1 SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2013 Scholarship Requirements & Information Scholarship Name Scholarship Description & Requirements Alpenglow Music Scholarship Alpine Bank Hispanic Scholarship Applicant must be planning to study music as his/her prime subject at a recognized college or institution; consideration will be given to a student planning a career in education and where the study of music might be a secondary subject. The award of $1,500 will be made on the basis of merit. Successful recipient will be expected to write a brief report on progress midway through the first year. An essay of no more that 1 ½ pages describing why the student wants to pursue musical studies, his/her goals, and why he/she is deserving of the award. Please provide (4) copies of complete application packet. REQUEST ADDENDUM Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0, and have applied to and been accepted at CMC for full time study, and demonstrated financial need. A personal letter describing personal qualifications, need for scholarship, and educational goals for the future is required. The applicant also must provide two letters of recommendation. MUST BE U.S. CITIZEN OR PERMANENT RESIDENT / ELIGIBLE NON-CITIZEN. Alpine Bank 4-Year Scholarship For Business Administration Alpine Bank of Summit County is establishing this scholarship to remove the financial barriers and honor the academic achievement of a Summit High School graduate pursuing his/her baccalaureate education at Colorado Mountain College. Recognizing that a bachelor s degree can lead to a superior career, and builds a stronger community workforce, the Alpine Bank 4-Year Scholarship will cover the full cost for 4 years of in-district tuition, books, and fees to a student who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration at the Summit Campus of Colorado Mountain College. Eligibility. Eligible applicants must be enrolled full-time and planning to pursue a B.S in Business Administration degree at Colorado Mountain College at the Summit Campus (Breckenridge or Dillon) and be Summit County residents. GPA Requirement: Qualifying students must have at least a 3.0 GPA. The freshman award will be renewable each year, for three (3) additional years, based on the student remaining at Colorado Mountain College, and on a GPA of at least 3.0 each academic year. Award Amount. One award will be made per academic year; $2,375 for 100 and 200 level classes (Freshman, Sophomore) and $4,750 for 300 and 400 level classes (Junior, Senior), covering full tuition, 1

The award recipient must enroll for two out of three semesters of the year. MUST BE U.S. CITIZEN OR PERMANENT RESIDENT / ELIGIBLE NON-CITIZEN. A completed CMC application is required. Amico Winegar Scholarship Fund Arapahoe Basin Scholarship Beaver Run Resort Scholarship Applicant must be a full-time Frisco resident who will be attending a college or university full-time. The award will be based on academic achievement, need, chosen career/education path, and community involvement. In a few words (100 or less) please describe what it means to be a good Citizen in your home, school, and community. Applicants must be a student pursuing post secondary education. The award will be based on academic achievement, need, leadership, and community involvement. Applicants need to submit an essay including their grade point average, financial need, community service experience, and leadership abilities. Additionally, that essay should include their plans after high school and how living in Summit County has affected those plans. The essay cannot exceed one page. Preference will be given to employees or dependants of employees of Arapahoe Basin, but any Summit County resident is eligible to apply. Applicants must be a student pursuing post secondary education. Preference will be given to employees or dependents of employees of Beaver Run Resort but all Summit County Residents will be considered. Award(s) will be based on academic achievement, need, leadership, and community involvement. Applicants need to submit an essay limited to one page detailing school and community involvement and career goals. Bob Anderson Memorial Scholarship, Summit County Arts Exhibit Committee Brad Odekirk Memorial Scholarship Submit an essay of up to 500 words explaining your ambition in arts. List your experiences and/or exhibits in the arts (either inside or outside of school). Include 3 samples of your work (digital pictures or copies). Applicant must be planning to pursue studies in visual arts (photo/video) at an accredited post secondary, four year educational institution. Applicant must submit work example either still photography or video/multimedia- and a short essay about the importance of visual arts in communicating information. The scholarship will be awarded through The Summit Foundation and will follow The Summit Foundation s eligibility and use criteria. (See The Summit Foundation criteria listed in this packet for additional information.) 4 copies of the complete application are required. 2

