GRANT SUPPORT 1K01DA (PI: Aston) 5/1/2015-4/30/2020 NIDA Behavioral Economic Analysis of Demand for Marijuana This proposal aims to examine the relative value of or demand for marijuana and the relationship between drug value and craving. This project will further develop a marijuana purchase task (MPT) measure via qualitative methods. The modified MPT measure will be validated via administration of the measure to marijuana users with diverse use patterns. Ultimately, hypothetical responses on the MPT will be compared to performance for actual marijuana rewards in the laboratory. Role: Principal Investigator Direct Costs: $167,112 PENDING GRANTS R01AA (PI: Metrik) NIDA/NIAAA Marijuana's Impact on Alcohol Motivation and Consumption This project includes two complementary human marijuana administration studies to investigate how marijuana, alone or in combination with initial drinking, affects alcohol motivation and consumption. The longterm objective of this research is to help determine whether smoking marijuana alone or when combined with alcohol places individuals at greater risk for heavy drinking and ultimately alcohol dependence. Role: Co-Investigator Direct Costs: $396,398 COMPLETED GRANTS 2 T32 AA (PI: Monti) 6/30/2013-5/31/2015 NIAAA Alcohol Intervention/Treatment Outcome Research Training This NIAAA-funded T32 postdoctoral training grant prepares behavioral, social, health care, and medical scientists to conduct high quality research in early intervention and treatment of alcohol abuse and dependence. The training program focuses on the development and implementation of on-site research under the supervision of trainee-selected faculty mentors. Role: Postdoctoral Fellow Direct Costs: $587,554 5 T32 AA (McCool) 8/15/ /14/2012 NIAAA Aston 5

6 Multidisciplinary Training in the Biology of Addiction This NIAAA-funded T32 predoctoral training program consists of rigorous didactic work and intensive laboratory-based research experiences. Role: Predoctoral Trainee Direct Costs: $385,546 UNIVERSITY TEACHING ROLES Lecturer, Health Education Sessions, Butler Hospital, Project FREE Smoking Cessation Study, Spring 2014 Spring Lecture weekly on health education topics (e.g., heart disease, nutrition, reproductive health) to subjects in an ongoing smoking cessation study. Lecturer, Psychology of Criminal Behavior, Brown University program, Summer Developed and taught two-week summer course on criminal behavior and psychology. Workshop Director, Drug Abuse Workshop, Winston-Salem State Physical Therapy DPT program, Spring Recruited and coordinated qualified lecturers in areas of drug abuse. Guest Lecturer, Drug Abuse Workshop, Winston-Salem State Physical Therapy DPT program, Spring Alcohol abuse and dependence. Guest Lecturer, Physiology Block, Winston-Salem State Physical Therapy DPT program, Summer Neuronal components, action potentials, and synaptic transmission. Guest Lecturer, Pharmacology Block, Winston-Salem State Physical Therapy DPT program, Spring Sedative hypnotics, anti-anxiety drugs, and treating depression and bipolar disorders. Guest Lecturer, Physiology Block, Winston-Salem State Physical Therapy DPT program, Summer Autonomic nervous system, neuronal components, action potentials, and synaptic transmission. Assistant Simulation Lab Facilitator, Physiology Block, Winston-Salem State Physical Therapy DPT program, Summer The simulation targeted the use of METI human patient simulator mannequins. Mannequins were programmed to display symptoms of Autonomic Dysreflexia. Students were led through a scenario in which they learned/practiced correctly diagnose and treat the symptomology present. Brain Awareness Educator, Neuroscience Program, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Spring 2011 Spring Education on drugs of abuse, human brains, comparative animal brains, and psychiatry to local students grades K-12.
