3 Leadership Development Program Office of Student Leadership About the Program The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement strives to assist UNCW students in building their capacity to both lead and follow. Using the Social Change Model, Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Model, and Relational Leadership Model, the Leadership Development Program is a three phase co-curricular, self-designed, adaptable program designed to give students autonomy in navigating their leadership development to meet their personal interests and career ambitions. Through cognitive (thinking) and applied (doing) experiences, students will increase their awareness of self, others, and the community. Student Engagement Students need to obtain experiences in the thinking category and experiences in the doing category in order to fulfill each phase of the model. Students will need to complete a worksheet highlighting their experiences, including dates and contact information; they will also create an artifact (paper, video, photographic exhibit, infographic, etc.) to express their development through that phase. Celebrating Development After students engage in the required experiences of a phase and submit their reflective artifact, the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement will review their materials and, if satisfactory, students will receive a notification recognizing their accomplishment and celebrating their engagement in the respective phase. If students complete all three phases of the Leadership Development Program, they will be invited to a special celebration event hosted by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement 2
