Research Leadership I have been a team leader and principal investigator in a number of externally funded and sponsored research projects in different countries. My research interests and experience include the following areas: renewable/sustainable/clean energy systems, solar water and space heating and cooling systems, solar power generation, heat pumps, combustion engines, and fuel cell based mini-cogeneration (CHP), integrated hybrid - fossil fuel-renewable -energy systems, energy analysis and energy management in buildings and industry, 4
5 simulation and design of thermal and energy systems, sensible and latent heat storage at middle and high temperatures, ultra-supercritical steam power plants, condensing boilers, energy and environment, eco-friendly coal combustion in circulating and pressurized fluidized bed. Most of my research projects were externally funded and sponsored by means of grants and awards provided by Russian and Ukrainian Academies of Sciences, Energy Ministry of Russia, Energy Ministry of Ukraine, Ministry of Minerals and Energy of Botswana, German Ministry of Research and Development, and EC funds. At the SRM University (India), I initiated development and installation of a large-scale solar energy research project that was sponsored by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of India. In collaboration with Thermax (Pune), I contributed to the development of a high-temperature solar system using solar parabolic dish concentrators for generating steam for process heat applications such as cooking and AC. The plant has been functioning well since It is also being used for experimental studies including B.Tech. and M.Tech. students projects. Similar solar concentrating systems have been also used for space air conditioning. 10 INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND EXCHANGE PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS AND FACULTY MEMBERS I have strongly contributed to International Cooperation and Exchange Programs between Universities in Germany and other EU countries and SRM University in Chennai, India, and University of Botswana. I facilitated signing several MoUs, and a number of SRM students spent 1-2 semesters at EU Universities with my support and guidance.
