1 New generation data centre: SDMO provides the site with security of electricity supply The new Interxion data centre in Saint-Denis, Paris In Saint-Denis on the edge of Paris, the European market leader in colocation, data centres and managed services has a new highly secure infrastructure which provides answers to its clients issues regarding security, electricity supply and connectivity. This «new generation» data centre is an impressive storage bunker which is more reliable and more energy efficient than the previous generation. Strategically located close to one of the major European financial markets, this centre is the first to distribute medium voltage electricity (20,000 Volts) inside the building. Its 4,200m² of hosting space is equipped with the latest technologies and has over 2,000 Watts per m² of electrical power capacity. To meet the exacting reliability demands imposed by its clients and to avoid any interruption to the service, including during periods of site maintenance or development, the centre is equipped with an electricity power plant consisting of 4 SDMO 3,025 kva generating sets. Redundancy of the UPSs, the cooling systems and the generating sets provides the site with optimum security, in the same way as the EDF dual supply system. Note: the 4 generating sets can be increased to 7 in line with the growth of power consumption at the site. An SDMO emergency generating set for a data centre in the heart of Sydney The head office of the KAZ Group, a leader in the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) market, is located in the heart of Sydney, Australia. This building and its data centre, which are located on the same site, benefit from an SDMO emergency generating set. The 450 kva generating set within a soundproof enclosure is equipped with a Volvo TAD1631GE motor and a Leroy Somer LSA472M7 alternator. The sound level of the genset is 7 metres. It has an extra fuel tank giving it more than 10 hours of autonomous running time with the ability to refill from level 0 of the building. 2 From 2012, the Basalte Tower will be home to one of the largest trading rooms in Europe An SDMO power plant at the heart of one of the largest trading rooms in Europe To meet the demands of expansion, SOCIETE GENERALE, one of the largest and oldest banks in France, is currently building a new 43,000m2 tower in the La Défense business district in Paris. Called the Basalte Tower, from 2012 it will be home to 3,500 employees and will become one of the largest trading rooms in Europe. It will be equipped with an emergency electricity power plant made up of SDMO generating sets. As far as data centres and the company Société Générale are concerned, SDMO is no debutant! Completed in 1995, the old «Chassagne» and «Alicante» towers are equipped with 4 SDMO generating sets of 3,125 kva with temporary grid coupling, and 2 x 600 kva gensets as backup and to provide peak-shaving power to the 8 floors of the underground car park. The «Granite» tower, operational since 2008, has 3 SDMO 2500 kva generating sets for the offices and a 650 kva emergency genset for the underground car park. Following the example of neighbouring towers, the «Basalte» tower will have an emergency power plant which, in the event of the main power supply being cut, will be able to supply the trading rooms which are connected 24H/24 and 365 days per year to the world s financial markets. The prestigious «Basalte» project is being carried out using the HEQ approach (High Environmental Quality): implemented from the building contract stage, this approach makes buildings more environmentally friendly than their contemporaries, in particular by stressing the importance of comfort, air quality, hygrometry and by encouraging energy efficiency. The electricity power plant is made up of 6 x 2500C type interconnected generating sets, each with a unit power rating of 2,500 kva. These gensets are equipped with an MTU 16V4000G63 motor and a Leroy Somer LSA53S75 single-bearing alternator. Each genset has dual start-up (electric and pneumatic). Find out more The HEQ (High Environmental Quality) approach aims to minimize the impact of construction or renovation on the environment at the same time as ensuring conditions inside the building are healthy and comfortable. The approach has 14 target areas (detailed in the Environmental Quality in Construction standard): - Eco-construction targets (harmonious relationship between the building and its environment, selection of construction materials and processes, etc.) - Eco-management targets (energy, water, waste management, etc.) - Comfort targets (hygrothermic, acoustic, visual and olfactory comfort) - Health targets (sanitary quality of building spaces, air and water) «Data Centers : Computer data security at the heart of today s strategic challenges» Page 3/9

