This construction ensures that the system is very resilient in all kinds of weather conditions. The FRT Linear Fresnel Mirror element stands out because of its stability and durability against several kinds of forces, such as wind, weather damage and the impact of salty air (in coastal regions). Furthermore, no cost-intensive substructure is needed. 5 ISCC more efficiency, less emission» When employing FRT Collectors, power companies decrease their power plants emission while simultaneously increasing their electricity production and efficiency, producing reliable and renewable energy at peak periods.«boosting plant efficiency A gas turbine s power efficiency highly depends on the ambient temperature. This is especially the case in regions with sun intensive climate conditions. When the gas turbine s efficiency decreases during the hot summer months, the power plant s efficiency goes down. Connecting FRT Collectors to the CC plant will significantly increase the plant s efficiency, which will result in improved revenues and margins due to the extra electricity produced by the solar field. Solar energy after sundown In order to fulfill the energy demands after sunset, a heat storage system can be connected to the FRT Solar Field. The heat storage system continues to supply heat for a predefined time so that solar energy can be used to generate electricity even during the evening hours. That means that the FRT Solar Field is oversized, so that some portion of the heat is not fed into the plant s circuit but directed into the storage facility. After sunset, it is delivered into the ISCC s circuit and can thereby increase the energy production time of the solar field. Thanks to the flexible use of receivers and the FRT Collector, Feranova CSP Systems can store solar heat up to a temperature of 550 C (1022 F), which is significantly higher than the solar heat temperature stored by parabolic trough systems. Since the storage medium allows for higher temperatures, more heat can be captured with the same amount of medium, which again increases the heat storage s efficiency while also reducing storage costs. Leveraging market conditions The electricity prices fluctuate in many markets. This is often caused by the fact that not all power plants operate at a constant level. In the Turkish electricity market, for example, prices are higher during the summer period due to the many hydro power plants that are operated. They do not produce as much energy during the drier summer months and hence there is less electricity available. The FRT Collectors have their maximum production output during this time because the sun s intensity is the highest then. The electricity prices follow a similar pattern as the solar energy output, both having similar peak periods. The solar energy can be especially leveraged due to these market conditions. During the summer months, the solar field can be operated at optimum profitability levels. 6 Welcome to the future The Fully Integrated Solar Power Plant One of the ever growing challenges of our time is the shortage of resources, especially of energy, food and drinking water. Countries that are particularly impacted by these shortages are often located in those areas where there is high solar irradiation. The abundance of sun results in a lack of drinking water and the fields being too dry for a sufficient cultivation. Often, those regions lack reliable sources of energy. Feranova has the vision of making all of these resources accessible in those regions where they are needed the most. These projects are referred to as the Fully Integrated Solar Power Plant. It provides solar energy with the help of the FRT Collectors. Their substructure is elevated so that there is enough space for agricultural machinery to be operated underneath them. Due to the mirrors and their movements during the course of the day, approximately 30 percent of the sun reaches the ground. This intensity of sun does not harm the growth of corps anymore. It is enough sun to operate a greenhouse underneath the FRT Collectors. Here, vegetables such as tomatoes and other plants can be grown. Hence, the FRT Collectors become a true solar field. A water desalination system can be connected to the collectors. After being desalinated, the water is used for the watering of the plants inside the greenhouse or it can be even further purified in order to have drinking water.
