Bloustei School of Plaig ad Public Policy serves as oe of the atio s key ceters for the theory ad practice of plaig ad public policy scholarship ad aalysis. As part of Rutgers, The State Uiversity of New Jersey, the school capitalizes o the stregths ad resources of a major research uiversity. The Bloustei School reaches out to the larger world, beyod the realm of academe, to cotribute to regioal, atioal, ad iteratioal commuities. Edward J. THE PROGRAM IN PUBLIC POLICY The Bloustei School is cosistetly raked amog the top policy ad plaig programs i the coutry. Faculty of the Program i Public Policy are atioally ad iteratioally reowed scholars who are actively ivolved i shapig the fields of commuity developmet, social policy, educatio, eviromet, health policy, trasportatio, ad workforce developmet. The faculty s cuttig-edge research ad policy work are augmeted by the umerous research ceters withi the school, providig a rich, vibrat learig eviromet. The select group of studets admitted ito the Master of Public Policy ad Master of Public Affairs ad Politics programs ca take advatage of all the courses offered by the Plaig ad Doctoral programs at the Bloustei School, as well as the hudreds of courses offered elsewhere at Rutgers Uiversity. The Program i Public Policy also admiisters a ew udergraduate major i public policy; masters studets ofte work as teachig assistats i udergraduate courses. 4 MASTER OF PUBLIC POLICY (MPP) The Master of Public Policy (MPP) program is typically a two-year degree for full-time studets. Studets must complete 48 credits, icludig 30 credits of required course work ad 18 elective credits. The Bloustei School s MPP program is oe of oly 11 programs i public policy accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, ad Admiistratio, the global stadard i public service educatio. NASPAA accreditatio recogizes that a master s program i public affairs, admiistratio, or policy meets a set of stadards regardig curriculum, admiistratio, missio, studet admissios, faculty quality, studet services ad placemet, ad facilities. There is o more excitig time to be eterig public service as vigorous debates are uder way i a wide variety of policy areas. May of our studets wat to take part i those debates ad come to the Bloustei School hopig to make the world a better place. We are here to help them do so. Cocetratios As part of the elective selectios, studets must develop a three-course (9-credit) cocetratio i a substative policy area. The Bloustei faculty is recogized for its policy expertise i commuity developmet ad social policy, alog with the other areas of cocetratio. Studets also may desig their ow cocetratios, ad do so frequetly. 6 Alliso Harris MPP 2006 PhD studet i political sciece, Uiversity of Chicago Oe of the best parts of beig at the Bloustei School was the close relatioship I developed with faculty members, who are leaders i their fields yet very accessible ad supportive of the studets. It is through these relatioships that I was able to fid out about both of the jobs that I have had sice graduatig. It is also because of these relatioships that I am i the doctoral program i political sciece. I may ever have cosidered furtherig my educatio i this way if ot for the Bloustei faculty members who ispired ad believed i me. Leah Apgar MPP 2007 Loa Officer, New Jersey Commuity Capital, Treto, NJ I chose the Bloustei School because of the quality of both its curriculum ad faculty. I really liked the opportuity to work closely with that faculty ad the iteractive ature of the courses. Few of the professors rely primarily o lectures: the classes iclude extesive discussios to facilitate the learig process, as well as field visits ad talks by practitioers, to make the kowledge very practical. Oe of my favorite memories was a class visit to Bethex Federal Credit Uio, where we leared about its partership with a check-cashig service, i order to brig low-icome idividuals i the Brox access to basic fiacial services.

7 MASTER OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND POLITICS (MPAP) The Master of Public Affairs ad Politics (MPAP) degree is a 30-credit program desiged for studets with sigificat work experiece i public affairs ad politics (geerally at least five years). The MPAP is typically a oe-year degree for full-time studets, but studets also may pursue it o a part-time basis. The Bloustei School emphasizes experietial learig, which eables studets to lear by participatig i a practicum ad high-level itership rather tha completig a graduate thesis. My experiece at Bloustei gave me a foudatio of skills that ow eables me to fulfill my role as a cetral baker, a career step that exceeded my expectatios for my graduate school experiece. Jessica Godofsky Starace MPP 2011 Research Assistat, Priceto Survey Research Associates Iteratioal (PSRAI), Priceto, NJ I was fortuate to have had the opportuity to work parttime at the school s Joh J. Heldrich Ceter for Workforce Developmet while attedig school full-time. As a graduate research assistat, I directed public opiio surveys ad co-authored reports with professors Carl Va Hor ad Cliff Zuki o the impact of the ecoomic dowtur o Americas who became uemployed durig the recessio, ad o recet college graduates first full-time jobs ad their perceived value of the college experiece. Both studies were widely covered i the atioal media, icludig the frot page of the New York Times, the Huffigto Post, Time, NBC, CBS, ad Forbes. It was a ivaluable experiece to participate i the research process from start to fiish, as well as beefit from a icredible resume builder ad coversatio starter whe etworkig.

I ejoyed the camaraderie with the other studets, ad the course selectio is varied eough to support a wide rage of policy iterests. I also valued the opportuity to develop a persoalized course of study ad to work at three differet research ceters, each of which afforded me valuable ew isight ito data collectio ad aalysis, both of which are critical skills i my curret job. The diversity of ideas amog my fellow studets was a importat aspect of the MPP program. My classmates came from various backgrouds, thus holdig passioate viewpoits o a wide rage of policy issues. The result was always a spirited debate that expaded my ow perspectives o differet issues.

11 MASTER OF PUBLIC POLICY/MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MPP/MBA) This program leads to completio of both Master of Public Policy ad Master of Busiess Admiistratio degrees i three years. The program icludes a year ad a half studyig busiess at Rutgers Busiess School i Newark ad a year ad a half studyig policy at the Bloustei School. MASTER OF PUBLIC POLICY/ BACHELOR OF ARTS OR SCIENCES (MPP/BA or MPP/BS) This program leads to completio of both the Bachelor of Arts or Scieces ad Master of Public Policy degrees i five years. Studets may apply for admissio to the joit program i February of their juior year. Admitted studets are allowed to take up to 18 graduate credits i the Program i Public Policy over the course of their seior year; these credits are applied to both degrees. Upo completio of the BA or BS degree, studets advace ito the secod year of the MPP program. 15 OUTREACH I additio to offerig cotiuig educatio courses, techical assistace services, studet field placemets, iterships, ad various lecture series, the Bloustei School hosts iteratioal studets through several exchage programs, icludig the Uiversity of Kostaz i Germay ad the Bartlett School of Plaig at Uiversity College Lodo. The Korea Scholars Program, a partership with the prestigious Korea Developmet Istitute, allows scholars to achieve a oe-year plaig degree as part of their global master s course.