3 16 x 2,000 kva: an ultra-secure emergency power plant for a data centre in England! Whereas most critical sites generally opt for an n+1 or even n+2 generating set redundancy system such that, during downtime (e.g. maintenance operations), the site will still have all the power it requires, the system chosen for this power plant is 2(n+1)! This power plant is typical of the level of security required in the banking sector. The site is split into 2 half-plants made up of 4 busbars in each of the 2 generating sets, interconnected by motorised circuit breakers. The total installed power (16 x 2,000 kva) is 2.5 times greater than the power required, which once again demonstrates the importance of the electricity supply in this type of application. The output voltage is 11 kv. In England, 2 half-plants of 4 x 2,000 kva for a large American bank In England, one of the biggest players in the banking sector called in SDMO (or to be precise, its UK subsidiary SDMO Energy Ltd) to equip its premises with emergency generating sets, in order to combat any interruptions from the national grid and thereby to make safe its data recording and access system. The company, located in West London, has 2 half-plants of 4 SDMO generating sets of 2,000 kva (1,600 kw) placed in soundproof containers. The acoustic treatment of the installation followed a detailed study to achieve a particularly low sound level: 69 1 metre. The gensets are equipped with an MTU 16V4000 motor and a Leroy Somer LSA 51.2M60 alternator. Automated operation is provided by Kerys Tactil control cabinets for coupling the two half-plants together. In the event of a power cut, if there is a problem with the first half-plant, the second is therefore able to provide the site s electrical power (redundancy operation). The assignment required the deployment of significant resources, both in engineering and production terms (e.g. alternator sizing calculated in line with the distorted loads from the UPSs and the creation of a special test bench). The particularly advanced client specifications focussed on the area of automatic control: the low voltage panel, specially fitted by the manufacturer in the SDMO factory, and the Kerys Tactil cabinets were subjected to exhaustive testing to ensure the system s reliability. «Data Centers : Computer data security at the heart of today s strategic challenges» Page 4/9

The company s emergency centres make use of facilities and equipment with increasingly high levels of performance: secure computer rooms, state of the art equipment, fibre optic connections, redundant UPSs and generating sets, etc. The global market leader in information services and technologies has fitted its data centres with systems capable of meeting today s strategic challenges in the area of operational business continuity: emergency electricity power plants to combat potential power cuts. IBM called in SDMO to supply the power plants, but also because of the quality of its advisory and engineering services. During the expansion of its site in Collégien in Paris, the company purchased an SDMO emergency power plant equipped with 3 type X1850C generating sets in concrete containers, renowned for their excellent performance in terms of noise level, durability and on-site integratability (see photo above). In Montpellier, the SDMO power plant is made up of 4 x 1,500 kva and 3 x 1,000 kva generating sets placed in soundproof containers fitted with a step-up transformer and a grid coupling system (see photo below). 5 United Kingdom: 4 x 2,750 kva at a large investment bank The data centre of a large American investment bank located in the south of the British capital has an electricity power plant made up of 4 SDMO generating sets of 2,750 kva. The generating sets installed in a soundproof container (ISO 45 High Cube) have an extremely low sound level (70 1 metre). They are fitted with an MTU 20V4000 motor and a Leroy Somer 53 UL 9 (11 kv) alternator. Control functions are provided by Kerys Tactil cabinets enabling the gensets to be synchronised giving a total power output of 11,000 kva, which will safeguard the data centre in the event of a power cut from the national grid. This vast project allows for the future expansion of the power plant to include 8 identical generating sets. 5 x 2,500 kva of emergency power in Paris for a data processing centre for a subsidiary of the BNP Paribas Group In Paris, the data processing centre for one of the subsidiaries of the BNP Paribas Group is equipped with an SDMO emergency electricity power plant. The installation of the plant was carried out without cutting the power supply to the computer rooms. The 1,250m2 computer processing area and an office area are safeguarded by the power plant. It is made up of 5 x 2,750 kva generating sets (of which one operates redundantly with the other 4) with temporary coupling to the grid: in the absence of power supplied from EDF, the order to start-up the plant is given to the generating sets and backup is provided within the next 15 seconds. The generating sets are fitted with an MTU 20V4000 motor and a Leroy Somer alternator. 6 Sultanate of Oman: 2 x 375 kva for the Central Bank of Oman High technology and greater security! 20 x 2,000 kva at the new data centres of the largest French banking group In 2010, Crédit Agricole Immobilier, as the nominated client for the CREDIT AGRICOLE S.A. Group, began the construction of a double computer centre «Diderot and d Alembert», made up of 2 sites located in Mainvilliers and Fontaine Le Guyon, on the edge of the city of Chartres, France. Each with a surface area of 14,000m2, these centres will host Crédit Agricole s large central computer systems which are currently distributed over several sites in France and abroad. The safeguarding of the electricity supply to these sites has been provided by the installation of SDMO emergency power plants. In the first phase, each site was equipped with 2 x 2,200 kva generating sets with 15 kv high-voltage supply coupling (and the ability to change to 20 kv). During the second phase, these power plants will be expanded to include 5 x 2,200 kva generating sets. The modular and extendable architecture selected when designing the site guarantees improved energy efficiency, greater control of operational dangers and optimisation of costs.