3 Breckenridge Ambassadors Breckenridge Elementary PTSA and Student Body Scholarship Breckenridge Masonic Lodge #47 of CO Breckenridge Restaurant Association Brunvand Families Scholarship Buffalo Mountain Metropolitan District Scholarship Applicant must reside in Breckenridge or have parents who own a business (chamber member) in Breckenridge. Primary emphasis is placed on community service, however GPA and financial need are also considered. A personal essay is required (topic of your choice). Must have attended Breckenridge Elementary for 4 or more years. Must write an essay entitled How Breckenridge Elementary Made A Difference In My Life. Must be pursuing a college education at a 4 year institution. Applicant must demonstrate a strong history in community service and financial need. The student s GPA and test scores will be taken into consideration. Please include: a personal letter reflecting your community and school involvement; a copy of your FAFSA score; and/or the top page of the family s previous year s tax returns. An interview is also required. This scholarship is available for students attending either a four year college or vocational school and is limited to instate only. REQUEST ADDENDUM FOR FOUR YEAR SCHOLARSHIP Applicant must be a student pursuing a career in culinary arts, food service or hospitality OR a student who has a parent working in the food service industry. Numerous scholarships will be awarded. Student must provide a paragraph explaining his/her interest in this field, along with employment experience and recommendation from an employer OR a parent s food service employment history. Breckenridge residents will be considered first. Applicants must be a student pursuing a four year post secondary education. The award will be based on academic achievement, need, leadership, and community involvement. Although the scholarship is open to any Summit County resident, priority will be given to those students who have lived in Summit, supported the Summit community, and attended Summit Schools the longest. Applicants need to submit an essay not to exceed 500 words including their grade point average, financial need, community service experience, what makes them unique, and proving their leadership abilities. Additionally, that essay should include their plans after high school and how living in Summit County and attending Summit Schools has affected those plans. Preference will be given to students pursuing a four year degree in the fields of science or medicine, business, accounting, or education and detail whether your application in need or merit based. Applicants must be graduating seniors who have lived in Wildernest for at least two years immediately prior to graduation, maintained a minimum 2.5 GPA and plan to pursue a post-secondary education at an institution accredited, certified or recognized by the state where studies are to be completed. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service. The award will be paid directly to the educational institution to be applied to the recipient s tuition, fees and on-campus room and board. 3

Carlson, Carlson, & Dunkelman Carriage House Christopher Ethridge Memorial Scholarship- Red, White, and Blue Fire District Climax Molybdenum Company: Climax Mine and Henderson Mine and Mill Complete Family Eye Care Copper Mountain Ski Resort Applications must include a typewritten personal essay of not more than two double-spaced pages describing the applicant s scholastic achievements, participation in extracurricular activities, community service, and educational and career goals; an official high school transcript; two letters of recommendation from adult members of the community; proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency; and proof of physical address during the two years immediately preceding graduation. Applicant must demonstrate a dedication to the values of service to others, aid to the community, assistance to those with less opportunity and improvement of the community as a path to selfimprovement. A $500 scholarship will be awarded. An essay is required consisting of 2-3 pages on the importance of community service and volunteerism in American life. Applicants must have attended Carriage House /Breck kids. Essay: How has a nursery rhyme or childhood book/song been a theme for your life? $ Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA and be pursuing a fire science, engineering, communications, or education degree. A 12 hour ride-along with the Red, White and Blue Fire District is required. Two $500 awards will be given. An essay on: Red, White, and Blue s values are Courage, Commitment, Caring. Please explain what this means to you. The Colorado operations of Climax Molybdenum, a subsidiary of Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold supports annual scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each awarded to High School graduating seniors planning to continue their education at a College/University, Vocational or Trade school with priority to students entering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and/or mining related career paths. The award will be given to the recipient s High School, in their name, upon submission of proof of enrollment, to be used toward tuition and/or other direct expenses. Along with application please include a cover letter outlining your financial need, community involvement, whether your request is need-based or merit-based, along with a one page essay describing how modern mining affects your life. The competitive award will be based on career goals, academic record, extracurricular activities, community involvement, essay composition and financial need. REQUEST APPLICATION Applicant must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the health care field. The award will be based on academic record, extracurricular activities, community involvement and an essay. A one-time $500 award will be given to one applicant. A one-page essay summarizing the applicant s reasons for pursuing a career in the health care field is required. Maximum of two scholarships awarded each year to graduating seniors from Summit High School. Students must live/work or have a parent/guardian who lives/works at Copper Mountain Resort either presently or within the prior winter season. Other eligibility follows The Summit Foundation scholarship criteria. 3 copies of the complete application are required. 4

