Here I have the opportunity to pursue my passion in a very interesting and thought-provoking course. It encourages you to think deeply about contemporary issues in a domestic and international context in a way you probably haven t before. 16 Law Medicine Nursing and Midwifery Jacqui Leach BACHELOR OF NURSING (ADVANCED) DEAN S SCHOLAR Law degrees are global in outlook and integrate academic content with professional skill development experiences such as mooting, legal drafting, court advocacy, client advising, alternative dispute resolution role plays (legal negotiation, mediation and arbitration), and clinical legal placements. Law programs are offered at the Campbelltown and Parramatta campuses. Both offer excellent facilities, including moot courts for practising advocacy skills, a comprehensive library and computer-based law research facilities. In 2017, you will have even more options to combine your studies with another degree and work alongside practising solicitors at the Parramatta Community Justice Clinic. Career opportunities In our Law programs, special emphasis is placed on professional legal skills. Based on a curriculum that is tailored to the Western Sydney context as well as providing opportunities to experience rural medical practice, the program offers problem-based learning with intensive clinical practice and leading research. You will learn skills using state-of-the-art equipment and learning spaces, including a new technologically-enhanced anatomy laboratory, and clinical schools located at hospitals and community services in Western Sydney and across NSW. Graduates are eligible for registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and may be able to apply for registration in overseas countries. Career opportunities Medical graduates have a huge variety of careers open to them, including medical clinical practice (general or specialist), medical research, teaching or administration, or a combination of these. Most medical graduates undertake further postgraduate vocational training before starting independent practice in their chosen area. In NSW, internships are administered by the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI), or by equivalent organisations in other states and territories. Our undergraduate courses are designed with the vision of preparing graduates for work into the future, making a difference to the lives of people, especially those in the Western Sydney region. All courses are underpinned by a primary health care philosophy supported by a flexible learning approach throughout the course. The curriculum includes high-quality, evidence-based studies, emphasising a balance of theory, clinical practice and interdisciplinary learning to prepare you for work in the nursing and midwifery sectors. We are internationally known for producing nursing and midwifery graduates who enjoy very high employment rates, particularly in the Western Sydney region. Career opportunities As a nursing graduate, you may work in acute care hospitals, aged care services, child and adolescent health, community health, medical practice nursing, disability services, emergency or trauma units, justice health, mental health services, forensics, drug and alcohol, occupational health, oncology, operating theatres, palliative care, rehabilitation services, nursing education and health administration. Registered midwives may work in a range of maternity areas within community settings and private and public hospitals in metropolitan, rural and remote areas. These include: midwifery group practice, team midwifery, caseload midwifery, homebirth, birth centres, antenatal clinics, postal wards, birthing units, postnatal clinics, community midwifery services and midwives also work in policy, research, education and management. A Bachelor of Nursing is opening the door to my next career as a Registered Nurse. I m passionate about making a difference to rural and remote health and completing this degree will help me follow my dream. I encourage you to do the same. 17 Online degrees Policing and Criminology Psychology Sciences Social Sciences Teaching and Education will offer a selection of online degrees in These degrees provide you with the opportunity to study online from anywhere, at any time, while still accessing all the support you need to succeed in your studies. Career opportunities If you are interested in a career in urban, social or cultural planning, the Bachelor of Planning pathway to the Master of Urban Management and Planning is for you. Now you can tailor your studies to your specific goals by combining more degrees. In 2017, the University will also offer a Bachelor of Data Science. This unique degree can be taken in combination with any Bachelor degree. For example, you may choose to combine your Bachelor of Business degree with an Applied Leadership and Critical Thinking degree, or Arts, or Communication, or Information and Communications Technology, or International Studies, or Law, or Science. The choice is yours. The Bachelor of Data Science combines your choice of Bachelor degree with a focus on mathematics, statistics and computing. Graduates will know how to embark on data driven investigations, and conduct visual and computational analytics for application in their own primary research. Note, the Bachelor of Data Science is not a stand-alone degree. It can only be taken in combination with an existing Bachelor degree.
