3 CENTRAL NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY COLLEGE ASSESSMENT REPORT Part II Action Plan & Assessment Plan Update The purpose of this form is to provide a written summary of your assessment action plan for the designated assessment cycle and provide an updated assessment cycle plan for the current 5-year cycle Fall 2012, Spring 2013, Summer /30/13 (Report Period) (Date Report Submitted) Melanie Upshaw/ mupshaw@cnm.edu/ ext (Contact Person/ /phone) Indicate ONE of the following 3 areas for this assessment report and insert the name of the general education area, certificate, degree or discipline on the appropriate line: See definitions for each category in Assessment Process document Gen Ed Area (see definitions) or Program Dental Assistant AA/AS Certificate X AA/AS Or Discipline Area (see definitions) Data Results Period upon which this Action Plan is based (period which ended 8/09/13): These four tools were used to measure the first three exit competencies for the Dental Assistant program: Results for the Final Radiology Exam met our criteria with a mean average. 11 students fell below our threshold of 71% on the exam but passed the overall course. Results for the Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation meet our criteria with a mean average. No students were below our threshold of 71%. Results for the Dental Administration and Communications course meet our criteria with an mean average. No students were below the 71% threshold. Results for the Practical Application of Dental Materials course meet our criteria with an mean average. 4 remaining data is collected the other 2 exit competencies will be measured and a revised action plan can be formulated. Action Plan (close the loop): Currently, the program is meeting its criteria. We will continue to measure the dental administration and communications course as a direct internal tool, the practical applications course as a direct internal tool and the comprehensive clinical evaluation which utilizes both direct external and direct internal measurement tools. We will be re-evaluating the final radiology exam and will either align it with a more comprehensive assessment based on the standards outlined in the Dental Assisting National Board or develop a more summative objective tool. The current tool is a formative tool that is subjective to the instructor. ASSESSEMENT PLAN The assessment plan includes three parts: 1. The plan description (This should be a brief written description of the assessment plan(s) for the area/certificate/degree/discipline. If all outcomes are not shown in item #3 below as assessed in the 5 year cycle, this description must include information about their eventual assessment 2. The student learning outcomes for the area/program/discipline for the 5 year cycle. 3. The assessment cycle timeline 1 Plan Description: Currently a special topics course was offered in the summer of students of the 21 enrolled in the program signed up for this elective course. This course aligns with all of the program exit competencies and could serve as a capstone course if it continues to be received favorable by the students. Formative assessments will continue to be on going but this course could be used as an indicator of success on the DANB. The final exam is an old DANB exam that has been released. The final exam is computerized and offered through Blackboard to the students in a classroom with a 2 hour time limit. 2 Provide the list of current student learning outcomes for this area or program (you may add more lines if necessary by right clicking and choosing insert row below): 1 Comprehend, apply and evaluate diagnostic data related to patient information. 2 Perform a variety of clinical supportive treatments. 3 Perform laboratory procedures and basic business office procedures. 4 Exhibit behaviors consistent with professional and employer expectations 5 Demonstrate continual growth and development of a trained professional who is committed to the dental industry by participation in professional organizations and educational activities Assessment Report Page 2 of 3 4/17/2012