Tax Consulting I-Pad Scholarship Applicant must be a Dillon Valley elementary graduate and/or attended Dillon Valley Elementary for 2 or more years. Award based upon academic record, extracurricular involvement, and financial need. A personal letter is required which discusses your experience at DVE, including some advice to elementary students. Applicant must be a graduating senior. Preference will be given to a student planning to study any of the sciences, engineering, mathematics, or computer science. Student should have a GPA of 3.2 or above and show a need for financial support. Applicant must have a GPA, demonstrate financial need, and have participated in community service in high school. In addition, the student must attend a Colorado college or university and have career goals related to business. No income limit; interest in post secondary education; GPA of 2.5; volunteer over a period of time at a S.C. Library in excess of regular high school requirements. An essay on the vision of a 21 st Century library in Summit County. Applicant must be a resident of Frisco or surrounding area. Emphasis is placed on financial need, scholastic achievement, and future aspirations. A personal letter is appreciated. Applicant must be a Frisco Elementary graduate pursuing a higher education. Must demonstrate community service and extra curricular activities. Requirements include a personal essay and two letters of recommendation. Applicant must have attended FRE for at least 2 years and graduated from Frisco Elementary. Applicant must be attending post-secondary education after high school graduation. Financial need considered. Provide a list of extra-curricular activities and a letter of recommendation by either a teacher or coach. Business student, minimum GPA of 2.5, graduating senior, active in outdoor activities; no community service requirement or income limitations; merit based. KEY Requirements: Student must write an interesting and compelling reason why they are the best candidate (any reason they deem worthy) and parents must complete an addendum on their involvement in their students education. REQUEST ADDENDUM High Country Healthcare/Vail Summit Orthopaedics This scholarship is for students attending a college or university in a Healthcare/Medical field of study, preferably Medical School. This scholarship is not for Veterinary Studies. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate good citizenship in the community and at school. Two scholarships will be awarded. Scholarships will be based on academic achievement and financial need, as well as desire for field of study. Applicant must provide a one-page essay related to why you want to pursue 5

High Country Unitarian Universalist Scholarship Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology Science Scholarship Lake Dillon Theatre Company s Scholarship this field of study and why you are deserving of the scholarship. Applicant must provide two letters of recommendation: 1 from a Teacher, 1 from a Community Member. This Scholarship is only for students who are the first generation in their family to attend college. The student may or may not have had scholastic difficulties their first two years in high school, but she/he must have passing grades the last two years. Financial need is an important consideration. The application must be accompanied by an essay addressing high school, family, one s strengths and weaknesses, college plans and goals. Applicant must be a graduating senior of Summit High School planning to major in a natural science at a 2 or 4 year college or university. Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants. Applicants must demonstrate the following criteria: 1. Proven achievement in high school science (based on high school science grades and science teacher recommendation); 2. Strong interest in biology or other natural sciences (as demonstrated by a 500-1,000 word essay). Essay must include an explanation of how the student became interested in science, why the student is pursuing higher-level science and the financial need for this award. Scholarship money will be paid directly to the college or university the student attends, must be used for tuition expenses and can be deferred up to a maximum of one year if the student s plans change. This scholarship is * merit based * with attention paid to the need of the student. This scholarship will be awarded to a student in the Summit County School system or home school program. The student must major/minor in a Performing Arts field in College. Interested students will need to: 1. Fill out Lake Dillon Theater Company application. 2. Write a Two page essay on how the arts have influenced their life. a. Including how you intend to use the arts in your future. 3. Write short answer (two paragraphs each) to the following questions: a. Name one important experience in you life. How has it affected you? What have you learned because of it? b. What civic duties and extracurricular activities have you participated in during your high school tenure? What drives you to be involved? How have you benefited. c. What is the greatest gift you have ever received and why? 4. Provide two letters of recommendation. 5. Provide a performance Resume. REQUEST APPLICATION Laura Helen Foote Memorial Scholarship The applicant must be a graduating Senior enrolled in a program offered in the CTE Wing, who is pursuing a career in Video Arts, Health Sciences, or Culinary Arts. The recipient must show acceptance at an accredited school of higher education, Community College, or a four year College or University. 6

