) The Registered Nurse/ Licensed Midwife will be required to perform professional nursing duties in the field of obstetrics and midwifery by ensuring safe, effective and quality care to clients. The successful candidate is required to provide professional nursing care to patient through assessment of patient health problems and needs, developing and implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining patient records. CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE - A nursing degree from an accredited educational institution - Post-basic training in a sub-speciality field - Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago ENROLLED NURSING ASSISTANT (Hospital & Community Services) The successful candidate is required to provide professional, non-technical nursing care to patients under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Candidates wishing to work in the Community Services must be prepared to work shifts, given the Authority s thrust to offer extended service. CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE - Nursing Assistant Certification from an accredited educational institution - Post-basic training in sub-speciality field will be an asset - Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - BASIC The Emergency Medical Technician would respond to emergency calls from the public and be responsible for administering pre-hospital care based on set protocols and their assessment of the clients. Applicants must be between years old and must be in possession of a valid Heavy- T license (Class 4). - Possession of current Emergency Medical Technician s - Basic Certification from a recognized institution (within the two (2) year certification period)
9 - Must be in excellent physical condition, for which validation by a medical fitness report, no older than three (3) months, is required. - A police certificate of good character no longer than three (3) months. - Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) - Experience in the field would be an asset - National Registry Certification (NREMT) would be an asset HEALTH RECORDS TECHNICIAN Reporting to the Supervisor of Health Records, this job involves highly confidential, detailed work and includes but is not limited to analysing, reviewing, abstracting and coding of medical records. The successful candidates would also be responsible for the accurate and timely transcription of clinical dictation. The successful incumbents must be able to produce high quality work in accordance with established standards, and work well in a team based environment. He/she must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, excellent interpersonal, customer service, organizational and time management skills and proven problem solving abilities. - Diploma/Certificate in Health Records Technology - Certificate in Medical Transcription from a recognized institution. - Minimum CXC five (5) O Levels (grades 1 or 2). English is compulsory - Certification in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and Access and ability to apply same. - Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Medical Abbreviations - Knowledge of medical records classification systems such as International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) is an asset. - Minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute - Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Health Record Technician or Medical Transcriptionist in another health care environment OR - Minimum of 3 years clerical/secretarial experience in a fast paced shift environment - Experience in a Data Entry environment that required attention to detail - Willing to be trained as a Health Record Technician - Any relevant combination of training and experience SOCIAL WORK ASSISTANT The Social Work Assistant will work along with a registered Social Worker in carrying out their duties within the community, hospitals, and other appropriate settings. The incumbent will be expected to keeps records of each client s progress and may perform more direct functions like scheduling counselling sessions, arranging social activities and participating in associated meeting.
