1 QUINCY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Scholarship update April 2015 The Q.H.S. Guidance Office will actively compile and update this listing of scholarships. What Are Scholarships? Scholarships are free money that is available to reduce the out-ofpocket cost of school. Students have to apply for scholarships, which are awarded on a case-bycase basis, often based on merit/achievement. If a student receives a scholarship, it does not have to be paid back. What Do You Need to Have to Qualify for a Scholarship? Every scholarship has varying requirements including its own application, which you will need to get and complete but it is a good idea to pull together a folder of the following information (or as much of it as you can), as almost all scholarships will ask for some combination of the following: Essay(s) Letter(s) of reference Writing sample Résumé Transcript of Grades Copy of Student Aid Report Parent and Student Tax Returns and W-2 Forms GPA Certification Form Enrollment Verification Form Copy of Financial Aid Award Letter Beware of Scholarship Scams Be cautious of scholarship applications that require an application fee. Also proceed with caution with scholarship matching services that promise results and sales pitches that describe themselves as financial aid workshops or seminars. Customize your scholarship search! Deadline: August 13, My Mentor Was Me Scholarship Video Challenge The My Mentor Was Me Scholarship Video Challenge is open to high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree at an accredited university in the U.S. You must create a one to three minute video identifying and describing the impact a mentor has had on your pursuit of success and the importance of mentor-mentee relationships. You must then upload the video to the sponsor s website in order to qualify for this award. Deadline: July 31, Delete Cyberbullying Scholarship Award The Delete Cyberbullying Scholarship is available to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. To be considered, you must submit a maximum word essay on one of the following topics: "Why is it important to work to delete cyberbullying?" or "How has cyberbullying personally affected you?" Selection is based on the written essay and focus on commitment to the cause of deleting cyberbullying. Deadline: June 30, WyzAnt College Scholarship The WyzAnt College Scholarship is available to students who plan to be enrolled in a four - Year College or university sometime between August 1, 2015 and November 1, To be considered, you must submit a word essay about how your education has empowered you. Deadline: May 1, CKSF Scholarship Competition The CKSF Scholarships are available to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in the U.S. You must register to participate in scholarship quizzes that test your knowledge of topics ranging from general "common knowledge" to specific academic subjects, books, websites, and even movies. 5 2015 Student-View Scholarship Program The 2015 Student - View Scholarship Program is offering $11,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior College or career school. 7 To be eligible for the Lifestyle Dentistry Scholarship a student must: a.) Be attending college or university no later than September 30 th, Current High School Seniors who will graduate in 2015 are eligible. You can be enrolled in any field of study. b.) Submit answers to the essay question, which can be found on the application page, prior to the June 30 th 2015 deadline. c.) Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater. Applications can be found by going to: J.L. Wade Foundation Scholarship ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP The J.L. Wade Foundation Scholarship is a one y ear scholarship administered by the J.L. Wade Foundation. The Scholarship, awarded in memory of J.L. Wade, is designed to assist and encourage talented high school graduates residing in Illinois counties of Pike, Calhoun, Scott, Greene, and Adams who need such assistance to obtain the benefits of a college education. The recipient of the scholarship will receive Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to assist with the cost of tuition at a college or university. The scholarship will be paid directly to the college or university selected by the recipient. Students who are awarded the scholarship may apply, by providing an updated scholarship application, to renew the scholarship annually for undergraduate studies for three (3) consecutive years. The renewal of the scholarship, as with the initial scholarship, is dependent upon the recipient complying with scholarship guidelines and the availability of funding. There is not any guaranty of a renewal. An application for a renewal of the scholarship will be considered along with all other scholarship applications. PAYMENT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP Applications will be accepted through May 8, 2015 for the $5, J.L. Wade Foundation Scholarship. The J.L. Wade Foundation will pay $5, to the undergraduate college or university the recipient is attending for the school year beginning in August or September, APPLICATION PROCESS An applicant must be accepted to attend an undergraduate college or university for the fall semester begging in August or September, 2015 and must have permanent residence in a county served by the J.L. Wade Foundation. Students having permanent residence in Pike, Calhoun, Scott, Greene, or Adams County, Illinois are eligible to apply. The $ scholarship will be awarded and paid to the recipient s college or university prior to the commencement of the fall semester. In selecting the scholarship recipient(s) each year, the following shall be relevant factors:

8 The academic record of the applicant, evidenced by the applicant s grades and test scores; Recommendations of applicant s principals, teachers, professors or guidance counselors; Extra curricular activities in which the applicant participated; and An evaluation of the character and motivation of the applicant based on personal interviews of the applicants may be considered at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee. Additionally, special consideration will be given to otherwise qualified applicants who elect to pursue a degree in natural science and/or reside in Pike County, Illinois. GetApp Scholarship Other than as set forth above, there are no criteria or limitations with respect to the scholarships awarded. Scholarship awards are made on an objective, nondiscriminatory basis. The GetApp Scholarship is available to high school seniors who have been accepted to an accredited university and currently enrolled undergraduate students. You must submit an essay of no more than 500 words that answers one of the questions posed on the sponsor's website about how you can improve our already high tech world in order to qualify for this award. Applicants must also submit high school transcript and letter of recommendation. Scholarship Information: Award Amount: $3,000 Deadline: April 30, 2015 Back2School Illinois Scholarship Program The Back to School Illinois Scholarship Program is open to college bound high school seniors residing in Illinois. You must demonstrate leadership ability and academic achievement to be considered for this award. Applicants must be involved in community service. Some schools offer basic merit scholarships, scholarships for specific majors, and audition or portfolio based scholarships. John Wood Community College When applying for an academic talent waiver, leadership, talent waiver or a JWCC foundation scholarship you must be accepted to John Wood and have your FAFSA filed. Applications become available on January 1, To learn more visit for more information. Vatterott College Vatterott offers 2 scholarships for High School Students when they enroll for classes. The High School Presidential Scholarship is a tuition remission scholarship I the amount of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), which will be applied to the scholarship winner s student account upon enrolling at Vatterott College. The scholarship, which will be disbursed in the form of a tuition credit, is nontransferable and carries no cash value. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must have graduated from an accredited high school in the previous twelve (12) months, prior to enrollment. Vatterott College offers the Make-the-Grade Scholarship to any high school graduate who enrolls at Vatterott College within one year of high school graduation.