Lucia Ritchey Memorial Scholarship Marla Starekow Fashion Design Scholarship The student must provide a one page essay explaining his/her interest in this field along with a recommendation from an employer, teacher, or counselor. $500 will be awarded. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has been involved in athletics during their high school years and demonstrates financial need, household income under $75,000. A personal essay is required. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of Summit High School interested in pursuing studies in the field of fashion design at an accredited post-secondary, two or four-year educational institution or an accredited technical/vocational training institution (fashion design school) that offers a degree in the field of fashion design. Scholarship funds may be used to cover tuition, fees and on-campus room and board cost only. Books, computers, individual school requirements, transportation, personal expenses and other miscellaneous costs are not eligible for scholarship support. Scholarship awards are sent directly to the educational institution. The scholarship will be awarded through The Summit Foundation and will follow The Summit Foundation s eligibility and use criteria. An essay/letter outlining why the student wants to pursue studies in fashion design, his/her goals, and why he/she is deserving of the award is required. No more than one page in length. 1 copy of the complete application is required in addition to a copy (word doc) ed to: bob@silverheelsrestaurant.com Moniker Foundation Scholarship Applicants must be Colorado HS seniors who plan to attend college in Colorado. Applicants must demonstrate community service, extracurricular activities (which may include job experience) and financial need with household income under $75,000. Requirements in include: 1. Complete application package (incomplete packages will not be reviewed). 2. Most recent transcript. 3. Three (3) letters of recommendation (must be dated and within 6 months). 4. Personal essay. The personal essay should be 1-2 pages, double spaced, and shall be in two parts: Part 1: Describe your goals, your plan to achieve these goals, how you will monitor your progress, and where you see yourself in 4 years. Part 2: Describe how you plan to get and stay involved in the community where you go to college. Personal interviews may be conducted at the option of the Foundation. 7

8 Nancy Ring Memorial Scholarship for the Performing Arts NRC Broadcasting Scholarships Graduating senior from Summit High School; minimum GPA of 3.0; must be majoring in music or performing arts; show financial need, and community service. An essay stating reasons for field of study is required. Finalists may be contacted to schedule an audition. Any of the NRC Broadcasting Scholarships applied for must include: A One Page essay, outlining community service/commitment to the community and why you are pursuing your chosen field of study. KSMT Communications Scholarship $3000 scholarship will be awarded to graduating Summit High School senior who plans to pursue a degree in Broadcast Communications. Applicant MUST exhibit strong commitment to community and community service. Financial need and academic achievement also considered. Applicant must write an essay (1 page) stating why they are interested in a career in Broadcasting and how they have pursued this interest. KSMT IT/Vocational Scholarship Scholarship of $2500 will be awarded to a graduating senior, pursuing additional education at a NON-4 Year University such as a Technical School, Community, Junior College or vocational school. Student MUST have a strong community commitment and have specific examples of community service done while in high school. One page essay must accompany the application stating what career the student plans on pursuing and why and how their field of study fits with their commitment to our community. Pediatric Dental Group of CO, S.C. Office PEO Scholarship Resort Quest Applicant must have a 3.0 grade point average and be going into a health based field at the college/university level. An essay telling why they have chosen an education in the health field is required. This is a merit based award. Community involvement is a plus, but not required. This is a one time $500 award. This scholarship is for women students who have been a resident of Summit County for at least two years, are full time college bound, have a GPA of 3.o or better, and active in extra curricular activities. Academics and financial need are considered. Scholarship must be used within the academic year following the award. An essay is required (topic of your choice). Please provide five (5) copies of complete application package. Applicant must be a graduating senior. One $500 will be awarded. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a degree in the hospitality industry at a 2 or 4-year college / university or at an accredited postsecondary technical / vocational training institution. Student should have a 3.2 GPA or above and show a need for financial support. Please include a one page essay or letter outlining why the student wants to pursue studies in lodging / hospitality, his or her goals and why he or she is deserving of the award. 8

