10 Our Control Systems Ensure Uninterrupted Operation Our smart technology power transfer equipment includes small automatic transfer switches, IEC-certified GTEC and UL-listed OTEC, and larger switches, OTPC and BTPC. Combining reliability and flexibility in a compact, economical package, the small switches are ideal for use in limited space applications such as cell towers, whilst the larger units are designed for use in regional switching facilities or power system hubs. Within our control systems for small sites, microprocessors monitor utility and emergency standby generator power. When utility power fails or is unsatisfactory, the control starts the generator, and then transfers the load from the utility to the generator. When stable utility power returns, the switch automatically transfers the load back to the utility. For large and complex sites operating multiple gensets, we have developed a range of PowerCommand paralleling systems which use Digital MasterControls (DMC) to interface directly with PowerComand generator sets. 10

Standby Power Tour Evasion 2000 Business location: Via an 85-meter tall skyscraper in Paris, Tour Evasion 2000 serves residential telecoms customers across the French capital. Operational need: With a vital part of renovation plans for their skyscraper cell tower involving the development and installation of a new standby power system, Tour Evasion 2000 needed a manufacturer and supplier who could work to the exacting specifications of their challenging site. Prime Power Asiacell Business location: Asiacell is the largest telecoms company in Iraq, and the only national Iraqi provider to deliver coverage throughout most of the country s provinces. Operational need: Following its successful 2007 bid for a 15-year national GSM license, Asiacell needed to expand its mobile phone network not only into cities but also more remote regions with challenging climatic conditions, including Erbi and Sulymaniyah, north of Iraq. 750 enclosed generator sets with models ranging from C15 to C38 were required every year to deliver an uninterrupted prime power supply to a total of 8,000 communications towers. The sets were supplied together with system controls, transfer switches and paralleling systems. Operational need: Moving to a new head office occupying the 24th to 32nd floors of a prominent Bangkok building, with a generator room on the 10th floor, posed a real challenge in terms of the delivery and installation of a new power system. Especially as that system had to include power electronics, round the clock after sales support and be linked into the company s operations network site across the capital in Srinakarin. Operational need: When a massive Northeast blackout affected more than 50 million people and shut down communications, transportation and businesses from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic, the on-site standby power systems we d installed in more than 300 Verizon Wireless cell antenna sites meant they could carry on with business as usual.
