5 Why go for a (relevant) student job? It s a unique way to learn about yourself in a workrelated context A valuable network Relevant experience. 6 How did other graduates get their first job? In a recent study, showing how graduated members of Djøf got their first job, the key points were: 7 out of 10 had experience from a relevant student job The graduates themselves indicated that a relevant student job was a determining factor in landing the first job, in addition to the impression they made at the job interview, their competencies etc. 87% had experience from a relevant - or other kind of - student job before they applied for their first full time job 15. september 2015 Klik og skriv titel på præsentation og evt. navn 6
7 What are the overall competences needed in a student job? We have made it easy for you and gathered the relevant and overall competences that companies often look for in a student assistant: The 4 headlines are: IT Analysis Communication Administration 15. september 2015 Vejen til dit første studiejob 7
8 When working with IT You are a part of the generation that have grown up with technology and adapted to it, learning about it quicker than any other generation. Companies look for students to help them solve different tasks related to IT and the likes: Often the tasks include: Maintenance of website or intranet pages Create/support with (PowerPoint, Prezi) presentations Update their company profile on different Social Media sites Excel data/analysis/budgets. And?????
9 When working with analysis Across most study programmes analysis is a skill you practise and strengthen on a daily basis. Companies look for students who are able to: Collect and structure data and information Develop and work on e.g. market and economic analyses Preparation of political analyses / policy material Preparation and assessments of written material And???
10 When working with communication It s not a prerequisite that you study communication it s important however that you are skilled and able to communicate with ease and in a professional manner. Companies look for students who are able to: Prepare PowerPoint presentations Take notes at meetings Communicate with customers Update the company profile on social media platforms Write catchy and professional texts for newsletters or marketing material And???
11 When working with administration As a student worker you will often be asked to solve administrative tasks. These may vary in difficulty and character. Often these tasks can be stepping stones to more difficult or project-based tasks. It depends how well you present your skills and how you do your job. Be creative, innovative and curious! Maybe you can. Create a more effective way of archiving material Write (or optimise) an operational manual on how to register data Optimise work processes Take care of more practical tasks such as booking meetings, write meeting agendas, take notes, make coffee (!) And???
12 Make a good profile in the job Flexibility and a student job goes hand in hand. This means that your task portfolio sometimes also includes: Making copies Preparation of meetings other practical tasks Remember that these tasks need to be done, too! and if you do a good job, you will often get different and more difficult tasks along the way 15. september 2015 Klik og skriv titel på præsentation og evt. navn 12

14 What characterises a good resume/cv? A neat and tidy layout! Visibly clear sections and paragraphs Reverse chronological order starting with your most recent accomplishment/experience Include a professional profile in the beginning of the document to set the scene on your skills and the match FACTS Most recruiters read the CV first. Therefore, your CV should be targeted the company/job you apply for. Make sure your CV gives the company an idea of how you can contribute in the position. 15 What characterises a good cover letter? A good and well-written cover letter should be: Motivated and targeted both the company AND the job/tasks! Written in a forward manner show them what they will get with you on-board their team!