Teacher Education Scholarship Summit County Elks Lodge #2561 Summit County Garden Club Scholarship Applicant must have attended Silverthorne Elementary for four years or more. Student should have a serious goal and clear purpose for the future, as well as demonstrate a financial need. A personal letter is required which includes future goals. A total of $8,000 will be awarded in multiple scholarships to SHS graduating seniors. Applicants will be judged on a combination of grades, consistency, need, ambition, and community involvement. Children of REALTORS, as well as students with an interest in a real estate career or experience working in a real estate office, may apply, but will be given no special consideration. Applicants must be a vocal music student residing in Summit County. Please include four (4) copies of the following with your application: a piece of music that suits your voice for audition; and a personal letter which should have a theme (what music means to me, how music affects my life, etc.) and must briefly answer why you think you should win the scholarship award. In addition to the application, candidates will be required to audition for the award. Applicant must be a SHS graduate pursuing a construction related education at a 2 or 4 year college or trade school (i.e. construction management, plumbing, electrical, welding, etc.) An Essay is required. NO late applications will be accepted. Applicant must be a graduating senior from SHS, and planning on majoring in Education at the college or university level. Acceptance and enrollment in Education and/or a Teacher Preparation program is preferred. Please submit the following: Two letters of recommendation, one from a HS official and one from a personal contact and a brief essay (250 words or less) on Why I Am Pursuing a Career in Education. Applications must be completed by the applicant only, and incomplete applications will not be accepted. Two $500 scholarships available locally. Made possible by the Colorado Elks Association through the Elks National Foundation. Qualified applicants will be selected by your local lodge, from the Summit County Elks Lodge jurisdiction, based on Community Involvement, scholarship and need. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of Summit High School interested in pursuing studies in the fields of plants and plant life, horticulture, botany, farming or landscape design at an accredited post-secondary, four-year educational institution, preferably in Colorado. Scholarship funds may be used to cover tuition, fees and on-campus room and board cost only. Books, computers, individual school requirements, transportation, personal expenses and other miscellaneous costs are not eligible for scholarship support. Scholarship awards are sent directly to the educational institution. The scholarship will be awarded through The Summit Foundation and will follow The Summit Foundation s eligibility and use criteria. 9

Summit County Chapter of the Colorado Restaurant Association Scholarship Summit County Rotary Summit County Sheriff s Office Citizenship Award Summit County USBC Bowling Association An essay/letter outlining why the student wants to pursue studies in this field, his/her goals, and why he/she is deserving of the award is required. No more than one page in length. Please submit 4 copies of your application packet. Applicant must be a student pursuing a career in culinary arts, food service, or hospitality OR a student who has a parent working in the food service industry. Student must provide a paragraph explaining his/her interest in this field, along with employment experience and recommendation from an employer OR a parent s food service employment history. Scholarships are need and merit based. Applications must be completed by the applicant. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. $6,000 will be distributed. Enrollment plans for a Colorado accredited culinary school will be highly considered. Minimum GPA 2.5/ copies of the complete application are required. Scholarship Description and Requirements: The applicant must be a graduating senior from Summit High School. The Scholarship selection will be administered by the Summit Foundation and will follow the Summit Foundation s Eligibility and Use Criteria. Additionally some scholarships may require the applicant to qualify as an In District Student and attend the CMC Summit campus or have participated in Rotary s Interact Club or Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program and planning on attending a public college or university within the State of Colorado. 15 copies of the complete application are required. Applicant must be a Summit County resident and have applied to a college/university, vocational/trade school in Colorado, full or part-time. Qualifying criteria includes a high ethical standard, outstanding citizenship, exemplary role modeling for his/her peers or young children, notable public service, display of individual courage or fortitude in the face of adversity or peer pressure to act otherwise, or character development. Academic success is not the sole deciding factor. Letters of reference should demonstrate above listed traits. - Must be a graduating Senior at Summit High School - Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (out of 4.0) - Have a relative that is currently, or was a Member of the Summit County USBC Bowling Association within the past five (5) years Summit County Youth Hockey Must be a current Summit Hockey member and a current Summit High School student earning a 3.0 GPA or higher. An essay is required. REQUEST ESSAY ADDENDUM. Summit Cove Elementary PTSA Applicant must be a Summit Cove Elementary graduate pursuing a higher education at a 2-4 year institute. A well written essay is required, outlining how Summit Cove shaped your life. Must be 1,000 words or less, typed. Student s transcripts and financial circumstances will be taken into consideration, as well as extracurricular activities and community involvement. 10

11 Summit Daily News Summit Education Foundation Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and a strong interest in one of the following areas: journalism, creative writing and/or graphic design; plus an interest in pursuing a career in journalism/media. Applicant must have had participation in the student newspaper, Tiger Tracks, or in the SHS Yearbook. While the scholarship is largely merit based, preference will be given to students who show a genuine financial need to attend college. Two $1,000 scholarships will be provided. An essay/letter outlining personal qualifications, educational goals and why they seek a career in media is required. The Summit Education Foundation Scholarship is open to all graduating seniors of SHS. Applicant must be pursuing a post-secondary education at a 2 or 4 year college/university or at an accredited post secondary technical/vocational institute. Applicants should submit a one-paragraph essay or short video on how they have used creative thinking/problem-solving, or science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) to advance their learning and education at SHS. They should also submit an essay from one of their college applications. Awards will be need based. We are expecting to award 5 new full-sized ipads with additional funds to pay for apps, books, etc. The Summit Foundation The Summit Foundation annually awards approximately 50 scholarships to Summit High School graduating seniors. Applicants must be pursuing post-secondary education at 2 or 4-year colleges/universities, or at accredited post-secondary technical/vocational training institutions. The student must submit a one page personal letter setting forth the reasons for their scholarship application and their goals for the future as well as other required attachments. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence and need. The Summit Foundation has an eligibility requirement of a 2.75 minimum GPA, unless there are extenuating circumstances. One scholarship may be awarded to a qualified senior girl pursuing studies in engineering at an accredited 4-year post-secondary institution. One scholarship may be awarded to a qualified senior pursing study toward a degree in Business. One scholarship may be awarded to a qualified senior who participated in organized sports activities during their high school career. One scholarship may be awarded to a qualified senior pursing studies in a trade such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC technician, medical technologist, beautician or other trade field through and accredited technical/vocational training institution that offer training in the above mentioned or other trade majors. Special scholarships may be awarded to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in one of the 11

12 The Summit Foundation cont d. following areas: education (teaching) in core academic subjects special education computer science engineering other scientific fields, including without limitation mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology One 4-year scholarship will be awarded; a personal interview is an additional requirement during the selection process. All applications must include a copy of your high school transcript, including grades through Fall 2012 semester. Also required are three letters of recommendation. Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, as well as, extracurricular and community involvement. Financial need is also considered. If annual family AGI is $150,000 or higher, student must be in the top 5% of the class in order to be eligible to apply to the foundation. Student must also submit one copy of the first two pages of the family s most recent tax return. Scholarship funds may be used to cover tuition, fees and on-campus room and board cost only. Books, computers, individual school requirements, transportation, personal expenses and other miscellaneous costs are not eligible for scholarship support. Scholarship awards are sent directly to the educational institution. Please submit 15 copies of your application. Note: Summit County Government also contributes funds for scholarships, which are determined by The Summit Foundation. Summit Girls Rugby Scholarship Summit High School Leadership Scholarship Summit High School PTSO Scholarship This scholarship is available to a Summit High School Rugby player who is interested in continuing playing in college. The scholarship is based on representing the program (academic effort, community involvement, exhibits sportsmanship and serves as role model in the sport) and a desire to play college rugby. Application, a letter of reference and an essay describing your college rugby plans and goals, and how rugby plays a role in your life are required. Applicant must have been in SHS Leadership for one year and have a 2.5 GPA (80% minimal GPA). An essay is required on As a student leader, how have you made a difference at Summit High School? (Responses should be between words). This scholarship is open to all graduating seniors of SHS. Applicant must be pursuing a post-secondary education at a 2 or 4 yr. college/university, or at an accredited post secondary technical/vocational institute. GPA and test scores must be consistent with educational goals. A personal letter stating your motivation to pursue a healthcare career is required; one page in length is preferred. One scholarship will be awarded. Provide 4 copies (double sided) of complete application package. Applicant must have attended SMS for three years and be a SHS graduating senior. Award will be based on academic record, extracurricular involvement, student involvement helping the youth of our community, and financial need. Please include in your intro/cover letter how you grew from the experiences helping our youth in the community. Refer to the Tiger Trot scholarship evaluation rubric for more specific information. A $500 scholarship will be awarded. Provide 4 copies of complete application package. REQUEST ADDENDUM This is a merit scholarship for community service. We are looking for qualified candidates who have shown individual, sustained initiative in the Summit County community. While these activities may start in the school as an individual or class endeavor, Synagogue of the Summit is looking for candidates who have committed him/herself to projects outside of the school. An essay is required on the following topic: Please discuss your efforts to make the world a better place. For purposes of your response, the word "world" includes, but is not limited to, your school, family, town, ethnic or religious group, and other community. Focus in your response on your personal motivation, describe the actions in which you participated, and discuss the improvements you seek or have accomplished. How have both you and the "world" changed as the result of your actions? Please limit your response to no more than 300 words. 13

14 Three Peaks Scholarship Town of Breckenridge Scholarships will be awarded to several graduating seniors who have achieved academic excellence, demonstrated financial need, and have been involved in and supportive of their communities. Preference may also be given to those seeking degrees in business, as well as the following rigorous areas of study: Computer science Engineering Other scientific fields, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Successful applicants may also be eligible for additional awards in subsequent years based on demonstrated success in the pursuit of their higher education. Applicant must reside in the Upper Blue Basin (Farmer s Corner to top of Hoosier Pass), must plan to attend a college/university or accredited post-secondary technical/vocational training school; will strongly consider funding for applicant to attend Colorado Mountain College (Summit campus). Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate good citizenship within the community and at school. Scholarships are based on academic achievement and financial need as well as evidence of good citizenship. Scholarship awards are sent directly to the educational institution towards tuition. Proof of physical address, family income range, identification, and signed affidavit must be provided. Essay and reference letters required. REQUEST ADDENDUM Town of Dillon Applicant must be a graduating senior who resides in the Dillon area: Town of Dillon, Dillon Valley or Summit Cove. Student must plan to attend a jr. college/college/university, tech or trade school. The student s GPA and test scores will be taken into consideration, as well as demonstration of good citizenship within the community and at school. The scholarship will be given to the recipient upon presentation of receipt from his/her chosen educational institution, to be used toward tuition or other expenses. Physical address is required. For 2013, scholarship will be for $1,000 and the Town of Dillon will determine if it will be distributed to one student for $1,000 or two students for $500 each. Town of Frisco Schmidt Scholarship(s), Town of Silverthorne Graduating senior must live in the Town of Frisco, including Evergreen, Bill s Ranch, Frisco Heights and Frisco Terrace. Applicants must plan to attend a college, junior college, university, technical school or trade school. Physical address, 2 letters of recommendation, certification of admissibility of the school, student s transcript and test scores, and essay is required. Applicant must be a graduating senior who lives in the Town of Silverthorne. (This does not include Ptarmigan, Wildernest, Mesa Cortina and certain other developments.) Two types of scholarship are available: 1) Scholastic Scholarship is available to a student attending any institution accredited by the state 14

GPA requirement is 2.75 or better, depending on circumstances and number of applications. Student must demonstrate good citizenship, participation in school and community programs, and the ability to succeed. Proof of physical address is required. 2) Trade/Technical School Scholarship is available to assist students in the pursuit of activities not commonly thought of as scholastic, i.e. auto mechanic, electronic repair, cosmetology/barber school, paralegal, court stenographer, medical/dental assistant, etc. Courses must be at a certified, registered or recognized institution endorsed by the state where studies are completed. Must use one year from date of award. Student must have a 2.0 or better GPA or be passing with a C. Student must also demonstrate good citizenship, activity in school and community programs, and a proficiency for and ability to succeed in his/her chosen field. Proof of physical address is required.
